Team USA's Maya DiRado, Melanie Margalis in 200m IM final field with Olympic and world champs.

CpYvv3RVIAEIPUA.jpg

Katinka Hosszu is readying herself to sweep the 200m and 400m individual medleys at the Rio Olympics, just as rival Ye Shiwen of China did at the 2012 London Games.
Hosszu won the 400m IM in world record time on Saturday night. On Monday, she won 100m backstroke gold and about an hour later raced in the 200m IM semifinal to advance to Tuesday’s final.

Though it wasn’t the fastest time of the night, Hosszu’s two minutes, 8.91 seconds is good enough for a berth to the final where she can try to lower her own world record (2:06.12).

Joining Hosszu in the final are both U.S. Olympic rookies in the field, Maya DiRado and Melanie Margalis. DiRado already earned a silver medal behind Hosszu in the 200m IM.
Ye Shiwen, after several years of poor performances, also advanced to the 200 IM final in fourth place.

Nico Hernandez defeats top ranked Egorov, moves on.....Great job Nico!

hernandez_qf.jpg

In a huge upset, American Nico Hernandez defeated Russian boxer Vasilii Egorov by unanimous decision. Egorov was seeded second by the AIBA, behind light flyweight Joahnys Argilagos (Cuba). Egorov was predicted by many as a favorite to win gold in the light flyweight division.

In contrast, Hernandez had a comparatively low seeding. He moves on to the quarterfinals on Wednesday. A victory in the quarterfinals would guarentee both Hernandez and USA Boxing a medal in Rio.
A few hours before the fight, Hernandez acknowledged he wasn't a favorite to win, but would "make the upset happen."

NBC gymnastics announcer Al Trautwig apologized Monday after suggesting during a broadcast from Rio that Simone Biles' adoptive parents were not really her parents. In a statement released via email by the network and reported in various news outlets, Trautwig wrote: "I regret that I wasn't more clear in my wording on the air ... To set the record straight, Ron and Nellie are Simone's parents."Ron and Nellie Biles adopted Simone and her sister in 2001.

Ryan Murphy (USA) HUGE WIN over fierce competition in 100m Backstroke

to win the Gold.

"beating a loaded field to win gold in an Olympic-record 51.97 seconds Monday night, the second-fastest time in history. Fellow American David Plummer took bronze."

This was among the best Olympic performances as in "Rising to the occasion on the world's biggest stage for your Event" of the games and not just these games but for Olympic overall.

Ryan Murphy rose and took it.

King settles score by defeating Russian Efimova, wins gold in 100-meter breaststroke

Lilly King of the United States won her showdown with Yulia Efimova after plenty of the bad blood between the two over the Russian's doping record.

After staring down Efimova in the ready room and giving her a look of disdain on the deck, King led all the way to take the gold with a time of 1 minute, 4.93 seconds.

Efimova, who heard a round of boos and a few cheers during the introductions, settled for the silver in 1:05.50. The bronze went to another American, Katie Meili, at 1:05.69.

King was critical of Efimova being allowed to compete in the Rio Games after serving a previous 16-month suspension for doping and testing positive again this year for the now-banned substance meldonium. Possible sanctions over a second violation were put on hold while WADA does more research on the drug.
