It was quite an opening week for the sports bettor in the NFL. In games in which the side moved 1.5 or more points they were 6-1 against the oddsmaker. There has been mostly balanced action in tonight’s ESPN game, but they have found four baseball games to sink their teeth into.

MLB – Chic. Cubs at Houston 8:05 EDT CSN, FSH
It’s a cellar dweller experience in Houston with the Cubs in town. The two worst teams in the NL Central will face one another (it’s hard to call this a battle) and the total has teetered downward from 9 to 8.5 even if the pitching matchup is Rodrigo Lopez (3-3, 4.78 ERA) vs. Henry Sosa (0-1, 6.00). Even with Chicago improved play, they still rank 18th overall in runs scored (4.1) and Houston comes in 26th at 3.8. There might be enough evidence to suggest this could go the opposite way since the Astros are 18-6 OVER after scoring one run or less and the Cubs in spite of their deplorable defensive play in win over Atlanta on Sunday, are 9-0 OVER in road games after they have committed three or more errors. 3DW Position– Play Over

MLB – Florida at Colorado 8:40 EDT FSFL, RT
Florida will gladly take to the road after a calamitous1-9 homestand, especially since they are 32-25 (+12.6 units) in the traveling grays. Retreads Clay Hensley (1-4, 4.50) and Kevin Millwood (0-1, 3.86) is the pitching matchup and baseball bettors have determined that alone is more than enough reason to pump up the total from 10 to 10.5. Hensley in his career hasn’t allowed many runs away from home (4.3 RPG is opponent’s average) under the lights and he is 12-2 UNDER in road night games. MLB – Texas at L.A. Angels 10:05 EDT FSH, KCOP
It’s an extremely important four-game series in the AL West, with the Angels trailing Texas by four games in the loss column. The club from Anaheim has to win three times to reduce the deficit, but their chances are not good in the opener. With how ineffective Joel Pineiro has become, the Halos have turned to rookie Garrett Richards (0-1, 10.80) and the Rangers ride into town scoring 6.1 runs per contest in last seven outings. With this, the linemakers total has been driven upward from 8 to 8.5. As it turns out the bullpens could play a larger role since Texas is 9-0 UNDER in road games vs. a decent bullpen whose WHIP is 1.350 to 1.450 and L.A. is 19-8 UNDER in home games vs. a good bullpen whose WHIP is 1.350 or better this season. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Toronto at Seattle 10:10 EDT RSN, RT
Seattle is fresh off their series win over Boston and has their promising All-Star rookie Michael Pineda (9-7, 3.57) taking the mound tonight. He’ll be matched against fellow rookie Henderson Alvarez (0-0, 4.76), who'll be making his second career start, but it is the rest of the Toronto team that is a concern. First year sensation Brett Lawrie is batting .355 with two homers and seven RBI’s in nine games and his teammate Edwin Encarnacion is even hotter batting .409 with three homers and nine RBI’s, during a season-best 13-game hitting streak. Jose Bautista took one yard yesterday and home run hitters tend to hit them in bunches and adding up all the Blue Jays positives, is it any wonder they have fallen from a +145 underdog to +130 or less. In the second contest of the day/night doubleheader, the wagering public lacks faith in acquired Boston starter Erik Bedard (4-7, 3.55). The lefthander has manufactured two unimpressive five inning stints since arriving from Seattle with a 4.50 ERA and the Red Sox have in turn toppled from -170 to -150 or less, despite Bedard owing a 11-4 record versus Tampa Bay. Two veteran pitchers will duel in Houston with Ryan Dempster (10-8, 4.70) throwing against Brett Myers (3-12, 4.71). The Cubs Dempster has found a rhythm, riding a three-game winning streak (2.84 ERA) with outstanding command, supporting 17 strikeouts in 19 innings. The Astros Myers has modeled his teammates with 0-7 record and a 5.60 ERA in previous 10 starts. Depending on how a bettor feels about each pitcher and team for that matter, the total lowering from 8 to 7.5 is cause for pause. The Orioles won for just the second time in 14 tries in Oakland last evening and will be trying to break a couple of bad tendencies. Baltimore hasn’t won consecutive road games since June 19-20 and the last time they put a trio of W’s together was June 6-10. As bad as O’s have become, they are given a shot now as +130 or lower after being +145 on the overnight line. Astonishingly, the Orioles are 12-3 playing against a team with a win percentage of 38% to 46% in 2011. You will see money lines in baseball locomote 35 or more cents on occasion, but it is rare without injury or pitching substitution. The same is also true on the total, with a contest where the line makers original release will proceed one full run. Yet that is exactly what happened for Toronto and Seattle as the number went from 7.5 to 8.5. When this occurs there is only one reason without a pitching change taking place, two motley hurlers. I’m like a lot of sports bettors today, angry, but for different reasons. The line shakers should have had a winning day, until the Cubs Carlos Marmol give up a grand salami walk-off bomb to Houston, costing them a totals winner. My beef today is what are sports bettors thinking today? I’ll give them a pass on moving Houston from a -130 favorite by the oddsmakers to -115 or less strictly because it’s the Astros and one other game, but two Line Moves stand out like Snookie in a bikini, are they nuts?

