How many more bombs have to go off before YOU wake up & start paying attention Fletch?

RR at this point i'm not even sure what your position is. so we've got, allegedly, a couple of young men that have been here for 10+ years, came in legally, and decided to get across their chechen anger outside of russia, on their home soil

so do you believe that no further immigration should EVER occur? it seems like whatever legal processes were/are in place were followed by this family and that they've been fairly model citizens for a decade so what's your answer?

i know it's nice and easy to say "WAKE UP AND START PAYING ATTENTION" but wtf are you trying to say and why are you using this episode to prove a point? I could see if it was some Mexican that got into the country illegally and bombed a warehouse but we're talking about folks here legally.

am i missing something or is this just a fun little exercise in finding americans that do some really fucked up shit that happen not to be born here? (like all of our family trees, i might add)

Why am I using it?...A very unfortunate but yet a golden opportunity to bring peoples attention to Immigration...We bring in & have been bringing in more Immigrants Legally than the rest of the world does combined since 1965 or about 1,125,000 per year not including chain migration...Been in traffic lately?...Do you see how crowded the roads are nowadays & thats just one of many examples..What about jobs?..Depressed wages?..Lost farmland?..Water shortages?.. ect ect ect...Yes I think all Immigration both Legal & Illegal should be stopped for a minimum of 5 years & no more birthright citizenship...Excessive Immigration negatively affects just about everything in our lives & our quality of life....

What these guys did is a horrible crime, its over and done, My concern right now is the fact that we have made it so easy for millions more to come here, many with no backround checks , just rubber stamped , My concern is how many more , how many others are here with the intention of doing the same thing

i truly appreciate the direct answer to my question...awfully refreshing to see people can actually answer a fn question around here without rocking the sophomoric asshole and troll responses. while i might not completely agree i can at least appreciate your position now that i understand what it is :)

i've been in two hi-tech businesses that extensively used H1B's to find the engineering talent they needed. now whether or not they actually needed to go the h1b route can be up for debate. i can tell you that it's a hell of a lot easier finding a algorithms engineer (for example) if you're willing to go the h1b route than it is waiting for that us citizen to come along. sad but true that there are more indians currently enrolled in a software engineering discipline in an Indian college than the US have working as software engineers in the states. but, our American Idol culture doesn't give much excitement for math or science curriculum and careers. personally i think the answer could be to give tuition discounts and/or more schollies for kids that go to school for computer science, mech eng (well, all eng really), physics, and chemistry. you want to go to school for education, psych, or accounting? fine, but pay full price....

just a thought...

the pay for the jobs i'm talking about, you mean? last two algo eng's i placed were making a shade under 100k and they were both in mid-upper 20's less than 5 years out of getting their masters.

can't make 100k with a masters in education or accounting at 27 years old. what i'm saying is if companies refused to look at h1b's or student visa candidates for these highly specialized technical positions they'll fall behind because we simply don't have enough americans going to school for these disciplines. no american company needs to hire a visa-holding applicant for a customer service role or almost any operations role for that matter but it's damn tough to find specialized technical talent if you cut off the visa route and then you're giving them no choice to to offshore these projects

RT: Obama leaped on the Newtown disaster to begin pushing gun control. Why because it fit his agenda. Why shouldn't he and/or others use the Boston Marathon to come to grips with immigration. Why because it does not fit his agenda. I can see that RR is using the Marathon episode to prove a point and the point is well taken. The Russian Gov't asked the U.S. to check the older brother out, they saw him as a threat for some reason. We gave him a pass. That was a chance to do a check and balance and we blew it. We let them and their families in legally and then insulated them and in fact protected them as if they were citizens at that time.

We just got the warning of a lifetime, a bigtime reminder that what happened on 9-11 can happen anytime anywhere. I think the authorities did a hell of a job pursuing, locating, and capturing or killing the perpetrators. Those two, despite whatever Chechnyan connections they may or may not have had are a new breed of cat. They were self radicalized and used the internet to pursue their fixation. People around them had no idea what they were up to, it is like they lived two distinct and separate lives.

Yes we need to look at the whole picture. We need to tighten up immigration across the board, legal and illegal both. We need to learn to follow up on security checks on people who have been targeted as a possible security risk. There was no follow up. Meanwhile we need to tighten the borders and simply enforce the laws that we already have in place.

