It ended up being a very good weekend for sports bettors who picked apart the numbers with success. They will attempt to take some more of the oddsmakers money this week and have found what they believe are potential opportunities to enhance profitability. One such contest is Kansas City and Boston, where the total jumped from 9 to 9.5, however the money line moving from -275 to -300 on the Red Sox is hardly worth mentioning, unless you smell a Royals upset. MLB – L.A. Angels at Cleveland 7:05 EDT FSW, STO
It was a lost weekend of sorts for Cleveland, falling out of first place with two losses to Chicago. The Indians will look to rebound against one of the better road teams in the American League, the Los Angeles of Anaheim. Baseball bettors have focused their attention on the total as the number has collapsed from 8 to 7.5. Cleveland start Fausto Carmona (5-10, 5.63 ERA) has never beaten the Angels in nine starts (0-3) despite a sparkling 1.79 ERA against them. Carmona is 15-4 UNDER in home games vs. AL teams scoring 4.7 or less runs a game the past three years. The Halos will counter with Dan Haren (10-6, 3.10) and off their 9-3 beat down of Baltimore, are 14-3 UNDER after a win by four runs or more this season. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Pittsburgh at Atlanta 7:10 EDT ESPN
For the first time all year, Pittsburgh had to perform with pressure before big home crowds against St. Louis over the weekend and lost the series. Now they will have to see if they can raise their level of play further and it starts on the road in Atlanta. The Pirates offense has become increasing quiet, scoring only 2.9 runs per game in their last seven ballgames and going against Tim Hudson, the total has tumbled from 7.5 to 7. Two aspects to watch closely, the Bucs are 15-3 UNDER after five or more consecutive home games and Hudson is 12-2 UNDER in Georgia when the total is 7 or less since last year. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Houston at St. Louis 8:15 EDT FSH, FSMW (money line and total)
The Cardinals accomplished their mission of winning series in the Steel City and return home with the hopes of passing Pittsburgh this week since they start with Houston. Those betting baseball tore into the numbers released by the line makers, picking apart both. St. Louis has gone from a -180 choice to -200 or higher and the total has also risen from 8.5 to 9. The totals shift is because the Astros are starting J.A. Happ (4-11, 5.88), who owns a 7.62 road ERA and the Cards will send Kyle McClellan (6-6, 4.34) to the slap and he’s 0-5 with a 6.30 ERA since May 25. It doesn’t take a laid off NASA worker to understand the Houston’s 16-32 road record is a detriment.3DW Position – Play St. Louis and Over

It was another winning day for those placing diamond wagers and they will look to continue their good fortune with five more differing opinions from oddsmakers on Wednesday. Do not forget to review the MLB nuggets, which are 109-78, 58.2 percent on the season.

MLB – San Francisco at Philadelphia 7:05 EDT ESPN
The virgin money line that was sent out on this ballgame was -215, but what was when Barry Zito and Cole Hamels (12-5, 2.62 ERA) was still the pitching matchup, but since Matt Cain (8-6, 3.06) moved up a day, the number is a more realistic -175 or lower. The more telling number in this battle is the total, which fell from 7.5 to 7. Cain has a strong history of falling below the number with a 39-21 UNDER mark on the road when the total is 7 to 8.5. Hamels takes the ball with a 32-18 UNDER record vs. teams averaging 2.75 or less extra base hits per game, but the Phillies are 17-5 OVER having won four of their last five games this season. 3DW Position – Play Over

MLB – Kansas City at Boston 7:10 EDT FSKC, NESN
There was no shortage of runs scored last night at Fenway, as the teams combined to score 22 times. At this point of John Lackey’s career, just the mention of his name sounds like a high scoring affair and this matchup was released at 10.5. But the Red Sox right-hander has a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts and Kansas City’s Bruce Chen (5-3, 3.30) has been close to as good at 2.84 and the total has crumbled to 10. This is a tough call and you have two reasonable choices to make, either to bet Lackey or Boston. The Red Sox are 7-0 UNDER after batting .350 or better over a three-game span this season or support Lackey who is 13-4 OVER with the Green Monster over his shoulder if his club is off a win. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Minnesota at Texas 8:05 EDT FSNO, FSH
With 43 runs having been tallied in this series already, the total leaping from 9.5 to 10 would hardly qualify as a shocker. Minnesota’s Brian Duensing (7-8, 4.53) has had an uneven campaign and his ERA is six in his last three outings. The Rangers Colby Lewis (10-7, 3.93) is 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA in past seven starts, yet still maintains an unhealthy ERA of 5.31 at home. With Duensing 8-1 OVER throwing after dark and Lewis 9-1 OVER in night home games, it seems the line makers might have been correct. 3DW Position – Play Over

