ha!! MASSIVE fan base. Going to be like 20% leaf fans in TB's building , haha...that series is going to be awesome. Cringe at the goalie match-up

How about the year Mikheyev and Engval have had? talk about caterpillar into buttefly , geez.

Giordano has had a calming influence at the back, Liljegren has benefited bigly . End of the day, no one wins Lord Stanley with weak goaltending= Campbell? gotta be competent . Gotta give fuckin credit to Dubas : Giordano. Lyubushkin (better than the alternative), Bunting, Kampf, Kase. Worked around that salary cap smartly, cant believe the intra-season growth in Bunting (need him back).

But the big question is goaltending-- all in with Campbell, as Dubas was a yr ago.

if the Leafs lose in round 1 is Dubas done? or does Keefe take the fall?

I think Brisbois is ahead of the class . What could have been for Hab fans , yikes . Maybe in time he heads home

Tougher to form a dynasty now than 30 yrs ago . In fact the system is set up to prevent dynasties . Can they win another ? We shall see !!

Point /kucherov/Stamkos -- so much offense goes through those 3 . Can they produce yet again? They r healthy ,ready to go and added two pieces late ,kudos to brisbois (two 1st rounders for hagel ?, Brisbois gnf,- wanted and got his man

Fuck Yeah!!! That was a brilliant move by Matthews when he left the zone and came back and beat Saigun and the D

Matthews is on another level every game. I won't be surprised if he nets 60+
On another level, but can't produce when it counts - ever. Same with the other divas.

The hockey gods even threw you a bone when Point got hurt, but the Best Player In The Game couldn't put his team on his back and propel them into the next round like McDavid did.

"We gotta grab the game by the balls" Matthews after their game 6 choke

Enjoy those awesome 8-3 Leaf blowouts next October. Nobody cares.

a bit harsh Joe. the series was a flip a coin.

Game 6 was a choke? TB got very fortunate with a two-man advantage to tie with about 10 min left. Kerfoot's stick got high.

Marner, mathews played well. Mathews had 9 pts , 4 goals in 7 games. This was not the marner/mathews from the a yr ago. And certainly i was wrong about Campbell-- damn, he was solid. Dubas getting Lysbuskin and Giordano were good moves, sandin/dermott would have been cringrworthy. . Vasi was a horse in the 3rd! over 23 blocked shots by TB in game 7- 3rd was wild!

KUDOS to the Defending Stanley Cup Champions

one of Brisbois' late additions was the hero-- Mississuaga boy, haha liekly a Leafs fan as a kid.!Played for the Brampton Battalion

Very happy for Connor, for fcuks sake lose to LA? HC loses his job if that happened. Great snipe by Ceci. if Dall takes out Cal? think Edm will have a date with Col on the conference finals. ...hoping Edm Vs Cal

You're obviously a dumb American teenager that has never played or watched many hockey games.

One day you'll understand sports.

Maybe ?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA...

I've been watching sports for 50+ years and competed in most sports during my prime. Hockey, football, baseball, boxing...

Buy a clue, rookie.

Winners never quit and quitters never win. Your team quits - always.

In contrast, the champs don't quit - that's why they're champs. They lost Point in hostile territory during a pivotal game 7 and they STILL didn't quit. Instead, they battened down the hatches and threw every body part and stick in the way of every Leaf pass and shot, with the best goalie in the game as their insurance policy.

The Lightning are built properly, the Leafs are structurally flawed. Talented but flawed.

Go back earlier in this thread and reread what I told you: beer league hockey style doesn't win in the playoffs and the Leafs have too many ballerinas who play that style. I was right.

The Leafs are 0-10 in series clinching games during the Dubas-Keefe era.

They boast the longest Stanley Cup drought in the league, AND the longest drought of not winning a single round in the NHL.

No team in the history of sports has lost 5 - count'em FIVE! - game 7s in a row! Also, the ONLY home team to lose game 7 in the opening round this year. LOL

They are the biggest laughing stock in sports.

Remember, they once chocked against a Zamboni driver as the opposition goalie. Think about it..

Had you prevailed against the Lightning you would have been doing cartwheels in the streets, even though winning a round in EVERY other city means fuck-all.

It's basically a top-down culture of loserism.

And remember what I also said earlier... when Matthews leaves in a couple years because he's beyond disgusted with that losing culture you'll have absolutely nothing to show for having the "The Best Player in the Game".

Then maybe, MAYBE you'll understand sports.

