It is going to be a very scary two and a half months. The lame ducks will say they are just voting their "consciences" as opposed to voting for what the American people have indicated in the November election, that is, no amnesty/citizenship.

Mexico, special interests continue push to open border

Despite continued violence and travel warnings in Mexico, the pressure has not eased on the U.S. to open the border to long-haul trucking.
That pressure was amped up another notch late last week when a Mexican Embassy official told the National Foreign Trade Council that Mexico was “not willing to take” another pilot program, according to the Journal of Commerce.
Jose Luis Paz, the head of the trade and North American Free Trade Agreement office at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, DC, reportedly told the group that Mexico was looking for a permanent program.
“If you put in place a demonstration project similar to what we had, it can begin, but it can be defunded at any time,” the Journal of Commerce reported Paz saying. “Mexico is not willing to take that anymore. We need a program that is permanent, that has certainty and complies with NAFTA. And we’re not willing to accept anything less than that.”
Mexico has continued to try to pressure the U.S. into opening the border to long-haul trucks from Mexico with more than $2 billion in tariffs on U.S. products. The tariffs target products manufactured and grown in the home districts of lawmakers who oppose an unsafe cross-border program with Mexico.
Lawmakers and groups like the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association have called the tariffs “illegal” and urged U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk to fight back against the strong-arm tactic.
Kirk’s only real response has been to say that initiating another cross-border program is the “easiest” way to resolve the tariffs.
Special interest pressure
And, the pressure isn’t just coming from Mexico. Special interest groups in the U.S. have also piled on, adding more pressure on the U.S. government to open the border to long-haul trucks from Mexico.

The Free Trade Alliance keeps the cross-border trucking program on its agenda and the U.S. government in its cross-hairs for not initiating a new one.
The Free Trade Alliance was created in 1994, upon the passage of NAFTA, to develop San Antonio as a competitive international trading center. It’s made up of representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, banks, attorneys and even a utility provider.
The group routinely organizes letter-writing campaigns, sends opinion-editorial pieces to newspapers nationally, and admittedly works closely with the Mexican Embassy to keep the pressure on the U.S.
The group’s 2009 Trade Team summary stated that “the Alliance works very closely with Karen Antebi on the cross border trucking issue. We will continue to stay in close contact with her so the Alliance can be prepared for any vote that may unexpectedly arise on the DOT Demonstration Project.”
Antebi is an economic counselor within the Mexican Embassy.
The group’s newsletters continually report on efforts by the group to influence both public and political opinion on the cross-border issue.
Today in Mexico
All of this pressure continues despite continued violence in Mexico – violence that is spilling over and causing concern throughout Texas and prompting serious travel warnings.

The situation is so dire because of drug cartel-related violence that Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Homeland Security, issued a very clear warning during a recent Texas state Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security hearing.
“Make no mistake, the border is not secure. … The department issued a warning back in May: If you’re a U.S. citizen, don’t go on the Mexican side of that lake (Lake Falcone),” McCraw told the senators. “Candidly, nobody should be going into Mexico at this point in time – including senators.”
While his jab at the senators drew a few chuckles from the gallery, his testimony centered on the continued spread of drug cartel violence and the terrorist tactics that they employ.
Even the U.S. Department of State is continuing to warn U.S. citizens against travel in Mexico.
While truckers are not specifically mentioned, the State Department has repeatedly cautioned tourists against unnecessary travel on highways, warning of violence, potential carjackings and simply being caught in the crossfire of a cartel-related battle.
There are options
With the heightened concern for safety and security, many question whether there is an option to opening the border.

“There are most certainly options,” said OOIDA Director of Government Affairs Rod Nofziger. “We are not in a situation where it is simply open the border or suffer Mexico’s illegal repercussions.”
Many proponents of a cross-border issue point to a 2001 NAFTA Tribunal decision that ruled against the U.S.
The NAFTA arbitration panel found that the U.S. refusal to permit entry to any Mexican truck carriers was NAFTA illegal, but the panel also made it clear that U.S. safety standards do not need to be waived to comply with NAFTA.
“However, if in order to satisfy its own legitimate safety concerns the United States decides, exceptionally, to impose requirements on Mexican carriers that differ from those imposed on U.S. or Canadian carriers, then any such decision must (a) be made in good faith with respect to a legitimate safety concern and (b) implement differing requirements that fully conform with all relevant NAFTA provisions,” the Tribunal representatives wrote in the 94-page decision.
That gives the U.S. Department of Transportation a significant amount of power to ensure that the safety and security of U.S. roads and highways and the people who use them are protected. If Mexico and motor carriers based in Mexico cannot comply with safety and security standards set forth by the DOT, the border in essence would remained closed.
Another option, one presented by Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-OR, is to simply remove the trucking provision from the North American Free Trade Agreement.
DeFazio penned a letter – which was signed by 94 additional lawmakers – to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk urging that the U.S. remove trucking from NAFTA.
“We believe the U.S. should renegotiate Article 1202 of NAFTA, National Treatment of Cross-Border Trade in Services, to eliminate the requirement to open our borders to Mexican trucks,” the letter states. “This would remedy all the truck safety, homeland security, and unemployment issues associated with this long standing trade dispute. A successful renegotiation would also eliminate retaliatory tariffs, which are negatively impacting our export markets.”
The letter also goes on to point out that removing the provision would protect U.S. jobs.
“Removing the cross-border trucking provision from NAFTA will also prevent more job losses at a time when we can least afford them. Should the border be fully opened to Mexican trucks, the low wages of Mexican drivers will drive U.S. trucking companies out of business.”
Push back
Nofziger said that despite the lack of any indication from the DOT about plans to open the border, that with continued pressure from Mexico and special interest groups, truckers should continue to communicate their “very real” concerns to their lawmakers.

