So......this exists.

A woman’s right to choose (to whiten her vagina)

WhiteIntimate.jpeg

There’s been heated debate over vagina whitening since feminine bleaching product Clean and Dry Intimate Wash hit the Indian market earlier this year. Now the issue has hit closer to home with the launch of Lactacyd White Intimate in Thailand. The Bangkok Post reported that Sanofi Aventis (Thailand), the French company behind the whitening feminine wash product “revealed that the value of the feminine wash product market in Thailand is growing by around 10-15% a year, and will reach THB500 million this year.” As a young woman who is active in all areas of life, I really don’t see what the big deal is. After all, anal bleaching has been around for ages and it’s not just for porn stars. If we can accept one sex organ getting the Michael Jackson color treatment, then why not vaginas too?

Maybe some people are simply bothered by the idea of women whitening their va-jay-jays because it reflects a lack of self-confidence. Bear in mind that Sanofi Aventis has allocated THB80 million on TV and radio commercials (see below) and marketing campaigns to persuade women across Thailand that their genitalia needs to be fixed and is just 4 weeks away from near perfection. For those of you who think you have an ugly apparatus down below, let me remind you that they come in all colors, shapes and sizes!

Personally, I’m not opposed to women wanting to bleach their nether regions. Just make sure you know what the possible side effects are. As for bringing more excitement to your pussycat, there are loads of other options out there. You can always try waxing a thunder bolt butterfly the next time you visit a salon. That is, if you have any hair left from the last good-bye muff trend. Some of you may have lasered it off completely, in which case you may consider getting a “dirty tattoo.”

Are you wondering what men in Bangkok think about the whitening of privates? I managed to pose the question to some friends.

The first was my pseudo boyfriend who is a full-blooded Thai. His response to “What’s your take on vaginal whitening?” was “You don’t need it.” Aww… thanks babe! When I asked him how he viewed women doing it in general he said, “Stupid.” The man of few words may have a point, but I decided not to prod any further.

Another local Thai guy said, “Women should whiten their arses and their teeth. Not their pussies!”

Then I asked my British expat friend the same question and he said, “I think I would have to drop any girl that did [vaginal bleaching] for being such a moron.” From his response I initially thought he supported women being au naturel, but then he said this, “Now a boob job – that’s money better spent.” My response to that would take a whole other article so I won’t get into it here.

I also asked a male friend visiting from Australia who responded with, “It’s only a problem dependent on the woman. But most men would say ‘not necessary but welcomed.’ Cause if a girl is thinking about it maybe she needs it.”

Finally, I had to get the gay perspective from my Singaporean expat friend who said, “I think it’s great. Also ass bleaching. Just remember to research side effects.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself!

Chiang Mai was the capital of the Kingdom of Lanna (from 1262-1275, 1296-1775) which was in present day northern Thailand. See purple area below:

Thailand & Lanna Kingdom
Lanna or Lannathai is the given name of a prosperous self ruling kingdom, once the power base of the whole of Northern Thailand as well as parts of present day Burma (Myanmar) & Laos. The title means "Land of a million rice fields'..
The history of modern Thailand begins 5,000 years ago. The ancestors of today's Thai people lived in areas of Southern China. Through various migration streams they worked their way south to Thailand, Burma and Lao. They entered today's Thailand at Chiang Saen (Yonokanagakom) on the southern banks of the Mae Khong River; this gateway to Siam is known to have been a kingdom as early as 773 A.D.

The mighty Lanna kingdom was founded by King Mengri (1259 - 1317). He also brought a newly found unity to the North and annexed the Mon held territory south of Chiang Mai including their capital Lampoon (Hari Punchai). After the town fell he went in search for a new area to build a city. He found a well-watered meadow, stocked with game and other wild animals beside a huge mountain plentiful of waterfalls. Two of his friends were invited, King Ngarm Muang of Payao and King Rama Kampeng of Sukothai, to inspect the site and assist in construction to which they agreed. Each king made a small slit in his wrist and allowed the blood to spill into a silver goblet. When full they drank the contents vowing everlasting support and co-operation. (There was no war between the three kingdoms during the reign of these kings.) A monument to these three kings was built and can be located in the centre of Chiang Mai's old city. The town was built in 1296 and named Nopburi Sri Nakorn Ping Chiang Mai which was later shortened to Chiang Mai.
Lanna's power began to wane by the end of the 15th century and was repeatedly attacked by Lao and Burma whose troops and puppet lords occupied the area on many occasions. They introduced their own styles of food, buildings, costume and culture. Chiang Mai swayed between Burmese and Central Thai control with intermittent spells of self-government; The Burmese occupied the Lanna region from 1556 until it was finally annexed by Central Thailand in the late 18th century. However their loyalties of the locals were to themselves and they sided with Thai or Burmese armies at different periods.Today Northern Thailand (Lanna kingdom) is part of the Kingdom of Thailand and ruled from Bangkok.

Cost of Goods in Thailand VS USA
A recent study released in the USA reported on the real change of the prices of basic goods since 2008 and showed the current costs of goods today.

Many people feel that Thailand has high prices and a high cost of living and it is often said that many basic goods are not much cheaper or even are more expensive than in the United States. Sunbelt Asia has done some research on the price of basic goods such as gasoline, chicken, potatoes, coffee, rice and other basic staples in Thailand to compare with prices in the USA for Oct 2012.

It is interesting to note that gas and milk are the only items on the chart that are priced higher in Thailand. Cheese, which is not on the list, would most likely also be at least 50% higher. Other items not on the list, like chicken, pork and tuna, are considerably lower, with the price of chicken in the United States at $5.99 a lb for chicken breast compared to $1.03 lb in Thailand.

Of course the USA top round steak would be a much better quality in the US than the domestic beef in Thailand, however, if the top round is cooked slowly for many hours it will make even the toughest meat tender, and then the Thai beef would be very close to the taste of the American beef. The Thai price for prime top round beef comes from
Kubeef.

This graph of course, does not cover all of the basic staples but gives a good representation of how costs compare. Also, it is important to note that some regions of Thailand may be cheaper or more expensive than the prices listed here. Most Prices were sourced from Makro in Thailand.

We did not go into the inflation rates in Thailand to compare prices from 2008 to 2012 as this was not the focus of this article. It’s written to compare USA versus Thailand prices. Inflation rates in Thailand will be cover in another article.
Be careful what you wish for when you say “I wish this was the same price as its back in the States”
