I don't mean to come off as a wise ass, but I'd like to mention the books and authors that I know of, that I enjoyed the most, in the different languages I have had the chance to read them.

English: Ulysses by James Joyce, a master piece that used the structure of the Homeric Odyssey as a contrast to the lives of the Dublin working class. I love the way the author manages the time throughout the plot, but above all I like his frank realism, especially crude for the days when the book was written.

Spanish: Too many great authors. But any book or short story by Jose Luis Borges. This author's perspective of life is so realistic, that it seems to be oniric.

German: Faust by Goethe. Although Schilling is a great writer too.

Italian: struggling with "Il Principe", by Niccolo Machivelli and "Baudolino" by Umberto Eco. I've read both books in other languages, but I'm trying to read (and understand most of it) in Italian.

Walk - Multilingual, who knew? Speaking of Homer, I am sure you are aware of the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou", which transports Homer's Odyssey to 1937 Mississippi. George Clooney plays a motormouthed Ulysses Everett McGill, jailed for practicing law without a license, escapes from a chain gang with fellow cons Pete (John Turturro) and Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) and embarks on an odyssey to reunite with his wife, Penny (Holly Hunter). Homeric parallels include a one-eyed Bible salesman (John Goodman) who beats the boys up and three sirens who "love them up." The cons also find time to record a song, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow," that becomes a hit. Great fun. imo.

BTW. I am on the Titans -1 -110. for a lot. I see the number going up in many spots. Still some 1 to be had though. Not to mention Pick -105 at Pinny.

Judge I agree Nelson nearly steals the film, no mean feat with that cast. Charles Durning was terrific as Gov. Menelaus 'Pappy' O'Daniel. The score a mix of bluegrass, gospel, and country, is a treat.

Judge is right, Clooney's other roles are not even close to his "O Brother" role. I've watched the picture several times, still laugh.

Go Titans. wil.

A Brief History of Time -- Stephen Hawking

Incredibly eloquent explanation of the physical universe as we know it today. It describes contradictions to Einstein's theory and makes you realize how little we know about the universe and ourselves -- truly sobering.

If you think you know a lot, read it and you will realize you know zilch (along with the rest of humanity).