“We cannot let the future of trucking be determined by groups whose real interest is anything but the safety and security of highway users in the U.S.,” Nofziger said. “They are relentless and we must be as well. Lawmakers need to have no doubt where the American trucker stands.”

Friends of ALIPAC,

Time is short. We have 5 days left to save America.
...

Here is what you need to know....

Thank you Joy Behar!

Joy Behar's use of fighting words calling Sharon Angle a '*****' and promising some kind of violent reaction from her gang banging illegal alien homies in New York City has backfired. Angle sent Behar flowers and the message "Joy, raised $150,000 online yesterday. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Sharron Angle" Women voters are abandoning the Democratic fold in droves in response to this affront to all women. Behar has handed the election to Angle and hurt Democratic candidates nationwide.

Obama declares Americans 'enemies'...

President Obama's message to amnesty supporting Hispanic voters advocating they need to "punish our enemies" has also backfired. While his fighting words have increased the chances of sporadic violence towards Americans and possible massive civil unrest, such as we see in other nations, Americans are choosing to rebuke his comments.

It is widely seen as inappropriate for the President of the United States to declare and classify the over 200 million Americans of every race and party who oppose his radical Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty as 'enemies'. Black, Hispanic, Asian, and White voters who oppose Amnesty are switching their votes to Republican or sitting this election out in protest of Obama's antagonism towards Americans who oppose his political agenda.

These recent comments, along with Obama's comments that Republicans must 'ride in the back of the bus' have opened many eyes in the last few days causing Obama to cancel most of his public speaking plans around the country. Even Bill Clinton cannot generate audiences and the word is that Hillary has left the nation to distance herself from the Democratic collapse.

Apocalyptic Poll Numbers

In 1994, the conservative backlash in America shocked most Democrats. This time they see the wave coming but are powerless to stop it.

The recent polling data coming in suggests that the 2010 backlash may dwarf the historic events of 1994! The poll readings are incredible! Each day the news gets worse for the Democrats; the negative tactics of Obama and groups like the ADL, DCCC, the Independent Media sources controlled by George Soros, and the Huffington Post have backfired! Each desperate measure they deploy appears to only escalate the backlash and feed the flames!

FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS!

Six simple steps to victory.

1. We need each of you to focus on your ballot and rally everyone you can to join you to strike back at the polls on Nov 2!

2. Keep an eye out for Black Panthers and wacky voting machines. Report any problems immediately to us and your local media and authorities. We are tracking these incidents in the interest of election integrity.

3. Get your support for ALIPAC's operations in the door as soon as possible via this link. We are very low on funds and have an immense demand for assistance from those candidates who stand with us.

WE MUST HAVE MORE SUPPORT SOON VIA...
http://www.alipac.us/content-9.html

4. Approach the federal campaigns endorsed by ALIPAC closest to you to offer your immediate help as a donor and or as a volunteer. Get those signs in your yard and get close to our candidates and help them any way you can via this link...
http://www.alipac.us/2010_campaign_endorsements.html

5. Locate the TARGETED campaigns on the Endorsements lists featured at this link and concentrate national support behind these campaigns....
http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-216406.html

6. If you are within a few hours drive of Raleigh, do all you can to join us Friday night and bring others. We have just received exciting news that Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano, who is in a very close race against Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre (D-NC-7) will be speaking at our casual attire BBQ dinner this Friday night. We have four candidates for Congress coming, including Congressman Walter Jones. We need you there, don't let us down. More details at...

Let's keep our energy and momentum high as we march to victory! Our opposition is in retreat and it is time for us to launch a final charge!

Lame-Duck Congress Will Face Immigration Issue
by Virgil Goode

10/22/2010

Although the Senate is in recess, both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate introduced immigration bills in October to set the stage for debate on the issue through the election, the lame duck session, and the 112th Congress.

The) Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2010 sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez (D.-N.J.) makes the attempted amnesties from 2006 and 2007 look like Arizona’s SB 1070. The bill is over 800 pages long, so anti-amnesty researchers have not had time to comb through every little detail, but what they’ve found so far is bad enough. The bill will grant amnesty to every single illegal alien in the country. It will increase legal immigration by millions, and will nullify all state and local laws against illegal immigration.

The bill also gives amnesty for Social Security fraud, and gives in-state tuition to illegal aliens. Menendez’s bill incorporates the Uniting American Families Act, which allows homosexuals living in the US to sponsor their same-sex partners for citizenship. Giving federal recognition to gay partners in an immigration act could be used as a precedent to impose legal gay marriage throughout the country.

The same day Menendez introduced his amnesty, Sen. Orrin Hatch sponsored the Strengthening Our Commitment to Legal Immigration and America’s Security Act. Unlike Menendez’s bill, it is only a few pages long. It will prevent Obama from effecting an amnesty through executive order, eliminates the diversity visas—which gives 55,000 unnecessary green cards every year by a lottery—and encourages states to assist enforcement of immigration laws.

This is a good start, but does not come close to fixing our disastrous immigration policy.

Republicans do not need an 800-page bill like Menendez’s, but there are a few simple principles that need to guide our policies: We must increase border security and interior enforcement against illegal immigration. We need to remove rewards for illegal aliens. And we need to reform our excessive legal immigration policies to protect American workers and taxpayers.

The anti-amnesty organization Numbers USA lists five bills in the House of Representatives that will give real “comprehensive immigration reform”:

• The SAVE Act sponsored by Heath Shuler (D.-N.C.) mandates E-Verify to ensure that employers cannot hire illegal aliens and increases border security and interior enforcement.

• The CLEAR Act sponsored by Marsha Blackburn (R.-Tenn.) clarifies the inherent right of states to enforce immigration law, which will prevent the Obama Administration and activist judges from interfering with Arizona’s SB 1070 and similar state and local laws.

• The Birthright Citizenship Act sponsored by Gary Miller (R.-Ga.) will end the absurd practice of giving automatic citizenship to the children of illegal aliens.

• The SAFE Act sponsored by Bob Goodlatte (R.-Va.) will abolish the diversity lottery system that Sen. Hatch admirably aims to abolish in his bill.

• The Nuclear Family Priority Act sponsored by Phil Gingrey (R.-Ga.) will end chain migration for extended families. While most countries prioritize immigrants who have skills, America gives preference to family reunification including adult parents and siblings. They in turn can sponsor their extended family, creating a chain reaction of unlimited immigration. This bill will limit family reunification to children and spouses of legal immigrants and US citizens.

Additionally, we need to make across-the-board cuts on legal immigration. In 2009, we issued over 1.1 million permanent legal visas and nearly one million temporary work visas despite growing unemployment. Until Americans are back to work, we need to dramatically reduce these numbers to free up jobs for American citizens and prioritize the visas we do give towards immigrants who will not be a public burden and cost the taxpayers billions of dollars.

Unfortunately, the Republican establishment is not backing these bills or policies. The GOP leadership stood united against many of the pro-amnesty and anti-enforcement activities taken up by the Obama Administration and Democratic Congress.

We can thank them for exposing Obama’s attempt at amnesty via executive order and stopping the DREAM Act amnesty. But if Republicans take back Congress, Americans will expect them to do more than just stop bad bills. They must also take proactive steps to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and stop the flood of foreign workers.

Mr. Goode represented Virginia's 5th Congressional District from 1997 through 2009.

Alert! Election update and warnings on the lame-duck session! While CAPS is still analyzing the election results, there is some good news for those concerned with population growth in the United States. Not only will there be more votes in Congress against out-of-control immigration, but also the change in chairs of House committees will alter the very tenor of the debate.
Representative Lamar Smith of Texas will become chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees all immigration issues. He has been a leader in efforts to reduce immigration.
Representative Steve King of Iowa is slated to head the House Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee. King has actively opposed illegal immigration and has supported American workers by opposing an increase of the visa caps for foreign workers. On immigration issues, he is almost the exact opposite of the current chair, California's Representative Zoe Lofgren.
In addition, the new crop of governors is more favorable toward controlling immigration so we can anticipate an increase in state efforts to assist in enforcement.
A major concern is that open-border advocates will try to slip an amnesty through the "old" Congress. Senator Reid has promised to try to pass the Dream Act amnesty in the lame-duck session. He is hoping to pick up votes from those Senators who are leaving the Senate and will not have to face the voters again. We will keep you posted.

A recent article in the Durham News (
http://www.thedurhamnews.com/2010/11/06/204300/council-to-consider-mexican-id.html), indicated that the Durham City Council is deciding whether to accept the Mexican matricula consular card as a legal form of identification. They will make a decision by November 15th.