MLB – Chic. Cubs at Milwaukee 8:10 EDT CSN, FSWI
Carlos Zambrano (7-5, 4.70) is not the hard throwing young man he used to be with a powerful fastball and biting slider, but he still gets his groove on at Miller Park. Zambrano is 7-0 with a 2.40 ERA his last eight starts in Milwaukee, including a no-hitter against Houston in a relocated Astros' home game on Sept. 14, 2008. Against Brewers hitters in Wisconsin, he’s been nearly as potent with a 6-0 record and 2.85 ERA. The total has sunk from 8.5 to 8 with Zack Greinke getting by on reputation not results. Greinke (7-4, 4.84) is 11-2 OVER in his 13 starts this season and this one angle might be tell the story. The Brewers are 10-0 in home games after allowing three runs or less in two straight games this season with average total score of 11.3 runs. 3DW Position – Play Over

MLB – Arizona at San Diego 10:05 EDT FSAZ, CH4
The lone money line contest that has shifted significantly is this NL West tilt. San Diego was a -130 choice, but has plummeted to -115 or lower. Ian Kennedy for Arizona is 11-3 with a 3.22 ERA and his WHIP is 1.131. The Padres have had issues with starting pitchers who permit few runs and don’t walk many batters and are 2-10 at Petco Park vs. a NL hurler whose WHIP is 1.250 or better. 3DW Position – Arizona wins

Sports bettors are anticipating both pitchers will have their good stuff and dropped the total from 6.5 to 6. San Diego has lost the first two encounters of the series and is 38-16 UNDER in home games playing into double revenge. However, the Pacific Ocean air is less dense during the day and the Padres are 12-2 OVER playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season. 3DW Position – Play Over

WNBA – Washington at New York 7:05 EDT MSG
New York (9-7, 10-6 ATS) is in the hunt for an Eastern Conference title and hosts Washington (3-12, 4-11 ATS). The Liberty has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success against the Mystics in the Big Apple with a 21-6 and 20-7 ATS record in their history. That still isn’t enough for basketball bettors who have made New York an 8.5-point choice after they were a 10-point pick. Since Washington is next to last in shooting percentage (40.8%) and shooting percentage defense ( 47.5%), the Liberty have to shoot a little better than what the Mystics normally permit and they are in a great situation since they are 15-5 ATS when they make 49% of their shots or better the last three years. 3DW Position – New York covers

MLB – Baltimore at Toronto 7:07 EDT MASN, RSN
Toronto’s Carlos Villanueva (5-2, 3.40) is seeking his first victory of the month and Baltimore’s Brad Bergesen (2-6, 5.54) is looking to win back-to-back starts for the first time since last September. While both pitchers will try and place their teams in the win column, baseball bettors are at odds with the linemakers total and shifted it from 9.5 to 9. The Orioles bullpen isn’t very good and is worn out, but the Blue Jays haven’t been able to take advantage of this with a 17-7 UNDER mark vs. an overused bullpen that pitches more than 3.2 innings per game. The Orioles offense has tended to stutter on the fake grass and is 21-8 UNDER in games played on artificial turf the last two seasons. The one wild card in this scenario is Villanueva, who is 9-1 OVER in night outings the past three seasons. 3DW Position – Play Under

The Philly ace is 2-1 with a 1.45 ERA in four career meetings with the Pirates and is 17-2 as a favorite of -150 or more this season. (Phillies Record) Pittsburgh is much improved this year; however Philly is 19-3 playing against a marginal winning team (Win percentage of 51% to 54%) in the second half of the season since last year. 3DW Position – Philadelphia wins

