Fair assessment...it really hurts the locals because their earnings are far less than the USA...average wage per day is around 300 baht which is slightly above 10 dollars...

There is still more bang to the buck when you consider costs for night life entertainment such as women and alcohol...lol

And hotel rooms, housing, and medical costs are still way cheaper....

Hopefully I am here to stay...

Cost of Goods in Thailand VS USA
A recent study released in the USA reported on the real change of the prices of basic goods since 2008 and showed the current costs of goods today.

Many people feel that Thailand has high prices and a high cost of living and it is often said that many basic goods are not much cheaper or even are more expensive than in the United States. Sunbelt Asia has done some research on the price of basic goods such as gasoline, chicken, potatoes, coffee, rice and other basic staples in Thailand to compare with prices in the USA for Oct 2012.

9 5kg Rice 139 Baht

It is interesting to note that gas and milk are the only items on the chart that are priced higher in Thailand. Cheese, which is not on the list, would most likely also be at least 50% higher. Other items not on the list, like chicken, pork and tuna, are considerably lower, with the price of chicken in the United States at $5.99 a lb for chicken breast compared to $1.03 lb in Thailand.

Of course the USA top round steak would be a much better quality in the US than the domestic beef in Thailand, however, if the top round is cooked slowly for many hours it will make even the toughest meat tender, and then the Thai beef would be very close to the taste of the American beef. The Thai price for prime top round beef comes from
Kubeef.

This graph of course, does not cover all of the basic staples but gives a good representation of how costs compare. Also, it is important to note that some regions of Thailand may be cheaper or more expensive than the prices listed here. Most Prices were sourced from Makro in Thailand.

We did not go into the inflation rates in Thailand to compare prices from 2008 to 2012 as this was not the focus of this article. It’s written to compare USA versus Thailand prices. Inflation rates in Thailand will be cover in another article.
Be careful what you wish for when you say “I wish this was the same price as its back in the States”
So you are saying I could go to Thailand and buy gold for 865 dollars an ounce!!?? :think2:

There are some older ladies for those not wanting to pay full price. By older I mean upper 20's and early 30's. You pay $60 to be with them instead of over $100 for the high end ladies.

I remember going to the soapy massage place in Phuket with the fish bowl (ladies all sitting behind glass on risers waiting for someone to pick them out). I though about how I could save some money by getting an older lady. I said screw it! Why not pay a little more for a beauty. It was still less than what I would pay in the US.

Bruce....the soapys are still here....the fun is picking one or two of them......

Sorry to keep putting you off but I will make it at the end of my current contract. It will end either at the end of September or in June of next year. If it's June I will be making my 'round-the-world trip and Pattaya will be on the itinerary.

Thai girl on Facebook. She's "available" if you know what I mean. And I think you do.
