not a joke!

swing a broom for 30 minutes a day. Just a good standard kitchen broom.

This will ensure the proper swing in a lot of differnet areas including getting rid of old baseball form!

In golf you really try to hit your right leg on the way down to draw the ball. Most people throw their right shoulder out and cut across and slice it.
A broom will help in areas of wrist, turn and follow though. It is also very hard to move your head while swinging a broom as well

Ok thanks for the help guys. But to answer one of your questions about my weakness, i have only played three times so i would say everything but mostly my putting and i slice the ball alot

When I first started playing Golf, I had the same thing with Slicing the ball.
Because I was a Big Softball player ( Played in 3 Leagues, 6 games a week )
I was trying to hit the Golf ball like hitting a softball, leading with my Right arm a little. It's a bad habit.

Anyway, you need to keep your elbow in more. This is what helped me, not that I'm that good. Plus I haven't played in like 5 years.

Best golf advice I received: STOP ASKING FOR TIPS & POINTERS!

Find yourself ONE golf book instructional (the Pennick suggestion is a good one) and just focus on playing. You see, people get too many tips at once, try all the 1000 things they heard and then up mastering none of them. You simply can't give each tip enough time to actually work for you if you keep on changing them! Just follow one instructional book and give yourself enough time to actually develop your game.

Also, too many people focus on the range and the driver. Forget going out and buying the latest $300 driver. Get yourself a good set of wedges and work on the short game. I almost always play on the chipping green, sand trap and spend very little time at the range.

This is the best response so far.

My advice is to not listen to ANY of the pointers given on this site (cept for me and Android), don't read any golf magazines or try to find anything on the internet.

Go to your course and get lessons from a pro. The ONLY way to get better at golf is to have a personal instructor.

period.

Solid advice. The WORST thing a golfer can do is get a golf magazine subscription. That will ruin your game faster than anything else out there.

Why does it seem the closer you get to the ocean, the higher the green fees seem to get? A round of golf at Myrtle Beach SC is much higher than a round of golf in the upstate. I guess the coastal courses are considered superior by those in the know.

Thats not always true. It all depends on the quality of the course and the reputation. Area I live in hosts 2 PGA and 2 LPGA tourneys a year along with plenty of amateur stuff including Q School. I'm MILES from any ocean and there's plenty of $150+ courses to choose from within 5 miles of me :)

find a good pro in your area and set up a series of lessons (4 mininum) at least a week apart from each other so you can practice what he tells you a lot between lessons. to find out which pro in area is good teacher ask fellow golfers who have been playing for quite some time or loe handicap golfers in area. big difference between good pros for selling, managing pro shop and good teaching pros.

you will get worse before you get better.

You know what, I think you're right about this one. The entire golf industry is just trying to cover up the broom swing secret. Telling a new golfer to just swing a broom is definitely the best advice. Professional help? Useless in comparison to swinging a broom. These pros like Tiger and Phil who have coaches are obviously complete morons.

Thanks for the advice.

Another informative thread at the Rx.

Bingo, take lessons. You always need a consistant swing thought and something to work on.

Shot 67 today. Hope my putter stays awake all year.

To correct slicing the ball if your a right hander turn your right hand palm to 9 o'clock facing your target direction instead of the palm facing the sky (12 o'clock).

Putting......must follow through to the target with the blade square to the hole.

These are just basic stuff.........

Bingo! If your slicing, it could be your grip as stated above. Give this a try. This should also help you get some air with your irons if you are struggling in that area.
