why is everyone so "outraged" with Ray Rice now?

Jeez...That must've taken a lot of restraint. Props to you for taking the higher road.

As far as the suspension I agree lifetime is absurd. He'll be back in a few years and if he was a more in demand player I'm not sure he would've even been cut (i.e elite QB/WR/D guy)

If he isn't eventually back in the league it is moreso because they don't wanna deal with the headache when it is a player of declining ability. Eagles took on Vick because obviously there was a lot of upside to that situation.

Really doubt he'll be back. His skills were eroding already, and now he will miss at least this season without the benefit of any team's facilities. Doubt if any team will want to test the PR problems that signing him will create...it would be Manziel or Sams times 2 with ESPN crews around him 24/7. Not worth it.

Like I said, I'm 99.9 % sure you guys have no clue what some African-American relationships are like or about, and you are making yourself look foolish (Honestly I mean no offense) to those of us who do know and have been around it all of our lives.

That's my last comment on the subject because it's like arguing with someone about a movie they've never even seen.

You are the one looking foolish by actually making excuses for this kind of action by saying African-American relationships are different. WTF?

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The debut of CBS’ “Thursday Night Football” broadcast was revised because of controversy surrounding the video of Ray Rice knocking his then-fiancee unconscious, CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said.
The debut game Thursday, featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore, was eliminating a track of Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” featuring Rihanna, McManus said. Other “high-energy” elements and a comedic one also were being dropped.
The changes were made to give the game coverage a more “subdued” tone and journalistic approach, McManus said.
The broadcast was to open with a report by CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell about Rice, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens after TMZ released the surveillance video Monday.
The footage has called into question how the NFL disciplines players involved in domestic violence. Earlier, Rice had been suspended for two games for the assault.
Asked if Rihanna’s own history as a victim of domestic violence was a reason the song was cut, McManus said it was among several factors considered but was not the overriding one. Rihanna was attacked by then-boyfriend Chris Brown before the 2009 Grammy Awards.
How the network will approach next week’s broadcast has yet to be determined, McManus said.
CBS Sports had previously announced that “Run This Town,” with added narration by Don Cheadle, was to accompany each of the 2014 broadcasts as part of an opening sequence that would be customized for each week’s game.

I can't believe his comments.

First that "she pushed her luck by picking a fight with him" even though first hand accounts say he spit in her face to start it all.

And second, to somehow justify the actions as OK or not as bad just because they are a black couple and their culture is more likely to be involved in domestic violence. I completely disagree with that logic. So does Hache's view change if Rice was white? Or if is his fiancé/now wife was white?

Dude, I just don't know. Maybe I'm just naive but there's just no excuse ever for a man to hit a woman.

I said I wasn't going to comment anymore.....lol. I respect everyone's opinion, but much like Hache I spent 13 long years in the ghetto and I mean that literally. Not trying to be funny. That culture is something most of you have never seen and know absolutely nothing about. I hate the fact that he hit her. TERRIBLE......I am a betting man and I would bet everything to my name that she has abused him a time or two in the past. Just because you are a 5'8" NFL running back doesn't mean punches to the face or fingers to the eyes don't hurt.

My first post about this a few days ago I had mentioned that what I typed wasn't popular. I get it, but I've earned my opinion.

What culture are you referring to? Are Ray Rice and his wife a part of that culture you're talking about? If so, how do you know?

That's why white police have to get ahead of this stuff and shoot at the first hint that these people might be up to something, right? They expect that type of treatment, being in that type of culture.

Looks like paul george gets it... probably because it's a cultural thing like hache and mr nba have been saying. Be open minded.. not saying to agree with it but acknowledge that there is a culture that exists that accepts this type of behavior

"I don't condone hittin women or think it's coo BUT if SHE ain't trippin then I ain't trippin.. Lets keep it movin lol let that man play!"
"I get it tho NFL.. You just don't hit women!"
"If you in a relationship and a woman hit you first and attacking YOU.. Then you obviously ain't beatin HER. Homie made A bad choice! #StayUp"

Yes many African-American relationships are far different than other ethnicity.

Many black women are not afraid to duke it out with their boyfriends or husbands.

In many cases, they are actually the aggressors over the males.

For any of you trying to tell those of us that know first hand and have been around it in our lives, you're wasting your breath because you have no idea what you are talking about & should have no opinion on the subject.

I don't mean this with disrespect or trying to sound like a jerk, but most of you have no clue...

And I don't mean any disrespect to you, but you didn't watch the video closely at all. You dialogue of what went on is completely wrong. I'm not making it up, its right in front of you.
Ray Ray was the complete instigator of that scene. Could she have done something prior to set him off, ofcourse, but I don't know what it is, do you?

Listen, my last Hispanic girlfriend of 5yrs slapped me a few times.
I would just sit there and tell her if it makes her feel better to do it.
She'd do it again, then feel bad about it later.
Let's just say she was young, immature, and VERY jealous.
Did it ever cross my mind to hit her back??
Of course not!
!

Right there with ya Hache. My Hispanic wife has done the same. Super jealous and super firey. Sometimes against her own good. she's only gotten in my face once and she's slapped me once after a super heated exchange. ...but I never once thought of hitting her back.

A number of women were wearing Rice's jersey last night at the game. Interviews:

“I don’t believe in domestic violence, but I will say: any woman who can hit a man, a man shouldn’t have to sit there and take the abuse. The abuse goes both ways.
“As a woman, she shouldn’t have hit him. If I hit you, I would expect you to hit me back. And that’s just how that goes.”

Also;

"There's two sides to every story," said Racquel Bailey, a 23-year-old waitress in Baltimore. "I saw the video. That's their personal business, and it shouldn't have affected his career. I don't agree with domestic violence, but she's still with him, so obviously it wasn't that big of a deal. Everyone should just drop it."

Some very interesting points and perspectives in this thread. Going back to OPs first point I absolutely share his view. We had a perfectly healthy able bodied young woman step in an elevator and then a sack of potatoes fall out of the elevator 30 seconds later. People really thought the video of what went down was a surprise? That is the MINIMUM I thought happened in the elevator. How could anyone think "maybe he was acting in self defense and the video just dispelled that?". He is an NFL running back, a woman of her size attacking him in a confined space would be like a four year old attacking the average male. Unless she was armed there is no way she could have been a threat to him and there would have been no need to knock her cold. Of course what happened was horrible and like Mike Vick RR and his wife ironically are going to pay big time, but the footage is not even 1% a surprise if you really look at the facts.
