Micheal Bishop was NEVER given a chance. If your not a 6'4 white slow drop back passer that cant convert 3rd downs the nfl doesnt want you. Jake Delhomey is the best qb in the leauge and he was only given a chance because Weinke and Peete were hurt.

biggest college hoop disappointment was another Mater Dei player named Tom Lewis. Tom Lewis went for 30 pts a game and won 100 straight games, and then he went to 3 diffrent colleges and avraged 4 points a game.

Best Baseball player that never made it was a pitcher I played with in college his name was Chris Shifflett he threw 95 mph and had a better slider than Carolton. He hurt his back and never made it out of A ball.

Hensley Bam Bam Meulens was a huge prospect for my Yanks,he couldn't hit a curve ball to save his life

Dan Pasqua had a killer swing, but never produced

Now I pray Teixeira, Baldelli + Blalock don't fold as I am buying as many of their E-Topps cards as possible

MLB - Todd Van Poppel and Brien Taylor are by far the biggest busts in the last 15 years.

NFL - Blair Thomas

NBA - I would have to go with Christian Laetner. He was incredible in college and even played on the Dream Team, and has been nowhere near what I expected in the NBA.

General- I really don't think Bailey turned out to be a lemon, he was pretty much a stud. Yeah he didnt have an NBA career, and he would have never been a star in the NBA, but his knees prevented him from ever having a chance.

7th leading scorer at IU

#7. Damon Bailey - 1,741 career points

Year FG FGA PCT FT FTA PCT TP AVG
1990-91 126 249 .506 90 130 .692 375 11.4
1991-92 143 288 .497 88 115 .765 422 12.4
1992-93 117 255 .459 83 114 .728 355 10.1
1993-94 188 391 .481 166 207 .802 589 19.6
Career 574 1183 .485 427 566 .754 1741 13.2
Career 3-point field goals: 166-380 (.437)

91-92 he played point on a final 4 team, 92-93 he played point on probably what was the best IU team since 76. If Henderson doesn't tear his ACL, they win it all.

He was also 3rd in career assists, 9th in career steals, 20th in career rebounds(only guard on the list)

I don't know maybe you were talking more about his NBA career? But at IU I think he had super unrealistic high expectations from some people, but I think he turned out to be as good as advertised.

Bailey's knee injuries were resulted from playing too much AAU ball and playing on the pavement as a youngster. That's why the Pacers paid for his knee surgeries before he nevers wear the the Pacers uniform. I used to went to some of the Fury games while he's playing in the CBA.

Ironically, another Hoosier schoolboy hero named Rick Mount is an another one got drafted by the Pacers in the old ABA. His professional career was cut short due to the criticism from Bobby Leonard for not being a team player since he never plays defense.

***GREAT ONE - how could i miss this one. lewis was like a "lebron james" here in so cal. he was THE stud ballplayer and could have gone to ANY college he wanted to attend. i know usc and pepperidge farm were 2 of them - i forget the 3rd. he, unfortunately, got under the supervision of pat barrett - a true snake if there ever was one. one day i saw lewis working out at the same health club as me (los cab - railbird) lifting weights. standing next to him was barrett. i wanted to ask barrett, "when he shits - do you wipe his ass?" but didn't. lewis is now coaching at some HS in South OC - i forget which one - but i know he got into some hot water already.

and speaking of mater dei - what a GREAT day it was tuesday - inglewood spanked MD in the CIF Semis. ANYTIME mater dei loses it is a GREAT day. they are the NY Yankees of So Cal - you wither love them or hate them - NOTHING in between. like the yankees - most hate them. part of the problem is the payroll for mater dei athletes is only slightly less then that of the yankees.

In recent years its got to be Josh Hamilton. Overall #1 draft pick of the Devil Rays in 1999. He was chosen ahead of Josh Beckett. Wore a can't miss label and signed for 4 million. The outfield should by now have Crawford in left, Baldelli in center, and Hamilton in right.

Though he has been plagued by injuries, Hamilton missed the entire 2003 season due to what has now been identified as a drug problem. He hid it however, refusing to face up to it.

Currently he is suspended by Major League Baseball for drug violations because he is on the 40 man roster. A one time all-American boy, Josh has played only 215 games. And only a handful of those have been as high as the AA level. All the rest were in single A or the rookie leagues. Has a .295 BA.

Josh has hit 33 home runs since turning pro in 1999 and that at least is 7 more than the total number of tattoos he has added to his body since turning pro. No judgement implied there as I have 2 myself but kinda wondering where the boys' heads been at.

Still has a long shot chance, but it looks like all the God given tools may just have been totally wasted. I've seen it before, but this is an extreme case.

Didn't Brien Taylor turn out to be a dud because of arm injuries though.