MLB – N.Y. Mets at Washington 7:05 EDT SNY, MASN2
If the name Chien-Ming Wang sounds familiar, he was two-time 19-game winner for the Yankees before suffering a torn capsule in his right shoulder. Almost 25 months later, Wang is back pitching in the big leagues with Washington. He’ll be limited to 80-90 pitches in his debut, but the way the New York Mets are swinging the lumber, he might not last that long and the oddsmakers total of 8.5 crept up to 9. The Mets scored 30 runs in sweeping Cincinnati in four straight and will look to continue their hot-hitting in D.C. New York hung on to win 10-9 triumph yesterday and is 20-9 OVER after scoring eight runs or more. They will send Dillon Gee (9-3, 3.75) to the mound and the Nationals are 19-9 OVER vs. a NL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.250 or better this season. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Chic. Cubs at St. Louis 8:15 EDT WGN, FSMW
The St. Louis Cardinals are throwing newly acquired Edwin Jackson (7-7, 3.92) into the fray against the Cubs. Jackson will face a team he’s been familiar with in the Cubs over the past year with playing with the White Six and is 1-2 with a 7.77 ERA in four starts. Jackson’s mound opponent will be Matt Garza (4-7, 3.72), who has a 1.29 ERA in his last three outings and has struck out 20 batters over his last 21 innings. The total has proceeded downward from 8 to 7.5 with St. Louis 15-6 UNDER at home against division opponents in 2011. Jackson has thrown well in his previous two outings and is 21-8 UNDER having allowed two or less earned runs in his last two outings. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Minnesota at Oakland 10:05 EDT FSNO, CSCA
Have to be honest, not following the logic of baseball bettors here. Minnesota scored 23 runs in Texas, while its pitchers permitted 34. Oakland has been in a groove offensively, averaging 7.1 runs per game in last seven encounters, yet the total shrank to 6.5 after sportsbooks sent it out at 7. You can make a strong case the A’s Gio Gonzalez (9-7, 2.67) will pitch well since he has a 1.87 ERA at home. However, Francisco Liriano (6-8, 4.82) can be tasered by opposing hitters and has 6.29 ERA over five career starts in Oakland. In their own ballpark, the Athletics are 14-5 OVER vs. AL teams scoring 4.2 or less runs a game this year. 3DW Position – Play Over

With reports that San Diego could move their two best relievers and a strong offensive threat before the trade deadline, the Padres have toppled from a -140 wager to -125 or lower. The Friars do bring positives as starter Tim Stauffer is 11-4 against NL West opponents the last three seasons (Padres Record) and is 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA in his last four starts at Petco Park. Jason Hammel (5-10, 4.75) has improved with 2.95 ERA in past three trips up the hill, nevertheless he and his Colorado teammates are 4-10 vs. an NL team with an on-base percentage .325 or worse. 3DW Position – San Diego wins

If you have noticed, the money line differences have been fewer the last 10 days as oddsmakers have make it more difficult to play favorites and the choices for long shot underdogs dwindles with talent differentials and desire heading into the last two months of the season. Here is how the first day of the month starts out.


MLB – Cleveland at Boston 7:10 EDT ESPN
The Indians are 21-32 the last two months and a trip to Boston is not like a trip to Disney World. The Red Sox have won eight of 11 as they relentlessly press on and have scalped the Tribe in 10 of past 13 meetings at Fenway Park. Boston opened at -165 money line favorites and was chased to -180 or higher and Cleveland falls into a bad situation. Play Against underdogs with a ML of +125 to +175, having lost eight or more of their last 10 games, against opponent having won 15 or more of their last 20 contests. (19-4 L5Y) 3DW Position – Boston wins

MLB – N.Y. Yankees at Chic. White Sox 8:10 EDT YES, CSN
The Yankees battled and bruised Baltimore in winning the last three games of the series by pounding out 42 hits. They move to the Windy City and have their ace going in the opener. C.C. Sabathia (15-5, 2.56 ERA) is in every discussion for the AL Cy Young winner and is 6-1 with an 0.82 ERA in his last seven starts. With August having arrived, the big left-hander has been even better in winning 17 of previous 18 decisions this month. Armed with this ammo, those betting on baseball elevated the Bronx Bombers from -165 to -180 or higher. Is Sabathia beatable, sure, anyone is but he is 55-16 as a favorite of -150 or more. (Team’s record) 3DW Position – New York wins

MLB – St. Louis at Milwaukee 8:10 EDT FSMW, FSWI
Before the season began, these two squads were presumed to be strong contenders in the NL Central and though neither has been domineering, they are where most expected them to be. Milwaukee has the edge going into the series with their baseball-best 39-14 home record at Miller Park and Chris Carpenter (6-7, 3.68) opposes Zack Greinke (8-4, 4.50) in the series opener. Neither hurler has matched expectations; however both have been in better form of late, which has caused the total to cascade from 8. 7.5. Carpenter has a 2.74 ERA in his past three starts, but is 15-5 OVER in road games vs. a NL team with an on-base percentage .325 or worse. Greinke’s been even sharper with a 0.92 ERA in last trio of outings and has averaged over 11 strikeouts per nine innings. Nonetheless, the Brewers are 11-3 OVER when Greinke takes the ball. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Arizona at San Francisco 10:15 EDT FSAZ, CSBA
This NL West confrontation might not garner much attention east of the Grand Canyon, however first place is at stake as this series commences. Ian Kennedy (12-3, 3.22) takes the ball for Arizona and Matt Cain (9-6, 2.91) for the World Series champs. Kennedy is riding career-best four straight starts winning streak, compiling a nasty 2.42 ERA. Though Cain doesn’t have the W’s, he’s fancied a 2-1 record with a 1.44 ERA in his last four starts. Runs could be scarce in this series which is why the sportsbooks total of 6.5 was batted down to 6. The Snakes are 26-11 OVER as a road underdog of +100 to +125, while San Francisco is 17-6 UNDER in home games vs. a NL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.150 or better. 3DW Position – Play Under

Today is relatively quiet day given the available choices for sports bettors. The usual hubbub of activity has been quelled at least early in the day and not one American League contest shows much line movement at all. Let’s dive right in and see what minor disagreements we could find.

