Get to know Conor Dwyer.
Conor Dwyer is an emerging freestyle star for the United States and won a gold medal as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2012 London Olympics.
Dwyer started swimming at age 6 because he thought it would be fun, but he also played hockey, baseball, football, basketball and water polo.
Dwyer came away from the 2012 Olympics with a gold medal from the 4x200m freestyle relay. He also placed fifth in the 400m freestyle individually.
At the 2013 World Championships, Dwyer asserted himself on the world stage, winning a silver in the 200m freestyle and two relay medals (gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay and silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay).
At the 2015 World Championships, he earned a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay and individually, placed fifth in the 200m individual medley and ninth in the 200m freestyle.
In 2011, Dwyer made the world championship team and earned a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
Dwyer won a gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2012 Olympics and also placed fifth in the 400m freestyle.
With his final win at the Santa Clara stop of the Arena Pro Series, he locked up enough points to win a one-year lease of a BMW and a $10,000 bonus for the third year in a row.
Dwyer has three brothers and one sister, and an event bigger extended family – who frequently supports him in the stands at major competitions – that includes 15 aunts and uncles and 35 first cousins. Every year for Christmas, the family plays hockey at an ice rink they rent out.
Dwyer has trained all over during his pursuit of making the Olympic team: the Chicago native started out at Iowa before transferring to Florida, then trained in Maryland briefly before settling in California.