MLB – Minnesota at Detroit 7:05 EDT FSNO, FSD

The total on this AL Central showdown shifted from 9.5 to 9, which sounds pretty harmless, especially because Minnesota’s Carl Pavano (6-9, 4.55 ERA) has permitted only two earned runs in his last two starts (15 1/3 innings). But a closer look reveals the Twins starting pitcher has a 6.03 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break. Do his recent two starts suggest a turnaround or an anomaly? Next is Brad (used to be Big Bad, as in good) Penny. The former All-Star starter has an ERA of 8.81 (which would be his time running to first base if he batted) in his last three starts. In his career, Penny is 43-26 OVER at home when the total is 8.5 to 10 and if you take the current earned run averages of both hurlers facing the opposite teams it comes out to 9.66, just for the time they have thrown in each encounter. MLB – L.A. Dodgers at Milwaukee 8:10 EDT KCAL, FSWI

Milwaukee is a Major League best 46-15 at home and has won 14 of 15 at Miller Park, sending the fans home happy almost every night. In addition, the Brewers have pulled away in the NL Central with a Usain Bolt-like 18-2 spurt. With Zack Greinke (11-4, 4.08) 8-0 pitching in Brew Town (the Brewers are 10-0 in his starts), is it any wonder the Crew went from -185 to -200 or higher? 3DW Position – Milwaukee wins

Logic dictates Cleveland is the play with their 9-0 record after six consecutive games versus AL Central rivals this season. This is one of those contests where the action is headed both ways earlier in the day. Boston began as -190 favorite with Josh Beckett (9-5, 2.40) climbing to the top of the mound and he is 4-0 with a 2.93 ERA in five starts at Kansas City. However, sports bettors at various sportsbooks are seeing one way action depending on the outlet. Some books have the Red Sox as low as -174, in part because they are 2-5 in last seven games and generated only nine hits for the series at Fenway against Tampa Bay. Roy Oswalt (5-7, 3.84 ERA) is back pitching for Philadelphia, but is drawing a lukewarm reception from those betting baseball today. This will be Oswalt’s third start since coming off the DL and he is just 2-7 in his previous 10 outings. Most early bird sportsbooks released the Phillies at -160 and after considerable wagering; they are -140 or less. Philadelphia has a good number of walking wounded who are game-time decisions to face Livan Hernandez (7-11, 4.21). This is a good home/road matchup with the Phils 36-22 as visitors and Washington 34-24 as Nationals Park. 3DW Position – Philadelphia wins

MLB – Milwaukee at N.Y. Mets 7:10 EDT FSWI, SNY
Milwaukee heads to the Big Apple ready to take a large bite out of it having won 18 of 21 and building a six-game lead in the loss column over St. Louis. Despite this remarkable stretch of baseball, sports bettors are not drinking the Brewers kool-aid to open their series in New York. Milwaukee was dispatched as a -155 road fave and was lowered to -140 or less. MLB – Seattle at Tampa Bay 7:05 EDT RT, SUN
Seattle could not carry over the momentum from beating Boston last weekend and lost series to Toronto. Now they make the loooonng flight to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays. Felix Hernandez (11-10, 3.38) gets the call for the Mariners and is 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA in eight starts vs. Tampa Bay. He’ll match pitches with Wade Davis (8-7, 4.60), who has a 5.93 ERA over his last five starts. The situation would appear to favor the M’s; however they have plunged from -130 to -115 or less favorites. A potentially solid reason to play the underdog is Davis and friends are is 11-2 playing against a team with a losing record this season. 3DW Position – Tampa Bay wins