WNBA – New York at Atlanta 7:35 EDT ESPN3
Atlanta (8-10, 6-11-1 ATS) had their five game winning streak snapped at Connecticut on Sunday, as they make their push to get back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture. One of the teams ahead of them is New York (10-8 SU & ATS), whom they will host tonight and have a chance to gain ground on. The Dream has attracted the betting action, shifting from 4.5-point favorites to 6. Atlanta has been no dream wager with a 3-11 ATS mark at home after one or more consecutive losses. The Liberty does not ignite much enthusiasm either, after losing to Phoenix in last outing, they are 0-6 ATS after allowing a shooting percentage of 50% or higher the last two seasons. 3DW Position – Atlanta covers

The Brewers have fashioned a seven-game winning streak and have defeated St. Louis six consecutive times at Miller Park. Even with all the positive mojo in the Milwaukee’s favor, baseball bettors believe their luck will run out and the Brew Crew has dropped from -140 favorites to -125 or lower. Jaime Garcia (10-5, 3.14) is the principle reason with his 1.71 ERA over his previous four starts and could slow down Milwaukee who is 6-14 after batting .315 or better over a five-game span. The Crew might only be 11-13 against left-handed starters this season (3.7 RPG), yet how do you bet against a team that is 21-5 in division battles? 3DW Position – Milwaukee wins

MLB – Philadelphia at Colorado 8:40 EDT CSN, RT

MLB – L.A. Dodgers at San Diego 10:05 EDT KCAL, CH4
The Dodgers will look to add to San Diego’s home woes and go after their ninth win in 12 games this evening. The Padres are 22-36, -16.5 units at Petco Park, which is second to last both categories. In turn, San Diego has been demoted from a -135 favorite to -122 or less, trying to salvage one game in the series. The Friars continue to flounder and are 4-15 at home having lost three of their last four games in 2011. 3DW Position – Dodgers win

MLB – Minnesota at L.A. Angels 10:05 EDT FSNO, FSW
The Angels have pulled within a game of front-running Texas in the AL West, but not everyone believes they can close the gap tonight. Minnesota in theory has the better starting pitcher in Scott Baker (8-6, 2.86), who is 6-2 with a 1.64 ERA in his past eight starts and has thrown 14 straight scoreless innings against the club from Anaheim. This gives credence to the Angels gliding from a -120 favorite to -107 or lower. It should be noted Baker is 0-5 with a 6.10 ERA at the Big A. Joel Pineiro (5-5, 4.91) will start Wednesday for the Angels and is 2-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 15 career starts vs. Minnesota and has never defeated them for whomever he’s played for at home (seven starts). Thursday once again gives us a shorter stack of games to work with, which includes a couple of afternoon events. The Toronto at Tampa Bay confrontation went from 9 to 8 in Clearwater and in the WNBA, the Chicago and New York total dropped to 147.5 at tipoff after being 150 on the overnight oddsmakers line. Here are the rest of the major line moves.

MLB – Chic. Cubs at Pittsburgh 7:05 EDT CSN, RT (money line and total)
For years the Pittsburgh Pirates have tormented the Cubs, no matter how awful the Bucs were. Finally, Pittsburgh shows signs of being halfway decent and they lose three in a row to Chicago at home. The Pirates will attempt to salvage one game in the series and wagering masses are not convinced they are the choice, as Pitt has fallen from a -155 to -142 or less. Pittsburgh tries to return to .500 and is 10-4 revenging a one run loss to opponent this season. The total also took a tumbled from 9 to 8.5 and even lower in some locales, which tells you how bad the Pirates offense has been, since they are going up against Rodrigo Lopez (2-3, 4.40). The Bucs have average 2.8 runs per game in past 16 contests and are 17-5 UNDER after scoring one run or less in 2011. 3DW Position – Play Pittsburgh and Under

