if the ref is in on a fixed match, he isn't waiting until
min 120ish of the match before getting involved.
incompetent probably, corrupt unlikely.
Yeah right lol, he saw an opportunity and took it... most calls in favor of Mexico, there was no foul play in the area of CR during the entire game, until that last play.
There is also a culture issue, it is known in CR that all central american citizens but people from Panama, have a beef with Costaricans, especially in soccer matches. Players, soccer media and referees from Guatemala, Salvador and Honduras (Nicaragua sucks big time in soccer) always find a way to fuck us. Just like tonight.
There is a majority of caucasians in CR compared to other central american countries, due almost total anihilation of the indian race and heavy european mixing. I admit there is racism in CR towards the rest of Central America, and we get our fair share of hate from them in return. They mock us and calls us the American Switzerland.
I thought it was the "Argentinians of Central America."
Agree, it was a shady call and with the current FIFA scandal, which very much involved CONCACAF leadership, it just looks bad. Let's be 100% honest, if the Ticos won the Georgia Dome would be about 10% full for the second game of the doubleheader vs Panama. Now that Mexico is involved, it will be a guaranteed sellout. CONCACAF needed those tickets sold to fund their salaries, operations, refs, etc.
So a blown call equals a fixed match? By that logic, 99% of all games are "fixed."
I don't agree here. You don't call a penalty in the dying seconds of a game unless it is absolutely blatant.
Any ref worth his salt should know that and adhere to that.
But it is what it is. Anyways, had they made it to penalties I probably could've taken the Mexican side and just watched an entertaining shootout and gotten paid $30 for the pleasure to do so with no risk.
