My wife’s uncle bought his home in Long Island over 50 years ago. We were talking about property taxes over the holidays and he asked me how much do I think he paid in property taxes.

I said $1k.

He laughed her and said around 15k
No question eastern Long Island AKA the hamptons huge summer resort so taxes off the charts . There are towns here with tiny schools and it would be cheaper to send kids to private then keep some of these public schools running but when your faculty is larger then your student population who wants to give up there golden goose. If my wife and I did not own our own business and do 60-70 percent of work don’t know how we would have made it here. My oldest son has caddied his hole life in addition to working for us and it’s ridiculous what these kids get tipped for a loop gives them a real false reality on earning moolah. A good weekend 4 loops 1k-1200 double bag. That’s crazy

Highest property taxes i've ever seen were $300,000. I think it was a $3mm home in Cook County. That's insane but if you have the money.

Lol no

Started by an argument with a buddy. I was approved for 750k but bought a 250k home and he says I'm an idiot because you only live once

Yeah I call bullshit on this. You pass yourself on with being intelligent yet one of your buddy's is a moron and thinks you should get a 750K mortgage in freakin Jeffersonville, IN because " you only live once"

In jeffersonville, a 250K home is kind of rare. A 750K home? Does 1 exist in Jeffersonville? Certainly doesn't in homeboy New Albany or any of the hick towns surrounding it

Middle of Wisconsin and I pay $10K a year for a "nice" home on 35 acres, $3K on 62 acres of hunting land and $5K each on 3 duplexes.

Not sure exactly what my property taxes are here in the PHX area. They are built into the mortgage so I don't pay them separately.

Bought the house about 4 years ago and financed about $270k. At 3.25% fixed for 30 years our monthly payment is $1,590. I'm guessing 2-3 hundred of that is property taxes per month. So pretty cheap here relatively speaking.

House paid off and you pay $300 a month for illegals birthing at the hospital?

US kind of sucks ass. House paid off...... and you're spending a yearly Caribbean vacation for the right for the government to slap your face after your house is already paid off.

The flipside is giving up the 750k beautiful home but being able to sleep easy at night is more important than keeping up with the joneses for me.

Not to pile on because I love me some Cruise more than anyone but you REALLY CARE what people you don't even know think about you on a gambling forum. I can't imagine what kind of a look at me loser you are with those you actually know. In all due respect Mr President.

Where did you move too? Didnt you live in Jeffersonville?

Let's put in this way. Havent lived there in almost a decade which is when the post was made that you're referring to. Guys on here are funny.

At that point in my life I was also single, no kids, and making about 40k a year. A lot changes in 7 years believe it or not

Something doesnt add up. $40k a year is $3,333 a month. Payment on the $750k house with 20% down is $3,500 a month. Zero chance you can get approved for a $750k house.