MLB – Minnesota at L.A. Angels 10:05 EDT FSNO, FSW
The Angels being propelled from a -120 favorite to -170 or more, is strictly a function of Dan Haren (11-6, 2.89) replacing rookie Tyler Chatwood as the starting pitching. MLB – Philadelphia at San Francisco 10:15 EDT CSN, CSBA
Both NL division leaders made moves to enhance their chances of making the World Series this fall and they will have to chance to show one another their improvements in this four-game series. The opening tilt has a confrontation of lefthanders, as Cliff Lee (10-7, 3.14) will match tosses with Madison Bumgarner (6-10, 3.80). The vast majority of sportsbooks sent this contest out at 6.5 and baseball bettors have dragged it down to 6. Both teams have been excellent facing southpaws (Phillies 19-9, Giants 20-9), yet it doesn’t tell the whole story. On July 19, Pittsburgh was in first place and seven games above .500. Just two and half weeks later, they have toppled to third place and are two games below .500. The Pirates will look to avoid their eight consecutive defeat taking on the Padres. The Bucs quandary won’t have an easy solution as San Diego’s Aaron Harang (9-3, 3.76 ERA) is having his best year in some time and hasn’t lost since Pittsburgh clipped him back on May 4. Pitt was released at -155 and quickly dropped to -142 or lower. MLB – N.Y. Yankees at Boston 7:10 EDT YES, NESN
Somehow it seems fitting these two rivals are tied as the pennant races heat up in earnest. Boston is 8-1 over their bitter foes in 2011 and Jon Lester (11-4, 3.17) will look to continue his team’s and his personal dominance (8-1) over New York. Almost every sportsbook released this confrontation at 9.5 and bettors around the world helped lower it to 9. The Red Sox offense is the main reason why they are 24-6 OVER in home games vs. AL teams allowing 4.2 or less runs a game the last two seasons. Tampa Bay’s Jeff Niemann (5-4, 3.51) has been tougher to face than looking at that three-pound burger in the refrigerator today you tried to eat last night. Niemann had a 1.06 ERA in July (Rays record for a single month by starter) and he’ll attempt to continue his brilliance against Oakland. The Rays right-hander is 12-1 vs. teams averaging 0.75 or less homers a game the last three seasons (Rays record), which should be a good chunk of the reason why Tampa Bay has risen from a -150 betting choice to -165 or higher. The A’s has taken three of four over the Rays just last week, but have returned to their losing ways and are 18-38 singing the Willie Nelson blues. MLB – St. Louis at Florida 7:10 EDT FSMW, FSFL
This Florida team must like fans in the stands. The Marlins draw more mosquitoes than fans in South Florida and are 23-31 at home compared to being 32-25 away from Sun Life Stadium. For those betting on baseball, they are not certain Florida will show much life and shifted them from -140 favorites to -120 or less. Anibal Sanchez (6-4, 3.74) will take the ball for the Fish, but the team’s starting pitchers have an ERA of NINE in previous seven home starts. Florida has lost their last two games to the Cardinals and are 3-12 at home playing into double revenge. 3DW Position – St. Louis wins

MLB – Milwaukee at Houston 8:05 EDT FSWI, FSH
Houston is off just its second series win since just June 18, when they rubbed out Cincinnati on Wednesday. They will next face the first place Milwaukee franchise and are up against tall odds. The Astros began as +185 underdogs and have crossed into new territory at +200 or higher. Houston is a futile 19-37 at the Juice Park and they have not enjoyed much success against Yovani Gallardo (12-7, 3.69) with two wins in 11 tries. A.J. Happ (4-13, 6.01) will climb the hill for the ‘Stros and he and his teammates are 4-16 as underdogs. Here are Monday’s top offerings.

MLB – Chic. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 EDT CSN, MASN2
After being swept by the Yankees and having to go to their team “House of Horrors” in Minneapolis, the Chicago White Sox open their series in Baltimore feeling spry. Chicago beat the demons and swept the Twins at their ballpark to move to 31-26 on the road. John Danks (4-9, 3.90 ERA) goes for the White Sox and Jeremy Guthrie (5-15, 4.34) for the Orioles and the total has risen from 8 to 8.5. This is what you want to believe about both starting pitchers and teams. Guthrie is 13-4 OVER at home when the total is 8 to 8.5 and the O’s are 14-4 OVER with an on-base percentage of .285 or worse over their last five games. Danks on the other hand is 9-1 UNDER when the total is 8.5 to 10 and the Pale Hose are 14-3 UNDER vs. an AL team with a batting average of .265 or worse in the second half of the season. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Kansas City at Tampa Bay 7:10 EDT FSKC, SUN
Tampa Bay’s postseason hopes continue to fade with each loss. The Rays lost a home series to Oakland and are now 26-27 (-10.6 units) at the Trop. This kind of play is not a breeding ground for confidence and Tampa Bay has gone from a -175 favorite to -162 or less, even against Kansas City. The Royals are 18-33 as visitors and have only three victories in last 11 meetings in St. Petersburg. K.C. knocked off Detroit yesterday, but are 25-59 in road games after a win since 2009. 3DW Position – Tampa Bay wins

