Doubt very seriously you have ever seen the face of true poverty.

Sorry for hitting a nerve.

The single mom with less than a high school education who has 4 children from 4 different fathers...magically can't afford health insurance.

Should we just keep throwing money at the problem? Or should society finally grow up?

Yeah, didn't think so...although personal decisions trump anything the government can do, reality just isn't sexy enough to buy enough votes for your morally bankrupt corrupt party.

Hey I know, Bernie Sanders has the answers!

Modern Democrats = Satan's minions.

Poverty is for losers - infantile rebels who don't want to play by the rules of common sense.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"By contrast, young adults who violated all three norms — dropped out, got married before 21 and had children out of wedlock and didn’t have a full-time job — had a 76 percent chance of winding up in poverty and a 7 percent chance of winding up in the middle class.

Ron Haskins, co-author of the Brookings study, looked at census information.

He called the results “astounding,” noting that it’s time to emphasize the role that personal decisions have on staying out of the poorhouse."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Astounding? face)(*^%

Ron, your idea is great, but also a sure-fire loser: it won't buy you any votes.

50 years ago, people didn't a Brookings 'study' to confirm the values they were raised with.

You know what's even funnier than this thread? The Venezuela thread...the guy who made 400k "for years" who suddenly found himself homeless the moment he lost his job. He's kidding, right? I know millionaires who've never come close to earning that kind of cabbage. If he ran for office on that sob story, I'd have a research team dig into every aspect of his life - every poor decision which lead to his pathetic riches to rags circumstances. There had to have been at least 3761.

As I already documented in that thread, the "system" (tax code, toxic govt programs on ALL levels) is rigged to reward the bad apples, rather than the people who play by the rules of common sense, which is why society (children born out of wedlock; the cycle of poverty etc.) keeps getting worse.

As for the truly unfortunate 1-2%, there are ways of helping those in need..none involve the federal government. Sorry for the killing the whole meaning of being a modern Democrats, but it's true.

Socialism is for losers - people who freely choose shortcuts, then fall on their asses and expect handouts from honest people who play by rules.

Punish success and reward failure - it only took the radical left 100 years to convince enough idiots that fucking up your life is not only a virtue, but something you should blame on your "greedy" neighbor.

:neenee:

You know what's funny, you took a conversation we were having about poverty and turned into one of your usual diatribes against socialism and modern democrats. I have news for you pal, I am neither a socialist nor a democrat. I am simply someone who understands that poverty isn't always a result of laziness and stupidity as you would like to believe. In fact, I agree with you that government often does more harm than good for poverty.

If poverty and govt dependency aren't for total losers who refuse to grow up, what exactly is your definition of adulthood?

If Peter's tax dollars are supporting Paul, then Paul, by any sane definition is a...DEPENDENT. Paul is a CHILD and should be treated that way - judged under the harshest and most realistic terms.

If you don't get an education, don't get married and have children out of wedlock, odds are you will end up as a Paul.

It's not complicated...it's common sense.

Nah, Jesus is more along the lines of “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?”

Ah yes, the modern Democrat's genius idea is to redefine Jesus' genuine, personal love for the poor as the same as their impersonal, coercive, compassionless, ineffective welfare machinery.

Laughable.

Reality check - God says:

THOU SHALL NOT STEAL!

13 “Therefore stay alert, because you do not know the day or the hour. 14 For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The one who had received five talents went off right away and put his money to work270 and gained five more. 17 In the same way, the one who had two gained two more. 18 But the one who had received one talent went out and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money in it. 19 After a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled his accounts with them. 20 The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, saying, ‘Sir, you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 The one with the two talents also came and said, ‘Sir, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more.’ 23 His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 Then the one who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Sir, I knew that you were a hard man, harvesting where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered, ‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter? 27 Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! 28 Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten. 29 For the one who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30 And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth’” (Matthew 25:13-30). 271

When Jesus comes back, he'll send me straight to Hell coz I'm not smoking a bong and listening to Bob Marley, as he instructed us to do.

Haha, Ya because I advocated helping the poor through ineffective welfare machinery where in this thread? I didn't. Pointing out that Jesus felt differently about the poor than you do isn't some endorsement for socialism. It's an endorsement for, you know, caring for the poor. Every discussion with you turns into such a cluster fuck because anytime someone disagrees with you call them a democrat/socialist and ramble on with your same garbage.

I agree with Judge that we should help the poor, I just don't think the federal government should be robbing people to try and make it happen.

Historically, it was the job of the church, and other social institutions - they did a much better job.

FZ, believe it or not I agree. It just pisses me off that Joe thinks he knows ANYTHING about the poor. Or the reasons they are poor. In truth, poverty in the US is just a shadow of what it is in most parts of the world.

I could not agree more. I think there are plenty of religious and secular groups that do a far better job helping the poor than the federal government can. I
