I can promise you that most people living outside of America have never even heard the words "Babe Ruth" in their life. There is not a single baseball player in the history of the game that has any name recognition in Europe.

Guys, nothing against american sports, I love football and basketball, even though the general quality oif the leagues has declined, I have nothing against said sports.

The more recognizable US player is MICHAEL JORDAN, even if retired he still is the living legend. Space Jam also helped him getting big across borders... hell I went to see that movie in the theater with my cousins when I was like 10.

Soccer is the biggest sport in the world, believe it or not... so most recognizable has to be one of the top players now. Messi, Ronaldo.

Past players were Zidane, Ronaldinho, Figo, Ronaldo (Brazilian), etc.

You are missing the point of the thread. It's about being most recognizable, not who is more popular or more known. Most non golf fans still know who Tiger is even though they don't watch golf. And Tiger is known all over the world as he has played in many tournaments over seas.