Arena – Georgia at Jacksonville 8:00 EDT NFL Network
The American Conference title is on the line and winner advances to the ArenaBowl championship game. Georgia (12-7, 9-10 ATS) has taken an odd route to the finals. The third-seeded Force benched their starting quarterback Brett Elliott right before last week’s playoff game against Cleveland and backup Darnell Kennedy did the job in Georgia 50-41 victory. Jacksonville (15-4, 12-7 ATS) led the league in scoring at 64.3 points per game, led by veteran signal caller Aaron Garcia, who has had a similar career in his sport to that of Dan Marino’s, leading a number statistical passing records, but no rings. Jacksonville is 9-1 and 8-2 ATS at home, but AFL bettors thought the oddsmakers were giving the Sharks too much credit at 10.5-points and moved them to 9 or lower. Georgia is impressive 7-3 (6-4 ATS) on the road, however the shift in points could work in Jacksonville’s favor as they are 8-1 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points and have won and covered both games vs. the Force this season. 3DW Position – Jacksonville covers

After a somewhat sleepy Monday, it’s been rise and shine time for sports bettors on Tuesday. The full slate of baseball games has seen six tilts in particular catch the bettor’s eye to do battle with the line makers. The total on Kansas City and Tampa Bay matchup has dropped from 8 to 7.5, with the anticipation of James Shields having a fine outing. In the WNBA, Atlanta has gone from a 2.5-point road favorite to four points over last place Washington, as they try in get in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt. Here is a look at the rest of the action.

Normally Gavin Floyd (9-10, 4.56 ERA) against cast-off Jo-Jo Reyes (5-8, 5.37) would sound like a good-sized mismatch. Chicago is seeking a season-high fifth consecutive victory, but baseball bettors are skeptical the Pale Hose can complete the task and have them from -150 money line favorite to -125 or less. Keep in mind the White Sox are 8-0 in road games vs. an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.500 to 1.600 over the last two seasons. 3DW Position – White Sox win

MLB – Oakland at Toronto 7:07 EDT CSCA, RSN
Toronto’s Brett Cecil(4-4, 4.35) continues to improve since his two-month stint in Triple-A and has a magnificent 1.64 ERA in his last three starts and is a large contributing factor for the total to sink from 9 to 8.5. Trying to add Oakland’s Rich Hardin (2-2, 4.63) into the equation is bigger challenge. In eight starts against the Blue Jays, Hardin has a 5.74 ERA and the A’s improved offense has them 16-4 OVER playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season. Toronto is 29-15 OVER after a day off the past three years and the Athletics are 19-6 OVER after batting .290 or better over a 20-game span. 3DW Position – Play Over

Two of the biggest disappointments in the National League will square off again and the underdog is the preferred choice early in the day. The Rockies have treated Cincinnati like Rex Ryan talking about his former defensive end Shaun Ellis, in whipping the Reds in 16 of 18 previous meetings. Colorado was a +140 underdog away from Coors country and has tumbled to +125 or lower vs. Cincy. The Reds have lost five of six and have their fingers crossed the Dontrelle Willis (0-1, 3.41) can find the win column for the first time in six tries. Willis throws to many balls to go deep into games and Colorado has been punishing bad bullpens with a 12-3 mark vs. pens that blow 38% or more of their save opportunities this season. Cincinnati’s only hope is the Rocks cool off since they are 2-9 with an on-base percentage of .393 or better over their last three games. 3DW Position – Cincinnati wins

MLB – Washington at Chic. Cubs 8:05 EDT MASN, CSN
These two teams were rained out last night and Washington decided to switch starting pitchers. Manager Dave Johnson has switched to Chien-Ming Wang (0-2, 6.00) and is sitting Ross Detwiler, which has impacted the line. The Nationals were a +120 underdog and have been pushed to +150 or more. Though it wasn’t scheduled, the Nats are 3-20 as visitors if they did not play a game the day before. 3DW Position – Cubs win

A meaningful series opens near the banks of the Mississippi as St. Louis looks to close the gap over first place Milwaukee. The atmosphere should be electric since last week’s events at Miller Park are still fresh in both teams’ minds. The oddsmakers total of 8.5 has drawn the most one-sides attention of those betting on baseball and they have chopped it down to 8. Neither Shaun Marcum (10-3, 3.58) nor Edwin Jackson (8-8, 4.11) has been effective in recent outings (both with ERA’s approaching five), however both have solid peripherals in home/road situations. In afternoon Wednesday action, they changed Philadelphia from a -140 money line favorite to -118 or less in the series finale in Los Angeles. Here is a look at the rest of what they choose to attack.

