Simply put, people don't know the odds of the games (nor do I guess they care). They are more than happy to drop their money off and come back 6 months later.
The sharper gamblers can tell you that games have deteriorated greatly with the consolidation of corporations. It is not because too many people are beating them, that is the myth they hide behind. It is because too many people are too stupid to know when they are being hosed.