Yes like Newtown the Boston Marathon has to be a catalyst for change. Are these people rogues, if so we have to learn how to deal with them on their own level. They were posting things on line etc, there are tell-tale signs that need to be pursued and no file should be closed. It seems like Fast and Furious, Benghazi, Newtown, the Boston bombings are all things we need to learn from and grow from. It just seems to me that all this administration has is a rear view mirror and they prove that hindsight is not always 20-20. We have to recognize these situations for what they are, do everything in our power to prevent them happening again, and a lot of this has to do with tightening up on immigration. This has always been a free and open society but all indications are that something has to change in order for things to get better. That should not be a political football but we do need to tee it up and get the show on the road.

i disagree russ. the gun laws worked in the newtown case. the guy was denied a gun...what else can you do? if a nutter has a will strong enough there's nothing you can do about him carrying it out. it had nothing to do with needing to enforce the laws on the books. hell, same with boston. these guys were here legally (as far as i understand) and could have been a poster family for the positives of legal immigration for the past decade.

i've always been and always will be for teachers carrying out their 2nd amendment but that's not something on the board here. what i'm not for is our lawmakers thinking more legislation and less freedoms keep us safer. they don't

Newtown was not about denying the killer the guns, they were trying to make the point that he had access to guns and they spun it from there. It is the spin that they gave it that I am referring to. I agree with you on the legislation vs. freedoms issue. I was merely trying to point out that Obama was "using" the incident to promote his agenda.

Gang of Eight's Amnesty Lie
Their goal: Rush bill before public can learn about it.
Our goal: Expose cost and amnesty.

Dear Jim Myers,

The Senate Gang of Eight has finally introduced their Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, and it's far worse than anything that could have been imagined. And YES, it rewards illegal immigration by granting work permits and eventually citizenship to those who entered the country prior to 2012.
It also puts the interests of foreign workers ahead of the interests of American workers by increasing legal immigration by at least 50 percent over the next decade, until the unemployment rate reaches 8.5%. That's higher than the Obama administration believed the unemployment rate would everreach in the current Great Recession. This does not count people who are underemployed or have given up looking for work. Can you imagine the effect that will have on driving down wages?
Supporters know that NumbersUSA is an absolutely essential organization to stopping this bill. This is why we urgently need your financial support.
"The groups -- spearheaded by Numbers USA and its combative president, Roy Beck -- have played a key role in blocking legislation that would open up a 'pathway to citizenship' for undocumented workers, according to lobbyists on both sides of the contentious issue."

--MSNBC. April 4, 2013

Backers of the bill that the bill is not an amnesty. But illegal aliens would be legalized and get work permits, before a single increase in enforcement to stop future illegal immigration.
"This is not amnesty. Amnesty is the forgiveness of something."

--Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
"The crux of their deal is that illegal immigrants would be granted immediate legal status..."

--Washington Times, April 14, 2013
Supporters claim that illegal aliens would not be eligible for welfare and other benefits. This is only an accounting trick to allow them to exempt the bill from budget rules that require supermajorities for bills that increase the deficit. The truth is that once illegal aliens are granted their green cards years from now, they will qualify for all benefits, including Social Security, welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, and even subsidized Obamacare. The final cost for the bill could be trillions of dollars. Not billions, but trillions.
Moreover, even if the bill does contain strong, loophole-free language to this effect, it will only succeed in delaying -- not reducing -- the cost to taxpayer...Once the present illegal population receives green cards, they will be eligible under current law for a wide array of federal welfare programs including food stamps, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Medicaid

--Letter by Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and Pat Roberts (R-KS)
The Gang of 8 must know how indefensible their bill is, because their strategy is to rush the bill through Congress, before the public can learn about.
The news media will doubtlessly label attempts to slow down the bill as a "filibuster" and will claim that the bill deserves a chance to be heard. How ironic is that? They want to vote on the bill before anyone has a chance to know what's in the bill! We have to let the Senate know that the American people know what they're up to. And we're confident that if the public has time to learn about this bill and how terrible it is, senators will be terrified to vote for it. They know this, and that's why they want to rush it through!
Here are some of the outrageous elements of the bill:

  • The bill will slow down immigration increases only if the unemployment rates surpass 8.5 percent.
  • Amnestied illegal aliens will qualify as anchors so that their families can legally immigrate; in fact, their whole families will get extra points under the point system.
  • The Department of Homeland Security can change the point system at any time, without congressional approval.
This immigration bill is so bad, our top legal analyst states, "This is Congress giving away the power to reshape America to the executive branch, with virtually no limit."
But let me give you a bit of hope:
This bill is so bad that we believe that many senators who are up for re-election in two years know they cannot support the bill. They are terrified that they will be creamed by opponents pointing out how bad this bill is for American workers, and how badly Congress is subverting the will of the people. They remember the outcry the last time Congress tried to pass a "comprehensive immigration reform" bill that wasn't even as bad.
The danger is from Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and his allies, who are boastfully lying that they have sold their constituents on amnesty. They are hoping that trying to repeat our stunning achievements of 2007 will be like trying to capture lightning in a bottle, or that with all of Congress' new telecomm technology, members won't be so overwhelmed.
We can do this. We have a million more members. We're utilizing the full power of social media. The one thing that is missing is the funds to pay for it all! We've always offered our services free of charge, to make sure every American can use our systems to call, fax, and e-mail their Congressmen.
If we don't defeat this amnesty, we can look forward to rapid growth in deficits, tens of millions of more people adding stress to our infrastructure and natural resources, jobless rates stuck at eight percent, and tens of millions of able-bodied American workers without a job. Can you imagine all this happening just because we couldn't pay the bills?

