Extra traffic does us little good when it comes to revenue

I disagree with that !

A site with no traffic becomes TOW.

RX needs traffic, IMO !

Why advertise at a dead site, from a book owner's viewpoint ?

Isn't this why EOG pays posters ?

My point is traffic itself brings no extra revenue - that only comes when some of that traffic actually funds an account at one of our sponsors by using our banners to sign up at the book first.

Natrually a lot of traffic is a good thing but we do not pay posters to attract it. Moderators are of course paid. JOH is doing a lot of work on contests and is compenated some also.

semantics, Wil !

A lively forum is a good forum, leads to discussion...

Even if it's threads like:

Can I paint my TV set ?

Anything that helps to create a lively discussion doesn't hurt, unless really offensive or racist, or just plain boring/stupid.

No question the more traffic the better but traffic itself does not generate revenue. I wish it did because we have a ton of it everyday. Our traffic numbers are real, when you see 7,000 online that means 7,000 different ips representing 7,000 different PCs are actually viewing the forum in one place or another. Tomorrow we may break another record, time will tell. Anymore breaking new records is getting to be old hat. My goal is to reach 10,000 online users at one time by the end of next football season.

Regarding off topic discussion, there is nothing wrong with it but "How to paint a TV Set" is less apt to attract gamblers as is a discusion about "when to play the moneyline in the NBA" would for example.

Randizzle was posting at Covers and apparently something caused him to leave the site (probably bashers) and he started posting here and brought a large contingent of followers with him. So large that it created a difficult situation for him to post his plays and keep them visible as our College Football Forum is extremely busy to begin with.

We decided to just add a forum for him because his thread from week 10 garnered over 62,000 views and 311 replies. He also caused The Rx.com to set a new online user record on a Thursday night something that as a general rule only happens on NFL Sundays.

Most users ever online was 7,639, 11-06-2008 at 07:34 PM.

Thread with 62,000 views.

Bottom line (just like we did with the service play thread) we gave Randizzle his own forum to reduce congestion in the College Football Forum which will see around 250 to 300 active threads today without the service play or Randizzle threads.

Randizzle is not being paid a cent to post here, he is just a popular poster who all of a sudden showed up and we decided a separate forum whould be the best way to handle the extra traffic. Once the BCS Championship game is over we will dismantle the forum and merge all the threads into the College Football Forum.

Extra traffic does us little good when it comes to revenue. What does help is posters using our sponsors to wager by clicking on our banner ads.

Those are the real facts of the matter. Speculate all you want but there is nothing underhanded or deceptive with the separate forum.

Thanks, wilheim

I'd say that 90% of the people that followed him over here are from Covers. I've had a few links sent to me this week, I can assure you that that's where most of his following is from.
