Oldballgame,
I alomost forgot about him. He's the funniest clean comedian. I saw him about 20 years ago at the Trop. I went to take a leak during the opening act, and guess who I had the pleasure to piss with? Mr. Hope himself. Thanks for the memory.

Lurker,
I would now recommend paying to go see CarrotTop. He's worth the $40.

9 years later the funniest comedian is officially Louis CK. In fact, he's funnier than most people mentioned. Although I will say the OP is right on that John Valby is hilarious.

There are so many great comedians, but some of my favorites include:

Currently Working Comedians:
Louis CK, Dave Atell, Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Artie Lange, Lewis Black, Lisa Lampinelli
(Honorable Mention: Robert Kelly, Joe DeRosa, Amy Schumer, Ralphie May)

All-Time (at the risk of sounding cliche):
George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock*, Dave Chappell, Patrice O'Neal.
(Honorable Mention: Eddie Murphy before his family oriented movies)

*I know Chris Rock is currently working on some new material at the Comedy Cellar in NYC, but not touring.

MOST UNDERRATED:
The Late Patrice O'Neal (RIP)--Tons of talent and wouldn't give in to the system.

I guess I should have basically named every comedian from 1960 to present, but I love stand-up comedy and there are a lot of great comics out there now.
