Since this got bumped, I'll post a story from just last night.
Around 3am'ish, Im at the Palms, 1 cab in front of me in line. This large black woman comes out of the door and starts towards the taxi line. She talks to the doorman for a second, and the doorman signals the cab in front of me to move up. That cab puts it in drive, and moves forward, continuing to move, and drives right past them haha...
So now, Im up, and I pull up and stop. Doorman tells me she is going to Ceasars Palace as she is getting in. So she gets in and I start the meter. Im nice and cordial and doing small talk. So we go over the freeway, and Im heading to turn left on Las Vegas BLVD, and as we pass the side entrance (NoBu Private Entrance), and she starts hollering "What r you doing, that's ceasars!! You is trying to cost me more money!"... I try and explain to her that the side entrance is for VIP's High Rollers and invited guests staying at Ceasars... She still continues to argue that Im trying to rip her off, and goes into a mini rage saying "Im calling your company to complain you are tryin to rip me off and steal my money" and asks for my companies phone # and such.
So we pull up to the VIP entrance, and the doorman opens her door. At this time the fare is a whole $8.14. She gives me $10.25 and wants $2 back (yay an $0.11 tip!!). So I give her the $2, and as soon as I am done doing that the doorman asks for her Players card or Room key (At this point Im waiting to see what happens, so I pretend im filling out my trip sheet). She shows him her room key, and he asks if she has a players card, which she says she doesn't. The doorman goes on to try and explain what that entrance is for, etc, just like I did. And then advised her she needs to go to the main entrance off of Las Vegas BLVD. At this point I lock my doors and the doorman tries to open the door to put her back in to drive her to the front... I tell him "Im good", and drive off. Looking in the rearview mirror, I started to feel bad for the doorman, as she is now 100% his problem, and with no cabs waiting at that entrance, he has to run out to Flamingo Road and try to hail a cab to come inside, to take her on a $5 ride around the corner to the front main entrance.... I also pity the cab driver that gets that ride.
BTW, that was my only black rider all night, and the only one that questioned where I was taking them, and left the smallest tip.