NFL– Arizona at Green Bay 8:00 EDT (TV in local markets)
The Packers make their first official showing at Lambeau Field since being crowned Super Bowl champions. Green Bay is being reported as playing its regulars longer then Arizona; nonetheless the Pack giving a touchdown was deemed too much and the number has been adjusted to -5. The Cardinals backups were fairly impressive against Oakland in pulling last week’s game out and future’s bettors have shifted Arizona from 6.5 to 7 wins on the season. NFL– New Orleans at Houston 8:00 EDT (Saturday) NFL Network
Both teams are coming off above average showings and victories. The Saints on Tuesday morning were -2 road underdogs, but by Wednesday afternoon were 1.5-point favorites. Both teams’ regulars are presumed to be in close to the two minute warning of the first half, but New Orleans has one distinct advantage. The Saints are playing with eight days between games, while Houston just played on Monday, thus the motivation for the Texans comes into question. The D-Backs path is still fraught with danger heading to Washington, who just beat the Phillies in a series over the weekend. The Nationals are 36-25 at home (+12.2 units) and given the present state of both teams at this precise moment, Arizona has gone from a -130 favorite to -115 or less. MLB – Atlanta at Chic. Cubs 8:05 EDT FSS, CSN
Atlanta’s chances of catching Philadelphia is extremely remote, however they still have six battles left with the Phillies and if they can close the gap, they could make it interesting before heading into the postseason. A few weeks ago this looked like a slam-dunk series for the Braves, who have won 13 of 17, but the Cubs are not all quitters and are 14-6 since July 31, with two of those victories coming at Turner Field. Jair Jurrjens (12-5, 2.84 ERA) will make his second start since coming off the DL and is 0-2 with a 6.52 ERA in his last five outings, while his mound opponent Ryan Dempster (10-8, 4.61) is 3-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his last four starts. Atlanta opened as a -135 road favorite, but has been bet downward to -120 or less. Houston has won consecutive series for the first time since May 20-25 and goes after three in a row for a third time this campaign. The Astros will have to overcome impressive odds against them to win the opening tilt. Houston began the day at +180 and has risen to +195 or higher dogs in Colorado. Brett Myers (3-12, 4.72) looks for his first win in more than two months and his team is 18-43 on the plus side of the money line. The Dodgers will start Clayton Kershaw (15-5, 2.60) as they go after back-to-back wins in St. Louis for the first time since July 9-10, 2003. Los Angeles was cut loose as -130 favorites and have since plummeted to -118 or lower in spite of the possible Cy Young pitcher taking the mound. The Cardinals have stifled the Dodgers in 21 of 26 meetings at Busch Stadium and Kyle Lohse (11-7, 3.33) has regained his early season form being 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA in his last four starts. This is a very difficult call with how good Kershaw is and St. Louis having an 18-8 record after losing three of their last four games this season. 3DW Position– A very slight lean with L.A.

MLB- Houston at Colorado 8:40 EDT FSH, RT
Colorado tries for their first four-game winning streak in over two months taking on Houston again. The Rockies will start the prize of their trade of Ubaldo Jimenez, Cleveland’s top pick from the 2009 draft Alex White. The former North Carolina star was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA before being put on the disabled list back on May 21. White has had four good rehab assignments at Double-A Tulsa (1.65) and will make his Colorado debut. Seeing he’s going against the Astros, sports bettors moved the oddsmakers number on the Rockies from -150 to -161 or higher. It makes sense even with young hurler like White, as the Stros are 0-11 in road games playing against a team with a losing record in the second half of the season. 3DW Position – Colorado wins

