In Oklahoma there are something like 140 casinos on sovereign Indian land. They employ many of their own tribe members at the casinos. They are making a remarkable comeback led by college educated native Americans grads and lawyers. Maybe it is better in Oklahoma but the plight with alcohol is pretty much a non issue here right now. They have homes subsidized by their own tribes, their own vehicle tags, their own health care facilities, and they promote education for their young. I remember the old days 50 years ago and there was much derelict behavior much of it alcohol related but things have changed here. Many tribes were diverted to Oklahoma from other parts of the country but being a young state they evolved along with the state and local governments. I would say that native Americans in Oklahoma contribute as much or more than those who are not native American. I would say the drug use by non-native Americans is much worse than the alchohol problems that existed here a few decades ago. The Federal Gov sent them to Oklahoma to get them out of the way but they have succeeded in making a huge turn around when it comes to contributing to the greater society. Yes they have had some federal aid but they had to work very hard to get it along with the recognitiion they deserved.
They aren't getting drunk cause we give them money. You know how cheap it is to get piss drunk? About $ 8 - 9. My neighbors are white, about 40 years old and are piss drunk daily, hiding in the woods in -20 degrees drinking the cheapest beer and Vodka available. What's the answer? Stop giving them money and have them get a job. Well they get a job collect their check, then get fired cause they take their check and get drunk. Lot's of enabling too with family and friends.
How long should it go on? It shouldn't go on anymore. You are right about that, but your easy answer to the question is a stupid one
I will say this. As a whole native Americans have been treated much better than most conquered people in the history of civilization. Yes there was some abuse etc but they were reluctant to surrender and give up their land. We did not push them into poverty though. They did not have much to begin with and to survive they had to learn to adapt to the "white man's" ways. There was a period of transition but in the course of a little more than a hundred years the cultures have finally merged. Native Americans join our military and fight with us now. You also refer to "unwanted lands" but at least they got land and many are better off where they are now than they would have been had they not been transported. Yes they had little in the way of resources but they were resourceful and obtained enough aid along the way to get to where they are now. As far as heavy discrimination goes that was fairly short lived in the long run. All transitions take time. I would say native Americans have earned their way and paid one hell of price in the process. They are true Americans.

I couldn't care less what race they are, if they want to ruin their lives, that's their business.
If you want to live in a free country with limitless opportunity, you can't keep demanding the government drag everyone else down trying to stop stupid people from doing stupid things. It doesn't matter if we are talking Natives or white trailer trash.
There are consequences to excessive drinking and if someone is prepared to throw caution to the wind, so be it.
These are adults, not children...even though your Mother Hen Government Party wastes millions in propaganda trying convince enough equally stupid people that perpetual childhood is virtuous and justifiable.

I treat people the way they treat others and myself. When The Terrorist Loving POS Dave retracts/apologizes for his vile remarks, when the lying, insulting, arrogant Casper and Willie change their behavior, I'll change mine toward them. I treat you with respect now because you do the same, and I hope you are doing better coping with the loss of your friend.
I personally just don't like to categorize to that extreme. Every group has some losers and wackos but I can't lump all native Americans together to the point that I can classify them as drunks or losers. There are drunks and losers in that group and in every other group also. Maybe you just have not been exposed to native Americans who are contributors and leaders. Maybe Oklahoma is just different but my opinion is based on fact and personal experience not theory. But that's just me. BOL
For all you saying how Native Americans were oppressed and discriminated against, there were no other people discriminated against more than Italians when they first got here, but they dont blame that as a reason to be fucking deadbeat, loser, drunks who sit on their asses collecting govt checks. They worked hard and built this country to greatness. These other leeches should look to them as examples of how to respect hard work and this country.