MLB – Detroit at Cleveland 7:05 EDT FSD, STO (money line and total)
Cleveland cut Detroit’s division lead down to two games in the loss column last night and will try to whittle it down further this evening. The Indians send Ubaldo Jimenez (6-9, 4.64 ERA) up against Rick Porcello (11-6, 4.49). Cleveland has won a dozen straight times over the Tigers at Progressive Field and Jimenez has expressed excitement about first start in his new home. Bettors are less certain and have altered the oddsmakers -150 line on Cleveland to -135 or less. The total has also been moved around, falling from 8.5 to 8, expecting the former Rockies hurler to be less nervous in his second start and noting Porcello has a 1.64 ERA in five starts at Progressive Field. Two angles to ponder, Detroit is 1-10 after three straight games with no home runs and they are 13-3 OVER after allowing four runs or less in four consecutive games the last two seasons. 3DW Position –Detroit and Over

MLB – Chic. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 EDT CSN, MASN2
Last night the money line was switched around, this evening it’s the total in Baltimore. The top reason the total was lowered to 8.5 after opening at 9 is White Sox starter Phillip Humber. The former Rice U. ace is 9-0 UNDER vs. AL teams scoring 4.7 or less runs a game on the season, with the average total score 6.6 runs per game. With Chicago 19-6 UNDER after a win by two runs or less, this could deserve a look. 3DW Position – Play Under

MLB – Oakland at Toronto 7:07 EDT CSCA, RSN
Contrary to the Sox and O’s, Oakland and Toronto concerns the money line on Wednesday compared to the total a night ago. The Blue Jays Henderson Alvarez makes his major league debut attempting to deny the A's a fourth straight victory. Alvarez was 8-4 with a 2.86 ERA at Double-A New Hampshire this season and has an upper-90s fastball and a strong changeup. He’ll go against Oakland’s Gio Gonzalez (9-9, 3.10). You might believe the Athletics would be a solid favorite here, but they have been transposed from a -120 betting choice to -107 or lower. This curious drop in the line should draw a Tim the Toolman “Uugh?” That is until you realize Gonzalez is 0-3 with an 8.82 ERA since his All- Star appearance and is 2-6 with a 4.27 ERA in 10 road starts. MLB – Milwaukee at St. Louis 8:15 EDT FSWI, FSMW
It was a thriller last night in downtown St. Louis and for the seventh time in 10 tries, Milwaukee knocked off the Cardinals and opened a three game lead in the loss column. In the middle game of the series a couple of journeymen starters are being counted on for another low scoring affair. Randy Wolf (8-8, 3.61) takes the ball for Brewers and Jake Westbrook (9-5, 4.83) will straddle the bump for the Redbirds. Sportsbooks sent this matchup out at 9 and this figure was punched early and often, dropping to 8.5. For whatever reason, Milwaukee has trouble scoring runs against pitchers like Westbrook and is 18-7 UNDER vs. a NL starting pitcher whose ERA is 4.70 to 5.20. St. Louis is 27-10 UNDER at home when the total is 8.5 to 10 since last year.3DW Position – Play Over

MLB – Chic. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 EDT CSN, MASN
The White Sox keep inching close to .500 only to fall back time and again. Last night’s extra inning defeat means to win the series they need a victory tonight and they will send out Mark Buehrle (9-5, 3.04 ERA) to nail it down. The Sox left-hander is 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA in eight outings. Somewhat surprisingly Chicago has slipped from a -145 favorite to -130 or less in spite of Buehrle and friends being 34-13 when the money line is -100 to -150 the last two seasons. Frankly, it’s hard to find many reasons to back the Orioles, including the fact they are 11-24 against lefties. 3DW Position – Chicago wins

NFL – Seattle at San Diego 8:00 EDT ESPN
The Seahawks will appear in the first national cable televised contest and for the first time in a decade, there will be a different signal caller. With the departure of Matt Hasselbeck, the quarterback battle will revolve around Tarvaris Jackson and Charley Whitehurst. Seattle made several key moves to their roster with free agency; however, what they ultimately will accomplish will be determined by what they get from their quarterback. San Diego has no such quandary under center with Phillip Rivers in charge, which leads directly to why the Chargers have gone from -4.5 to -3. San Diego’s needs preparation to return to being AFC West champions and that doesn’t include having to win exhibition games. Pete Carroll might have won a division title last year, but he knows that team was not very good and winning is still important with the number of changes in the roster. Seattle is 12-3 and 13-2 ATS vs. the AFC. 3DW Position – Seattle covers