WNBA – San Antonio at Seattle 10:00 EDT ESPN3.com
Two typically stellar Western Conference squads have been struggling as they get ready to face off. San Antonio (13-12, 14-10-1 ATS) has just two triumphs in past seven games, while Seattle (14-12, 12-13-1 ATS) has been on the losing end in four of their last six outings. Nevertheless, the Storm has been steamed from -6 to -7 having won six in a row over the Silver Stars (5-1 ATS) at home. Just when you think sports bettors are cooling off on the baseball scene, they hit it hard on Hump Day. They have significantly moved the numbers on nearly half the games on the board today. In afternoon action they chased Philadelphia from a -210 favorite to -190 or lower. Colorado went from -144 to -159 or higher and the Dodgers and Cardinals total was lifted from 7 to 7.5. Go figure, Oakland of all teams would beat New York at Yankee Stadium. With C.C. Sabathia (17-7, 2.96 ERA), the natural inclination would be to think how low can you go? However, the total has gone from 8 to 8.5 and here is why. Sabathia has allowed 10 hits in three of his last four outings and nine in the other and his ERA has gone from 2.55 to present total. Trevor Cahill (9-12, 4.17) is 0-4 with a 13.50 lifetime ERA against the Yankees and even he understands what those numbers mean, "It was kind of embarrassing," Cahill said. In the Arizona clubhouse, the feeling last night it was better to win then to worry about breaking out of their batting slump. The D-Backs scored only two runs (that’s nine in the last seven games), but Ian Kennedy and the bullpen made it hold up. Daniel Hudson (12-9, 3.83) will make his first career start against Washington with a 5.29 ERA in his last three outings. This combination of factors has baseball bettors lowering the oddsmakers opening line on the Snakes from -140 to -120 or lower. The Nationals have won six of eight at home over Arizona the past few years and would like to believe Livan Hernandez (7-11, 4.34) can continue his recent success versus the Diamondbacks going 6-2 with a 2.54 ERA in his last nine matchups. After going thru a miserable stretch, Derek Lowe (8-11, 4.73) is saving his place in the rotation. Evidently that is not enough for those betting on baseball as the smokin’ hot Braves are being given the cold shoulder, falling from -155 betting choice to -130 or lower. There are not many reasons to think sports bettors are on the right path since Atlanta is 10-2 in road games after a one run win and the Cubs are 8-22 vs. teams outscoring foes by 0.5 or more runs per game on the season. 3DW Position – Atlanta wins

As bad as the year as gone for Minnesota, they have hit a new low, losing two games in a row at home to Baltimore, who started the series with an 18-42 road record. Yes, the Twins have scored one or zero runs in four of their last five tries, but the combined ERA’s of starting pitchers Jeremy Guthrie (5-16, 4.55) and Kevin Slowey (0-1, 6.20) is approaching 11 runs. The battle D.C. is on tap for this national cable telecast. Similar to the expected weather, the money has been pouring in on one team, Washington, who has gone from a +6 underdog by the sportsbooks to +4. This line change has more to do with the willingness of Baltimore to go out and play hard. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan knows he has a short stack and is trying to infuse confidence in his club by winning these games and hopes it carries over into the regular season. However, the Ravens front seven is still among the best in football and John Beck and Rex Grossman are playing behind an offensive line that is like North Carolina’s Outer Banks, waiting to be battered by Hurricane Irene. If the Skins QB’s can get some protection, the Baltimore secondary is vulnerable, if not the Ravens will rain on Washington’s backfield. Keep in mind, when the spread has moved 1.5 or more points in a certain direction, the team it’s moving towards is 9-2 this preseason. 3DW Position – Baltimore covers

MLB – Boston at Texas 8:05 EDT NESN, FSH
After seeing his pitching staff smashed for 24 runs in two games, Texas CEO Nolan Ryan said his pitchers “have to suck it up in the dog days of the season”. The Rangers are in need of a top pitching performance to quell the Boston bats and grab a victory before the Angels hit town tomorrow. Baseball bettors are not certain Alexi Ogando (12-5, 3.30 ERA) can contain the hot-hitting Red Sox and Texas has slid from -171 to -160 or less favorites. Numbers play a big factor in the final game of the series. Boston looks good since the Rangers are 3-10 after allowing nine runs or more this season. However, the Red Sox don’t figure to keep scoring at this pace and are 2-9 after scoring nine runs or more in two straight games. 3DW Position– Texas wins

Tulsa (1-24, 11-13-1 ATS) has not won since June 18, that’s 19 games ago. Despite this basketball bettors have focused on the total in a contrarian way. The Shock has played six straight games Under the total, thanks to be last in scoring and shooting percentage in the WNBA. Nevertheless, the total has risen to 142 after beginning at 140.5. Since last season, Seattle has averaged 85.8 points per game in seven meetings with Tulsa. That leaves the Shock to score 58 points to cover the number, but the Storm’s mental focus is the great unknown. With football fast approaching, thought we would give you a weekend version of the Line Moves, since this will be the direction we will be heading shortly. There are games that as of Friday have seen significant change in the numbers, though neither of the two Friday NFL contests shows much change to this juncture. For those that cannot get enough baseball, Atlanta, Arizona, the Dodgers and the Angels have all been lowered by 15 cents or more as favorites, while Detroit has gone up 15 cents or more as the betting choice in Friday action.

