I totally agree on hyphenated BS !

Let's say Louis Johnson- Smith marries a Hispanic girl named Maria Alverez-Figueroa

Ok then you conceive say a son, and agree on the name Juan, or Steven or whatever
.

What is the last name, you can't have 4 freaking last names !

Steven or Juan Alverez-Figueroa-Johnson-Smith ?

That's just wrong !

well you can solve that by doing what we do in CR, the kid takes the first last name of each parent, so you would get Steve or Juan Johnson Alverez; in CR dad's first last name goes first and is the one passed on to the next gen, I believe that in Brazil is the mother's last name the one passed

Its not allowed period.

End of discussion.

Once again, " the times are changing" Same goes for racial crap. It's like. Since its 2019. All of a sudden people in the 70's and 80's were just not as smart.

I promise you Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are more intelligent than the snapchat guy and Zuckerburg

It would bother me

However my wife asked me if she could keep her maiden name ONLY when it comes to her career as her name is known. I told her it wasn’t a problem (and doesn’t bother me at all)

In that instance I wouldn't care. Or if I was her 2nd marriage and she had kids (I'm married, same wife both only married once so the point is moot). I have a friend that his wife uses that hyphen to me that's even worse. Feels to me like I sorta want your last name but not really...

in that situation its understandable, at work...but if your wife is refusing to take your name then you don't wear the pants and will always be led around by the ring in your nose like a bull, meaning you will have to do alot of bullshit she wants to do, watch HGTV, Lifetime network with her, bachelorette, chick flicks, birthday parties during the nfl playoffs, endless shopping and other woman bullshit that most men hate...hypen is the worst, she is not committing to you.

My wife is a teacher and when we got married she changed her name the next week when we got back from honeymoon and her name at school the next semester.

My wife took my name no problem AND she wears the pants haha. All good though b/c when it comes to kids, i'm fine with her steering the ship (and have me pay for the boat)

My take is she can keep her name, or take mine if she wants too, I'm not a control freak, any children that result should carry my name , not the hyphenated BS.

Many reasons for a woman to keep her name, for example she could be a realtor and a client from 15 years ago might try to contact her to sell their house, can't easily find her under a different name.

Just anybody from the past that wants to contact you , should be able to.

Perhaps her first name sounds ridiculous paired with your surname ?

She might have a horrible surname like Schitt or something and be glad to lose it ! It would be kinda weird if you got divorced and she kept custody of your name !

Would you guys take her name if that was the old custom ?

One thing that always sounded funny to me was a woman taking both of your names, as in

Mrs George Bush, instead of Barbara Bush

I think that practice is rare now !

Yes I would

In my opinion it means she's not 100% committed to you and the partnership between you two.

Others will say that's not the case but if not then what would be the big deal to change her name if you're everything to her?

Or she could use both last names if she doesn't have a middle name or substitute with it.

We know who wears the pants in your relationship. Are you a liberal?

This is such an "American" take on things lmao.
I'm not a liberal. And my wife isn't property.

Suppose my last name was Greathead, and my wife's last name was Steele. Who would want their wife to start calling herself Christina Greathead?

i’ve seen People change their middle names to their maiden names.

I also think its cool when married women ONLY use their married names and leave out their maiden names
