There are a lot of Muslims in the tourist area i stay in near NEP in BKK. I wonder if they would risk bombing their own people? The Grace hotel, for example, near here is full of guys in turbans & long white robes. Maybe a guy would feel safer staying there. The area also has many local muslims with their shops, restaurants, & such. Though of course one does not need to come to the capitol to party in LOS; there are some excellent alternatives to BKK in Thailand - Chang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya - if one is coming here for the ladies.

"US citizens are urged to exercise caution when visiting public areas where large groups of Western tourists gather in Bangkok, the embassy added.

"They are also encouraged to keep a low profile in public areas, particularly those frequented by foreign tourists, it said.

Thailand is 10x better

You've been to Brazil, Seymour?

From what i've read:

Thailand:

Cheaper
Safer
Spinner heaven
Girls have thick Angelie Jolie bbbj lips
Can get by fine with English & w/o Thai

Brazil:

Girls have tits & asses
Are wild animals in bed
Easier to find non local [Brazilian] SP's?
More needed to know the lingo than LOS

can't compare it with thailand since I haven't been yet but Brazils wildly overated, there are hot women but they're like women here, the hot ones know they're hot and act like spoiled twits, the average one you wouldn't look twice at, had lots of fun and met some very hot women but if you're going for the chicks head down to South Beach you'll get better with less work. It's a fun country, not really cheap to go out but not bank busting either it was a fun experience I wouldn't keep going back tho.... Colombia blows it away in terms of women.

That differs quite a bit from my experience: First off, I'm in Balneario Camboriu, so that might have something to do with it since it's a tourist hot spot down here and therefore probably not the most "authentic" Brazilian city. About 100.000-150.000 people living here, but during summer time the city grows close to 1.000.000, lots of Brazilians (obviously) and Argentinians and people from Uruguay. Due to the university it's a rather young population and having two of Brazils best clubs (Green Valley and Warung) certainly doesn't hurt. So tons of hot women at the beaches and in the clubs and from my experience, very approachable and even if they aren't into you, they are extremely friendly and fun to talk to, so have to disagree with the "spoiled twits" part.
Definitely planning on coming back, but might not be too soon because it's rather hard finding a decently priced apartment here and there are other places, haven't been to yet, I want to go to first before returning to Brazil and Costa Rica.

sounds like you were there for an extended period of time if you had an apartment, that changes things over being there for a couple weeks and partying hard in Rio and Sao Paolo...arguably the New York and LA of Brazil...comparing those 2 to a college town is comparing 2 different worlds...I still had a blast and it's not that the women were unfriendly, they were social and I did relatively well but I'm just comparing it to other places I've been, experiences I've had and the vibe from hotties compared to the vibe from hotties elsewhere and it just didn't measure up for me. I'm glad your experience has been a better one. If I make it back and I'm sure I will eventually I'll make sure to get outside the big cities.

Been here since September and will be leaving in March, so yes, extended time and not your typical vacation. And I'm also pretty sure that this place differs a lot from SP for example, actually was told by lots of Brazilians that the women in general are "hotter" down here. I guess it just comes naturally because the majority is either here because of university or during summer time to enjoy the beaches and clubs, so rather young crowd and most of them here to have fun. If you came back to Brazil, I'd definitely recommend coming here for a couple of days and checking out f.e. "Green Valley".

for the guys who stay for extended periods...I was originally thinking i'd come for a month but debating extending it into 3+ months and doing some additional traveling. Phuket seems the flashy choice, Bangkok seems a little too much of everything... I do wanna party and club, enjoy some nice non pros but really want to relax, take in some good weather good food which city would you guys recommend? I started looking into Phuket a little and villa rentals are in the 75k thb range per month, private place furnished with a pool 2-3 bedrooms, not this one per se but something like this

is this about average or they trying to price gouge a non local?

Very high end....most places can be bargained for....

But you have to expect high end prices for resort areas like Phuket...

yeah Im a spoiled north american so my tastes usually run to the expensive but thought i'd see if that was the special non local rate, sounds like a little bit but what I'm gonna find in that area... I'm looking to have a place as a base but 2500 canadian might be a bit much to leave empty for a month while I hop over to Vietnam Cambodia etc...

VD which city are you living in down there and x files, where do you usually go when you're down there, from the sounds of that post you haven't done Phuket yet either, have you been BKK primarily or other areas? any place I'd get a better bang for the buck(not paying high end resort pricing) and still get out of the chaos of BKK but get some beaches

Nuckers...I am in Pattaya Beach, about an hour and a half drive south of Bangkok....the adult disneyland of the world with over 30 championship golf courses within a 30 minute drive....the beach here is nothing to brag about but the water activities are real good...snorkling, diving, windsurfing, jet skiing, parisailing, etc...you can find great places to live from 35 bucks a day to 150 a day...

My girls in BKK have kept me there so far, nuckers, though it could be a helluva lot of fun hitting up other spots in LOS & SE Asia. A few years back, BTW, i researched a bit into Vietnam and especially Cambodia.

Looking at a copy of "Thailand" i picked up in December at your Vancouver airport, it lists many beaches in the country, including Ko Phi Phi that is described as "heartbreakingly beautiful". I expect near most of them there'd be suitable accommodations available for around only $1000 a month.

A lot of younger people go down to the Full Moon Party in Ko Pha Ngan
Koh Samui has good night life too
BKK is just the hub to go south or north, and agree Chaing Mai was wicked.....

If you go make sure you visit VD, you wont regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!