NFL – N.Y. Jets vs. N.Y. Giants 2:00 EDT NFL Network
Because of Hurricane Irene, this tussle in New Jersey has been moved up five hours for the safety of the fans. Football bettors have focused their attention on the total, taking it from 37 to 35 in this Big Apple battle. As is the case with most games this weekend, the regulars will play a half or more before the substitutes are implemented. It will be curious to see if the Jets come out throwing against the injury-depleted Giants secondary, which has been torched for 286.5 yards per game. If the Flyboys are successful in throwing the pigskin, the Over comes into play. It’s curious to note the last two preseason meetings between these combatants have gone Over, with the five prior played Under. Tom Coughlin coached teams are 11-2 OVER after consecutive games with a turnover margin of +1 or better. 3DW Position – Play Under

NFL – Jacksonville at Buffalo 7:00 EDT Local Markets
A major shift in the line, as Buffalo started as one-point underdogs and being maneuvered to 2.5-point favorites. The Bills played both games on the road and managed just 13 points. The general consensus is the Buffalo offense can’t be any worse and it’s not like the Jacksonville offense is going to be like the Oklahoma Sooners, scratching out just 27 points themselves this August. The Jaguars will start David Garrard at quarterback, but rookie Blaine Gabbert has played like a rookie in game situations. What every bettor should be careful about is the Jags are 9-2 ATS as a road underdog of seven points or less with Jack Del Rio wearing the main headset. 3DW Position – Buffalo covers

NFL – Atlanta at Pittsburgh 7:00 EDT Local Markets
Atlanta has yet to scratch in the win column and Pittsburgh is off a good showing, which might be reason enough for sports bettors to change the oddsmakers position on the Steelers from -4.5 to -3. The Falcons really haven’t been sharp offensively in either contest and they have been picked on thru the air. That isn’t a recipe for success against a club like Pittsburgh. Arizona might have lost to Green Bay last week, but for a second straight week, they gave a good accounting of themselves. The Cardinals open the home portion of the preseason slate and would like to give the home fans reasons to buy those available season ticket packages. It’s hard to imagine San Diego is going to bring their best effort and the total has jumped from 39 to 41 with points expected. Philip Rivers should be able to score against a depleted Cards secondary, while Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald will attempt to have fans jumping out of their seats with excitement. NFL – New Orleans at Oakland 8:00 EDT (Sunday) NBC
The final contest of Week 3 is in Oakland and the total is being pushed. Most sportsbooks had this tilt at 37 points and the total has risen to 38.5. The Raiders defense has been beaten through the air and bulldozed on the ground in their two efforts, which opens up the playbook for New Orleans. The Saints were dreadfully sloppy in their loss at Houston and would seem to want a crisp performance before the regular season. Though new head coach Hue Jackson has talked about restoring the “Pride and Poise”, it’s looked like the same old Raiders so far. College football kicks off on Thursday and starting with the first week of the season, we will have an early look at line movement and another later in the week with the current updates. CFB – 9/1 Mississippi State at Memphis 8:00 EDT FSN
The Bulldogs have 15 returning starters, including QB Chris Relf from a team that averaged 29 points per game. The Memphis defense was shredded for 39.8 PPG last year and lack reinforcements. The total on this matchup went from 48.5 to 50; just keep in mind the last six meetings in Memphis have averaged 36.5 total points.

CFB – 9/1 Bowling Green at Idaho 9:00 EDT
These two defenses combined to permit 61.9 points per game in 2010 and though they will be more experienced this season, neither is impressing bettors. The total skyrocketed from 50.5 to 53.5 with offense believed to be the theme in Moscow, ID. The Vandals average score in last 10 non-conference clashes is 57.2 points per contest.

CFB – 9/3 Northwestern at Boston College 12:00 EDT ESPNU
There is uncertainty about the complete health of Northwestern QB Dan Persa from Achilles injury last season. That coupled with the fact Boston College can keep the score down with their usual fine defense, the total has catapulted 2.5 points to 46. The Eagles are 8-0 UNDER in non-conference action the past two years.

CFB – 9/3 Utah State at Auburn 12:00 EDT ESPN2, ESPN3.com
Taking the oddsmakers starting lines of Auburn by 21 and a total of 53, the Tigers would figure to knock off Utah State by 37-16. Digging deeper, Auburn is 13-2 OVER if they score 28 or more points. With the line makers painting this picture, football bettors punched the total to 56 points.

CFB – 9/3 Miami-O at Missouri 12:00 EDT FSN
Despite being outscored on the year, Miami-O won the MAC title and 10 games last season. They will have their hands full in Columbia attempting to contain Missouri. The action suggests the Tigers will score and the total was lifted from 44.5 to 47.5. The Redhawks will attempt for similar success as last season, when they were 11-3 UNDER.