NFL – Denver at Dallas 8:30 EDT (side and total) KUSA, KTVT
Coaches John Fox and Jason Garrett are running their first training camps under different circumstances and they will face off tonight. This is Fox’s first foray with Denver and he expects to give Tim Tebow a lengthy look and start to determine if the second year QB is really a starter in the making. Coach Garrett knows more what he has, but is going thru his first camp as the person in charge with a rebuilt coaching staff. Garrett will sit out a number of starters all together for a variety of maladies, thus the Cowboys going from -4 to -3 seems warranted, as the total sinking from 37 to 34.5. NFL – Arizona at Oakland 10:00 EDT KNXV, KICU
Kevin Kolb will make his highly anticipated debut in an Arizona uniform, albeit briefly, while Oakland has reportedly been reenergized with talkative Hue Jackson as the coach. Cardinals’ boss Ken Whisenhunt is from the Pittsburgh way of doing things and places little significance on games, thus the oddsmakers total falling from 33.5 to 32 would be expected. The only kink in the plans for that way of thinking is the Raiders are 7-0 OVER on grass fields the past couple of seasons. 3DW Position – Play Under

The start of football created a mixed bag of good and bad elements for the sports bettors. For Friday they have aggressively pursued a number of games that have seen serious line moves on many fronts. Among them was the Cubs and Braves battle having the total rise from 8 to 8.5 and the number on Colorado and St. Louis sank from 9 to 8.5. Here is a preview of the rest of the action.

MLB – Minnesota at Cleveland 7:05 EDT FSNO, STO
Cleveland kept themselves in the AL Central race by winning series over Detroit and looks to create momentum this weekend when they face Minnesota. The Indians opened as gargantuan -175 money line favorites at most sportsbooks and the number fell like Wednesday’s stock prices to -151 or less. I’d like to think there are a number of good reasons for this and the Twins get Justin Morneau back in the lineup, but Cleveland returns outfielder Shin-Soo Choo also. Justin Masterson (9-7, 2.71 ERA) continues to pitch well, but has never beaten Minnesota in seven starts (0-3). However, his mound opponent Carl Pavano (6-9, 4.71) is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in five outings since the All-Star break. Maybe it’s the fact the teams have traded roles compared to prior years, but the Twinkies still hold the upper hand having won six of nine this season and are 12-9 in last 21 at Progressive Field. 3DW Position – Cleveland wins

MLB – San Francisco at Florida 7:10 EDT CSBA, FSFL
San Francisco hits the road in second place in the NL West, having lost 10 of 13, while Florida has their own conundrum, having dropped seven straight at home, giving them a 23-37 record (-20.4 units, 29th overall) in South Florida. Maybe because the Marlins are on such a streak they are getting the love, but they are +110 or lower underdogs, after being +125 on the overnight line. Bettors are anticipating the right Ricky Nolasco (8-8, 3.86) shows up. Nolasco is 12-3 if his team is off three or more consecutive losses (Marlins Record). Nevertheless, there is cause for consternation since the right-hander and mates are 3-10 at home. San Francisco is still carrying around thoughts about the Buster Posey incident and has won 11 of 15 in Miami. 3DW Position – San Francisco wins

MLB – San Diego at Cincinnati 7:10 EDT CH4, FSOH (ML and Total)
Cincinnati’s Bronson Arroyo (7-9, 5.48) is a polarizing figure for this matchup. It can easily be discussed he is the reason why the Reds have gone from a -125 favorite to -108 or lower. But he can’t take any credit for the total to plummet from 8.5 to 8. As bad as San Diego has played, they are actually a decent road team at 30-30 (+9.5 units) and Cincy is just 6-12 in home games having won two of their last three games. Don’t ask me to explain it, but here is a good reason why the total tumbling makes sense. Offensive teams like San Diego, scoring 3.8 or less runs a game, against a below average NL starter (ERA range - 5.20 to 5.70), are 43-13 UNDER. 3DW Position – San Diego and Under

NFL – Pittsburgh at Washington 7:30 EDT KDKA, NBC4
How much does Pittsburgh care about winning football games in August, not much according to football bettors. The Steelers were sent out at -1.5 road favorites and as the game approached, all the money came riding in on Washington, who is now a 2-point choice. The Steelers have very little drama to contend with, while the Redskins have a quarterback battle with Rex Grossman and John Beck developing. Also, with Ryan Torian out with a broken hand, newcomers Tim Hightower and Roy Helu have an opportunity to make a strong impression. Washington has more urgency, needing to win and feeling good about themselves in a rugged division. 3DW Position – Washington covers

NFL – Tampa Bay at Kansas City 8:00 EDT FOX
In this nationally televised tilt, Jeff Foxworthy’s TV show “Are you smarter than a sixth-grader” would apply. Kansas City is 1-6 ATS in exhibition (Oops sorry Roger), preseason openers and under coach Todd Haley a perfect 0-8 ATS (1-7 SU). Tampa Bay began as +2-point dog by oddsmakers and was jettisoned to -2.5. This should be fairly entertaining affair, with both teams having good young players. 3DW Position – Kansas City covers
