The ACLU of North Carolina delivered a petition, with more than 22,000 signatures to Gov. Pat McCrory on 12/12/13, which urges him to support issuing licenses to illegal aliens. We urge you contact the people listed below and say "NO to licenses for illegals"!

Suggested talking points:

“I ask for your support in opposing the issuance of NC drivers license to illegal aliens by the NCDMV. The NCDMV is under pressure by the ACLU and other activists groups to issue licenses to illegal immigrants. Of course these same groups are opposed to voter ID laws because they want illegal immigrants to have the same rights as law abiding US citizens or legal immigrants. This is wrong!
...
Just because we can give illegal aliens a NC drivers' license, doesn't mean we should. A NC drivers' license is a privilege reserved for law-abiding NC residents, not a right guaranteed to law breaking illegal aliens. A NC drivers' license confers a "quasi" legal status to illegal aliens and is the most critical document needed to register to vote. The rest are easily forged or stolen (ie: birth certificates, social security cards, etc).

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is an example non-representative government because the DREAM Act was rejected by Congress on more than one occasion. We need the rule of law in NC, not the rule of executive fiat. Please oppose the issuance of NC driver’s licenses to illegal aliens by the NCDMV.”

[h=5]Elderly immigrants are becoming wards of the state.............The scam is simple. Senior immigrants typically live with their foreign-born adult children who already have gained their U.S. citizenship. After five years of green-card status, the parents can apply for citizenship. From 2000 through 2011, about a million persons aged 60 or over were granted citizenship, accounting for about 13 percent of total naturalizations.

Entitlement spending and immigration are two issues that threaten America’s financial future. The two controversies meet in the case of the newly arrived elderly, many of whom have discovered they can cash in on an overly generous welfare system.

Two new Bills introduced in the NC House!

HB141 -DACA Beneficiaries/Drivers License Moratorium
http://ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2013&BillID=hb141&subm itButton=Go

This bill would give the General Assembly the time necessary to determine all the ramifications of issuing licenses to DACA eligible individuals, (a decision that SHOULD be made by the General Assembly and not by an appointed government official). HB141 has the support of the House leadership and the Governor.

HB118 House Bill 118- Consular Documents Not Acceptable as ID
http://ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2013&BillID=hb118&subm itButton=Go

This bill would deny the use of foreign consular documents as acceptable ID in NC. It is now accepted as proof of residency in NC, by the NCDMV when applying for a NCDL and many state agencies when applying for social welfare programs. (How does possessing a foreign ID card prove you live in NC?)

“Approx. 50,000 DACA eligible individuals are expected to register for a NCDL”

“Along with "lawful presence" comes the chance to apply for a Social Security card and work permit.” (http://www.journalnow.com/news/local/article_02ffb74a-7d59-11e2-90ef-001a4bcf6878.html) Those 2 documents, combined with a new NCDL, will enable the DACA eligible individuals to apply for any NC social welfare program or register to vote, just like any legal NC resident can.

NCFIRE urges you to contact your NC State Representatives and NC State Senators. Tell them to act quickly and support these two bills.