CFB – 9/3 Akron at Ohio State 12:00 EDT ESPN, ESPN3.com
Ohio State always attracts a lot of attention, but this season even the casual football fan will wonder what will happen in Columbus. One thing that will not change is loyalists will still put out their money on the Scarlet and Gray and the Buckeyes have been shifted from a 31.5-point choice up to 33.5. Ohio State backers want to believe in coach Luke Fickell from the start and he doubt would like to be the coach in the years to come. Pasting the helpless Zips is a start.

CFB – 9/3 Kent State at Alabama 12:20 EDT SEC Network
Because it’s the Crimson Tide, Alabama began as -33.5-point betting chalk and ballooned to 37 big points. While this spread difference is probably a fair assessment in the talent differential of the two squads, the Tide are just 9-8 against the number when favored by 20 or more points since 2005. Keep in mind Nick Saban went to school at Kent State and might not be inclined not to run up the score.

Coach Dabo Sweeney needs a quick start as the Clemson alumni is getting restless with indifferent results (19-15, 17-15 ATS) the last few years. In spite of Troy being a threat, the Tigers from the ACC went two touchdown favorites to 16 points. Troy might only be 2-8 in road openers; however they are 8-2 ATS.

Notre Dame announced last week senior Dayne Crist will be the starting quarterback. Even before then, those wagering on football saw this confrontation as higher scoring contest, as the total leapt from 45 to 47. USF coach Skip Holtz returns to South Bend after being an assistant coach there with his father Lou and his average total score as an underdog is 48.6 PPG.

With Andrew Luck the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy; Stanford was altered from a 26 to 28.5-point favorite over Bay Area rivals San Jose State. Stanford will win, but they have a great deal of talent to replace and will this team play with the same swagger they learned under departed coach Jim Harbaugh? The Cardinal has history of indifference in this conflict with a 6-5 ATS mark since 1996 at The Farm.

Todd Graham takes over as head coach of Pittsburgh and everything in his coaching background suggests Pittsburgh will start scoring more points based on his track record at Rice and Tulsa. Those with the cash wholeheartedly agree and have elevated this tilt from 50.5 to 52 points.

CFB – 9/3 Indiana vs. Ball State 7:00 EDT ESPN3.com
It is a bit of a challenge to understand why the total has gone straight up from 52 to 55. Both Hoosier State universities have new coaches and no matter what kind of success they’ve had in the past, there is a period of adjustment. Possibly the oddsmakers overreacted to this since the previous get-together’s the total was in the low 60’s.

CFB – 9/3 Rice at Texas 8:00 EDT Longhorn Network
For all the talk about hatred for the school from Austin, the Longhorns have plenty to prove after a 5-7 season. The Longhorns were sent out as 20-point faves and have been adjusted to 24. Texas is 8-0 and 6-2 ATS the past 18 years at Memorial Stadium vs. Rice, with the Owls 4-13 ATS as an underdog of 21.5 to 31.

CFB – 9/3 Oregon vs. LSU 8:00 EDT ABC
The most anticipated contest of the opening weekend is in Dallas, with these two highly ranked clubs. Oregon was a -2.5 betting choice, however sharps have wondered if the Ducks will have similar issues blocking SEC defensive linemen like they did against Auburn and the line has slid to a Pick. LSU losing starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson has football bettor’s back-tracking and Oregon is now listed at -1.

CFB – 9/4 SMU at Texas A&M 7:30 EDT FSN
Both Lone Star state schools bring back 10 offensive starters, at least setting up the potential for offensive fireworks. Football bettors nodded in agreement and pushed the total from 53.5 to 56. Bronson Arroyo (8-10, 5.02), after throwing like a batting practice pitcher most of the season, has found a groove finally and has a 1.80 ERA in three previous outings. Atlanta should be well-rested having not played since Hurricane Irene started creating mayhem up the East Coast last Friday. Online sports bettors like the run potential of a Jair Jurrjens (13-5, 2.71) vs. Livan Hernandez (7-12, 4.36) matchup and lifted the total impressively from 8 to 9. It is a bit of a challenge to understand why the total has gone straight up from 52 to 55. Both Hoosier State universities have new coaches and no matter what kind of success they’ve had in the past, there is a period of adjustment. Not sure what will be more entertaining, the Oklahoma offense or announcer Gus Johnson doing the call at his new network. The Sooners offense is expected to be explosive, however Tulsa does return eight defensive starts, though they lack the kind of team speed the Sooners offer.
