Not real sure of your story, but have an idea from lookin back on the Rx trying to find a way to lick this sport so i can hold my own around the calendar, cept for that depressing day in July when there is nary an event........... would they put up a fuss if you came around to say hello to old friends/family now that youre aging? Guess as long as you got money they could get to, they might

i really dont think about it all that much anymore. when i do it just get's me all pissed off again

with all the corruption going on in you politics and the political parties they go after someone they think is fixing sporting events. plus not even one that i had any involvement in was just passing info to everyone (which really pissed them off)

very happy with what and where i am. not going to live forever so just want to do my own thing the way and want w/o anyone fucking with me

Since the day I've seen this thread I was impressed by all the work. Now when I learn something new every day I'm more and more impressed about easy use of this data.
After I finish with beginning of last years thread and cover all my questions I'll start asking things I didn't learn and I hope pops will still be around.
I can't understand people being afraid to spend few hours daily learning for their own financial benefit.

nothing is easier than using pivot tables to ask the what if questions and get the answers in a matter of seconds

if you see anything that you would like to have additional pivot data for just let me know. one of the things i like to do are month and year todate right next to each other so that you can see trends much quicker. i've been adding a few each day as i use them

What was your level of knowledge with Excel and pivot tables when you began? Could you give a little more detail about the path you took to decipher Pops hard work and find what works and what doesn't. I know he says to just play around with it, but I need a mentor to guide me. Pops has been helpful in answering questions, but most of the time I don't even know the questions to ask.

to me the PDWS is my starting point for the next's day’s action and is set in stone and the basic for anything I do from that point forward. No different than if you start out the day to build a dog house. You get the lumber and tools you need first and go from there

1. Home and Away Difference of the starting pitchers ERA (col AZ than BA)
2. O/U era diff Col BK
3. ML Cat Home CAT col
4. Streaks Home and Vis (cols BE thru BH)
5. Any possible errors in my data which might have cause these number differences so out of a full schedule, and based on the above it will pull out a few games that I need to get other factors like
1. Weather conditions
2. HP umpire
3. pitchers record vs. opposing team are just a few of the thing I look at, that I start using my master data base and find other patters and trends.**
First I have to say that until recently I didn't know many of important stats in baseball. I was just casual viewer who knew meaning of few basic stats and that was about it. I enjoyed games but was lost when reading stats at ESPN site.

I tried to follow steps 1-4, you have all this in PDWS, and make my initial decision which game to pick. Not just for over/under but also to pick possible winners.

Then I'd go to http://www.wunderground.com/sports/MLB/ to check weather for possible O/U picks.

Third step was http://www.statfox.com/mlb/umpiremain.asp but that didn't always influence my decision if I liked what have I seen in PDWS if there were interesting numbers regarding ERA, WHIP, OU/ERA difference etc.

This was all done without touching pivots and I managed to score some good picks but that could only be beginners luck. However it gave me balls to go against some "consensus" plays and I earned few bucks.

Only today I decided to rearrange pivots on old Master file. You just need to drag and drop items on the right side menu and some things get hidden. So I learned how to get rid of confusing stuff and easily add only things that interest me and when I want it. Nothing more. Now next step is to learn how to use all info presented in Master which currently isn't useful to me but will be in a day or two.

And I didn't knew shit about Excel and was afraid to touch Master file not to fuck anything before I've read this http://spreadsheets.about.com/b/2009/09/26/excel-2007-pivot-table-tutorial.htm

Also start reading this thread http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=668752

First few pages contain stuff from pops 2009 notes file which was available for download in Excel file but actual thread is much easier to follow.

someone in the thread had converted it to a text file and was sending it to those that wanted it. my file size on text and word files size is very small and i cant upload to the rx servers like i can with my excel files

Thanks mizantrop for taking the time to help out. That's a good beginning. I've had a hard time finding someone locally to tutor me on pivot tables.