NCFIRE strongly opposes this acceptance of the matricula consular card as it is the leading "breeder" document towards identity theft and identity fraud. Those are not our words, but the words of the FBI, testifying before Congress on the matricula consular card:
http://www.fbi.gov/congress/congress03/mccraw062603.htm

Their are other problems associated with the ID card as well including:

1) The matricula consular is useful in the United States only for illegal aliens, since legal immigrants, by definition, have U.S. government-issued documents.

2) The Mexican government has launched an aggressive grassroots lobbying campaign to win acceptance for its matricula card from state and local jurisdictions and from banks, especially in areas where Mexican illegal aliens are concentrated.

3) The objective of this lobbying effort is to achieve quasi-legal status for Mexican illegals in the United States without waiting for action from Washington.

4) The matricula itself, however, is useful to illegal aliens only insofar as U.S. institutions are willing to collaborate with Mexico's efforts to circumvent U.S. immigration law.

5) While many jurisdictions have resisted pressure from the Mexican government, others have not; the matricula is now accepted by 800 local law enforcement agencies and 74 banks, as well as by 13 states for purposes of obtaining a driver's license.

6) Not only does the matricula subvert U.S. immigration law, it is not even a secure identity document. Mexico is not authenticating the documents used to obtain the matricula against computerized data files in Mexico.

7) Safeguards are not in place to prevent multiple issuances of matriculas to the same individual; in fact, the INS has already reported finding multiple cards in different names issued to the same person.

8) The matricula is becoming a shield that hides criminal activity for two reasons: first, the holder's identity was not verified when the card was issued, and second, police in jurisdictions that accept the matricula are less likely to run background checks on card holders picked up for minor infractions.

9) The U.S. Treasury Department has given its approval to banks to accept the matricula for opening bank accounts.

10) The acceptance of Mexico's matricula consular sets a precedent, making it almost impossible to reject similar cards presented by illegal aliens from other countries, including those which have sent terrorists to the United States in the past.

Please consider taking a few minutes to contact the Council members below and encourage them to reconsider the acceptance of the Mexican marticula consular card as a legal form of ID.

Main bill sponsors in BOLD

S.729/H.R.1751

Sources within the Democratic Party are saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants a vote on the DREAM Act during the lame-duck session, and it could be as soon as next week. The DREAM Act would provide amnesty to illegal aliens who are attending college or serve in the military, but it includes no enforcement provisions and several loopholes that would open the amnesty to many more than it is intended.
The Senate tried to bring the DREAM Act to the floor before the mid-term elections as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill. A Republican filibuster, however, prevented the Defense bill from even coming to the floor for debate.
Speaker Pelosi said she would keep controversial bills of the House floor in the months leading up to the election, but with the dramatic swing of the Immigration Balance of Power in the House as a result of the elections, she likely sees the lame-duck as the last chance to pass the DREAM Act.

These congressional traitors are more concerned with giving perks to illegal aliens than to solving the economic crisis they caused for US citizens. This is outrageous. This better not pass or there will be blood.

VETERANS DAY: We're Talking About Phone Calls, Not Foxholes -- Is That Too Much Service To Your Country?

By Roy Beck, Thursday, November 11, 2010, 5:59 PM EST - posted on NumbersUSA
picture-21_1285342200.jpg
On my guest appearances on radio shows today, hosts expressed concern that U.S. citizens are exhausted from the campaigns and elections and may feel like they just don't have the energy to fight another political battle so soon.
This was my basic response:
For all of you on this Veterans Day who never served in our country's military . . .
For all of you like myself who DID serve but never saw combat . . .
Please think about the courage, the sacrifice and the pain that our combat veterans have had answering the call of service to their national community.
Folks, we are talking about PHONES, not FOX HOLES here.
Surely, we, too, can serve our national community with the minor effort of picking up a phone and telling our Members of Congress that illegal foreign workers should not be allowed to keep their jobs permanently while 22 million American members of our national community who want a job can't find one.
Making the insult to veterans even more egregious is the fact that many of the Americans who will be left unemployed if this amnesty passes are veterans. Why in the world would our government pass an amnesty that prefers millions of illegal foreign workers over the men and women who risked their lives to serve our country in uniform?
House Speaker Pelosi says she hopes to have a vote next week.
Senate Majority Leader Reid has promised a vote some time during this Lame Duck session.
The DREAM amnesty would give permanent work permits to millions of illegal aliens and their adult relatives they will be allowed to bring into the country. Did our veterans fight so that their government could favor illegal aliens over unemployed American workers?
The congressional switchboard is 202-224-3121.
Even better, go to the Phone Action Notes on your NumbersUSA Action Board.