Texans For Arizona's New Immigration Law

Opponents of the Gang of Eight's Amnesty Bill:

"Why are there immigration laws in the first place? For the benefit of the American people -- not for the benefit of people in other countries who want to come here.

But political and media elites treat the American people as if they are the problem -- a problem to be circumvented with sophistry and pious promises about border security that have not been kept in all these years since the last amnesty, decades ago."

-- Thomas Sowell, "Immigration Sophistry", Human Events

"Rubio said his comprehensive immigration plan isn't amnesty because "amnesty is anything that says 'do it illegally, it will be cheaper and easier.'" But, he assures us, it's "cheaper, faster and easier for people to go back home and wait 10 years" -- as the law currently requires -- "than it will be to go through this process that I've outlined."

Then why is he doing it? If it's "cheaper, faster and easier" for illegals to apply for citizenship under current law, what exactly does Rubio's plan accomplish?"

-- Ann Coulter, "If Rubio's Amnesty is so Great, Why is he lying?", AnnCoulter.com

"If the ACLU can just tie up the E-Verify system at the DHS and in court for 9.5 years after legalization (which happens six months after the date of enactment) all the legalized illegals get green cards anyway, whether the system is in place or not. The same goes for the exit-visa system. Of course, the usual amnesty opponents in Congress have also been vocal this week."

-- Mickey Kaus, "Krauthammer Got Played", The Daily Caller

"The Senate's immigration proposal contains a fatal flaw. It legalizes almost everyone in the country illegally, also known as amnesty, before it secures the border. As a result, the Senate proposal issues an open invitation to enter the country illegally."

--Rep. Lamar Smith

"This bill is legalization first, not enforcement first. The day the bill passes there will be effective amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, with only the same promises we have heard before of enforcement to occur at some later date...

I am confident the American public will firmly reject it--and will demand reform that puts the national interest first."

--Sen. Jeff Sessions

"We're very concerned that this bill is the same fundamentally flawed model from the past. It's immediate amnesty with a promise of enforcement."

--Sen. David Vitter

"I do not think it is a good idea to start out an immigration reform bill that tries to address the needs of the 11 million upfront. We have the opportunity to straighten border security, reform our visa system and implement fully our long-sought-after visa entry and exist system."

--Sen. Mike Lee

"The Gang of Eight's bill is aggressive and outrageous amnesty. It is instant legalization of all illegal immigrants in the United States, with very few exceptions. It contains only promises: the promise of a plan for border security, of a backup plan for the border security, and of workplace enforcement in the form of making E-Verify mandatory."

Amnesty Plus, Plus

Published on Saturday, 20 April 2013 09:24Written by Tom Fitton

At first it was called "stealth amnesty," back when the Obama administration circumvented Congress and began quietly (and unlawfully) releasing
amnesty_bill.jpg
illegal aliens onto the streets. After the press outed the Homeland Security-led scheme, the Obama administration went public and started proudly "prioritizing" illegal alien deportations, allowing violent illegal alien criminals to stay in the country without repercussion. And now, President Obama's illegal alien amnesty program has been concretized in a mammoth 844-page bill endorsed by the so-called "Gang of 8" Senators, including key Republicans, who struck a deal on the bill behind closed doors.(You can read the legislation for yourself here. But at 844 pages, be prepared to give up your entire weekend and then some - and that's if you read nonstop! Credit to CNS News' Craig Bannister for doing the math.)But here's the bottom line: this legislation provides amnesty for millions of illegal aliens - and their relatives - almost immediately with the possibility of permanent status for illegals after 10 years of "good behavior," followed by citizenship three years later. (Some illegals are given a "streamlined path to citizenship" in half that time.)

Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from the border state of Texas, did not mince words in his response to the illegal immigration overhaul:"It's hard to believe, but the Senate immigration bill is worse than we thought. Despite assurances, the border is not secured before almost everyone in the country illegally is given amnesty. The bill guarantees there will be a rush across the border to take advantage of massive amnesty.""And the Senate proposal offers amnesty to far more illegal immigrants than we thought. In addition to most of the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the country, the bill offers to legalize the relatives of illegal immigrants outside the U.S. and even others who have already been deported back home. So current immigration laws are shredded."As The Hill reports, the new bill, heavily criticized for its lack of attention to border security would, nonetheless, "bring a raft of new regulations and add more layers to the federal bureaucracy." New federal agencies will be created, new rules devised, the visa system completely overhauled. And if you take a look at some of the legislation's key components, an inordinate amount of money and time are wrapped up in helping illegal aliens - who should lawfully be deported immediately - to transition into society. How else do you explain the fact that the legislation calls for the creation of a task force of Cabinet-level officials to help with illegal alien integration issues?Or the bill's proposed pilot program which provides block grants to state and local governments to establish New Immigrant Councils to help illegal aliens successfully transition from illegal to legal. (The cost of these proposed grants - $100 million.)Or the Agriculture Department's charter to establish new housing and pay standards for sheep and goat herders? And the special treatment is not simply limited to government coddling. As the law is written, newly legalized aliens are even given a leg up on jobs over their citizen counterparts! According to an analysis byInvestor's Business Daily, under this proposed legislation businesses have a $3,000 incentive to hire a "newly legalized immigrant" over a U.S. citizen:The bipartisan legislation released Wednesday dictates that those granted provisional legal immigrant status would be treated the same as those 'not lawfully present' are treated under the 2010 health law. That means they would neither be eligible for ObamaCare tax credits nor required to pay an individual tax penalty for failing to obtain qualifying health coverage. It also means some employers would face no penalty for failing to provide such workers affordable health coverage. As IBD points out, under Obamacare, if health insurance costs are above 9.5% of a full-time worker's salary, that worker is eligible for the Obamacare exchange program. And employers who provide health insurance for their employees may be required to pay up to a $3,000 fine for each worker who receives Obamacare subsidies - but not if that worker is "newly legalized" and, therefore, exempt from provisions of Obamacare. And, folks, pay attention to the language in this bill. It is important. The legislation creates a brand new bureaucratic phrase: "registered provisional immigrant." So if you've been paying attention to how things have unfolded to this point since President Obama took office, we have moved from the term "illegal alien" to "undocumented worker" to now "registered provisional immigrants." Guess what term comes next. According to the bill, the name of the chief federal agency responsible for overseeing immigration policy will be changed from "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services" to the "Office of Citizenship and New Americans."From "illegal alien" to "New American."Yes, this is the largest overhaul of the immigration system in decades. So obviously, given the complexity and enormity of this legislation, Congress will allow for a protracted review process, right? Not if the "Gang of Eight" have their way. Bill supporter Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) seems to think two hearings, at most, should do the trick. The first is scheduled for April 22, 2013. This hearing had originally been scheduled for this past Wednesday, but has been postponed due to the Boston terror attack (which, as you can see above, is directly related to this issue.) Like Obamacare, the process is being perverted. The bill is released in the middle of the night, a hearing with still-secret witnesses is held less than a few days later, and a key committee vote would take place by May 15. So, here is how I see it. This bill grants amnesty almost immediately to most of the illegal aliens here. It also allows for amnesty for relatives of these illegal aliens. And it allows certain illegal aliens who have been deported to be granted amnesty. That, folks, is amnesty, plus, plus! To be clear, the bill does not require the border to be secure for this nearly instant, massive amnesty to take place. There's still much to be unwrapped from this monstrous bill. This comprehensive immigration reform is to immigration as Obamacare is to health care.I strongly encourage you to contact your senators today. Do not wait as this legislation is set to be rushed through the process without your voice being heard. The phone number for the Capitol Hill switchboard is 202-224-3121. And here's a link to a site where you can find the contact information for every U.S. Senator.

[h=2]Enforcement Deceptive in Immigration Bill[/h]
Exit-tracking system mandated since '96, but promise not kept; Bill requires system only at sea and airports, not land borders

Attention Immigration Activists:

Help us fix North Carolina House bill 786 (Reclaim NC Act). Section 9 of this bill is a huge magnet to illegal aliens all over the country. It allows NC to issue drivers permits/ licenses to illegal aliens. We can't allow illegal aliens to get a driver's license in NC.

We need to focus on five committee members.....see their contact info below.

Call and/or email them and say the following:

North Carolina House Bill 786 should be a state immigration enforcement bill only, but provisions are included in the bill to give almost all illegal immigrants in North Carolina a legal driving permit (aka a driver’s license). Section 9 is a giant magnet to illegal aliens all over the country and our state will be over run with illegal aliens because of it.

Our roads will not be safer and this bill makes it easier for illegal immigrants to get to the jobs that belong to North Carolinians (85% of illegals do not work in agricultural-related jobs).

Rep Warren’s bill, H786, also guts our state E-Verify law. Seasonal workers are exempt from e-verify. This bill redefines a seasonal worker. Currently a seasonal worker is defined as 90 days or less. Section 8 changes that definition to less than one year. Theoretically, anyone can be a seasonal worker simply by missing just one day of work, there-by exempting them from the e-verify check.

We have over 9% unemployment and illegal immigration is costing North Carolina taxpayers over $1.1 billion net. Remove the license language (Section 9) and fix the E-verify clause (Section 8)