Just beacuse TB won doesnt mean your reasoning was accurate--that wasnt beer league hockey Joe, lol . Toronto wasnt pushed around, and they never 'quit' . Vagueness is silly. The series went 7, lol. TB needed a 2-man adv in Game 6 to tie it with 10 min left. Nearly all main metrics were even ,except one;

pp. TB 21%, Tor 15%, and toronto had the #1 pp in the league

and Mathews proved to not be a ballerina, bro (see silly post #3). In Game 6- Kucherov, Point , Stamkos all COMBINED for 10 hits, Mathews had 9. And in Game 7 he had more hits than ANY TB forward.

They lost to the woeful Habs, Blue Jackets and a Zamboni driver.

Nylander is definitely a ballerina and so is Marner. Throw in Tavares and that's basically half your cap. Too many floaters dancing around the ice in circles and around the net without purpose until they basically cough up the puck. I think they were close to the top in giveaways in both zones during the season. Zero chances in the slot when the opposition decides to lock it down, which is what TB did.

I think the hockey IQ dropped in Canada since Don Cherry was kicked off the air.

Series was lost in the 3rd period during game 6. Leafs had something like 3 shots the whole period. So yeah, a championship team would have buried the reeling Lightning at that point. In fact, you had them...1-0, 2-1, 3-2...and then???

They don't have it, ricboff. They just don't have it.

i'll say this-- FIVE 1st round playoff series went to a decisive Game 7.

if someone would have told me beforehand that 4 of the home teams would win? max bet on TB :) ................there's gotta be something off the air comnig from Lake Ontario, my new working thesis

The Leafs lose when it counts because their best players aren't their best players when it counts.

Simple, right?

Their lethal powerplay (during the regular season) was 0-18 to end this series.

In five tries at winner-take-all playoffs games, Matthews and Marner have combined for a grand total of ZERO goals at all strengths. In nine potential series clinchers (all losses) their core four forwards have combined for six goals.

It would seem every team, from bottom feeders like the Habs and Blue Jackets to top contenders like TB, have these guys figured out.

Kucherov played hurt throughout the series, Point was injured in game 7...but TB still dug deep and found their heroes like Nick Paul and Vasi.

The Leafs aren't built to shut the door with a world class D or goalie when it matters, so when their big guns go cold they lose. And as you rightly noted, the last 5 game 7s they've gone stone cold every time.

TB looks banged up and probably out of gas for the next round, so this is a terrible look for a team that always promises so much but delivers so little.

The entire front office and coaching staff need to be cleaned out and replaced by real hockey men to fix what is a structurally flawed team. Are they talented? Yes. But definitely fatally flawed.

like u , ill call it like i see it. I have no problem changing a stance based on visible change. I was critical of marner/matthews a yr ago. Was also critical of dubas-- decision to get foligo last yr (gave up a 1st rounder, lol ) it didnt address the need --defense.He went with Sandin, Dermott--BOTH involved in critical goals on blatant dumb plays. Should have been fired, imo .he wasnt

THIS yr?
- matthews and marner grew. Matthews was a beast both sides of the rink. They played well.
- dubas' trade deadline deals were good, No question

going forward? I agree with Cherry below, i wouldnt blow up the core given what i saw in this TB series. Keefe? I like his eagerness to shorten a bench as needed. He works the horses. But does management look for a fall guy and he's gone? Trotz looks interesting. But i dont think Barry will be a yes- man, Dubas being so' hands-on-ish' not sure it will be a good match

u spoke of Don Cherry in a post above. I enjoyed him as well, colourful guy. Certainly didn't always agree with him , respected his view . He'd ALWAYS call it like he saw it. He's 87 yrs young :) Cool for a reporter to have reached out to him, here is what he had to say .the bold is CLASSIC DON!! hahahahahaha . - his go-to answer 24/7 LOL!!!!!!

Don Cherry; (copy paste)

While some call for change, Don Cherry counters that’s not the way to go.

“I would give them one more year because with that firepower, you can’t throw that team away.”
Before Game 7 and a neighbour asked me what I thought, and I told him I always worry when the other team has a goalie like that,” said Grapes. “It was Andrei Vasilevskiy who won it. You can’t knock Jack Campbell. He played great.”

Cherry understands the GTA’s hurt.

“I am hurting, too,” he said. “I have the maple leaf on my truck.” :)
If he could do anything, Cherry said he’d draft more Canadian players.

“Right here in the GTA, we have 40,000 kids playing hockey in the GTHL.”

He’d like to see more of them playing on the Maple Leafs. He noted how Tampa forward Nick Paul scored both goals that sent the Leafs golfing.“He’s from Mississauga,” said Grapes. “He would have scored a hat trick if he didn’t end up crashing into the net. He didn’t care if he lived or not.”
