Thanks Harry, so do you like the box? Is it worth it? Let me rephrase what don't you like about the box? What could be better?
Yes I like it. It is more than worth it. You could completely cut out cable with this thing and not miss a beat. I've been finding myself watching the box all day and not even flipping on DirecTV. Even if you don't cut cable (which I didn't because I have so many TVs), it is still a complete no-brainer investment just for the sports alone. One season of NFL and it has paid for itself.
I am COMPLETELY comfortable not purchasing, say NBA league pass or NHL center ice this year, and using this box instead. It costs about $1100/yr for all 4 major sports league tickets, not to mention college sports.
I will restate - the quality of the streams is top notch. Perfect HD, no buffering. I have yet to do a PPV event, I will report back after tonight's fight as it will be a good test. But I have been using it as my MLB extra innings package flawlessly.
I suppose if you're forcing me to choose areas for improvement:
I could see how the abundance of add-ons could prove confusing for a user who is not tech savvy. However if you follow the instructions I gave in an earlier post to use favorites, it's not difficult. If you are tech savvy this is a non-issue.
It would be nice if there was a "global guide" kind of thing, where there was a one-stop shop guide of all programming. Then let's say you select the Cubs vs Phillies game, and if it's available on multiple add-ons it would let you choose (and/or you could rank preferences). That is kind of a pipe dream though, and given 15 seconds to search I can find anything I want to watch anyway. I'd like to see the premium SubZero add-on have a guide; I hear it's coming though.
A "previous" button on the remote would be nice, which would allow you to toggle back and forth between 2 programs a little more easily. Not a major issue though as the streams load really fast, and if you organize your favorites correctly you shouldn't have issue finding anything.
Sometimes an individual add-on will not work. That's just the nature of the beast. Shit gets DDOS'ed, stuff goes down temporarily. What's nice is there are plenty of backup options. I can watch any one particular game on any one of 5 different add-ons. I like Wolf personally, but if it goes down I have other options. I have yet to find any game or program I wanted to watch where I couldn't find a way, no matter what was down. And uptime is generally really good and completely acceptable. And customer service is awesome - they will post on the facebook group if something is down, or where to find certain things.
I'll be really clear that these are nit-picky things, and the pros of this thing FAR outweigh any criticisms one might have. It is a great deal, a no-brainer. Awesome streams, great interface, good support community. Five stars.
