Pops as I mentioned last week I went ahead and put 2008 data in a separate sheet, created some buckets, and did some pivots. I had to create separate buckets for home favs and dogs since the IF function is too limiting and I'm not smart enough to write my own code to get around it. So that means there are separate pivots for HFs and HDs as well. Anyway I also have OU buckets and buckets for the amount of the halftime lead/deficit and 1st hf scoring/2nd hf OU. I was really looking for 2nd half angles in doing this project. I actually played around with this last weekend plugging in games for second half OUs and had decent results, but that may have been just chance.

Not sure if this is of any use to anyone but maybe it helps somebody.

Had to upload this as an archive file as my file size limits are not as generous as yours...

always like to look at the way some people look at the numbers. never know when your going to find a new 20

tks

go to my mlb thread it has a bunch of VB macro that puts data into buckets. a man with your talent and resources shouldnt have much difficulty to steal a few of them and use them in yours w/o much problem.

enjoy

Dennis, I tried everything for a second half selection in CFB and came up empty. All the cbb tricks and more. Good luck. Will have to peak inside to see if you run a dif. angle than me.

For joining your formulas I generally use a concatenate if I spelled it correctly. A simple & sign between two completely separate formulas lets you lenghten your formula considerably. I run fav on one side of it and dog on the other. Just have to end your formula with a "" so if nothing qualifies you get a blank or you end up with false then the other formula kicks in.

thanks for the tip. I will try that.

One of the things I have been trying to do for 2nd hf is create an accuracy rating. In other words, figure out if there are games with certain characteristics where the books are more accurate or less accurate than usual on the OL and then take that into account with the first hf results to see which games are more (or less) likely to gravitate back to the OL. For example if you look at all totals for 2008, the books were only off by -.43 for all games, or -.41%. But in individual games the range is all over the place, and there were only 174 games out of 714 total where the books were within 10% either way of the total. Now if you can figure out any common characteristics of the games where they were off one way or the other then you might have something. But I'm still working on that.

Fennis if that is the route you are going to take this just might work. I tried this for bases with moderate success but never for foots. I would use a percentile ranking from A to F. C is the median, A would be the top 15 percentile, B would be 25, C is in the middle then 75 and 85. You could set them up as A being the highest scoring or vice versa. Got enough going on right now or I would do it. Then say for second half stuff you have say two A teams going at with A being the highest scoring teams in the league. Now they are below half the opening total see what pans out for the second half.

Kind of complicated but doable. If you don't understand pm or what ever they call it and will try to hammer it out with you. But kind of busy with the mans stuff at least for a couple days yet.
