What Coolidge did was austerity, what's going on in Europe is pure statism where the government controls large swaths of the economy. So increasing spending or decreasing spending by a couple % points (even if it true, which it isn't), won't make a difference.
When the government is smothering everything and everyone, there is simply no room for growth. Period.
The economic and social consequences in Japan, Europe and in the United States are obvious to alll but the most hard-line 'progressives' hooked on Big Government crack.
