It's an 'x' now Doug.
The rule of thumb is Manhattan and the Bronx are Yankee land, Queens and Brookly are Mets land.

Long Island is heavy duty Mets territory.

Regarding Ct. the further north you go, the more Sox fans you'll find, further south more Yankee fans, with some Mets fans sprinkled in.

Regarding NJ, the unofficial dividing point is Toms River NJ.
North of that NYY oor NYM fans, south of that Philly.
Go to any local bar in Atlantic City, you'll see a sea of Philly caps.

As recently as last year, I remember reading about a study taken, almost 52 % of the state of Ct. that are baseball fans are Sox fans, as opposed to a little more than 48 %.
(given the choice of who do you prefer - Yanks or Mets?)

Also ABA cities set an example for the NBA.

Kentucky had a team once upon a time as well in the ABA.

... ANOTHER NOT HAVING 1 would be VIRGINIA --Virginia Beach area could support a team likewise.

Birmingham is a great answer.NFL would do well (if we had a stadium) Could easily sell out 8 home games if they drafted or signed some regional players.

The metro DC area is a horrible market outside of the Redskins.

Agreed. DC isn't the best sports town. Too many non-natives (non-native to DC, non-native to America).

Large population in the outer suburbs. Combined with the terrible traffic, people don't feel like driving to the Nats on a Tuesday night.

However..........Norfolk/Va Beach is in the metro DC area?

I actually think Norfolk/Va Beach is the largest market without a pro team.

They should all institute promotion and relegation, then any city of any size can have a team and teams like the Clippers, Lions, Raiders, Royals, Grizzlies, Bengals, etc., won't continuously suck ass while their owners rake in cash, trade away prospects and sit content finishing in last year after year.
