1k is definately optimal DEPENDING on your style of play. If you like seeing pots, getting in with 1K is the way to go. Me personally I usually buy in for $200-$500 again, depending on bankroll and money at the table. $100 is not enough, your actions are very limited with $100.

I can tell you poker is the way to go if you wanna make money instead of sports gambling, I mean, gambling it's good but is delusional in most cases to think you'll end up profit, when you bet on sports lose what you can afford and always have fun. It's easier to master poker than sports handicapping , you don't need a bankroll as big, you can score big with low risk (way easier to hit a $5 tournament than a 12 team parlay IMO), luck is less of a factor (variance is more of a factor, depending on style of play) and there's always the chance to win a nice package to travel and play.

If you want to start reading some basic books I can recommend you a couple or even send you the link to download the PDF files.

nah ive tried poker. too high strung for that game. i like 7card stud though. in fact i think its more fun than hold em personally. thanks for the reply!

Np mate, thanks for asking. 7 card stud is fun, I know it well but never studied it, won big stud MTTs back in the day. I love HOSE (a variation of HORSE, that includes holdem, omaha, stud and omaha hilo). I hate razz.

I disagree

If you broke down all the tracker forums and everything there has to be more than 1 percnet in the green

Percentage of posters that lose that don't put plays in the tracker?
Percentage of posters that win in a tracker but chase like we all do and lose overall?

more than some of the low ball numbers in this thread, but a hell of a lot less than claim to be winners

there are guys that seem to lose every time I see them post a play that claim to be winning for years. Them there dots just don't connect

I'm much better now than I was years ago, and 2014 has been a very good year for me (mostly because of CBB, but I'm was a small winner in both MLB and NBA too. Football just started, down small.)

Long term, all the money goes back to the books

Short term, you get the illusion of winning for a few weeks until you roll it over and get buried by the big

I've never seen one rx member that loses $$$ on sports betting so I assume 99% of them are the winners.

Today's climate has made it tougher on many that did make money in the past. Many of those were so smart they won't play under current conditions as they were spoiled once upon a time.

I think you are considering winning to only be the guy that made thousands of dollars profit for the year.

If someone came out ahead 1 dollar they are winning.

I think we have plenty of posters that can pick more winners than loser. But I bet we have well below 5% that at the end of the year if you looked at their bottom line they would be down. You are winning so you press your wagers, you are losing so you press your wagers. No matter what you win, you want more. At least that's what I did when I gambled on sports. Too easy to bet online, takes 1 click but also too hard to move money. I've personally gone 8 or 9 wins in a row and lose it all back on a Sunday and Monday night game. Only thing in my life I really don't have any discipline on so I don't do it anymore (outside of once or twice a year in Vegas).

here's my take and opinion on gambling in general. the question i ask myself is, what would i need to win to be happy? what amount of money is substantial enough for me to say, you know what im good now, i can stop playing blackjack for the night or whatever game. ive yet to win that much that made me stop and my wife and friends think im crazy for not stopping when im up in a casino. which honestly, it seems like i am always up at some point using basic blackjack strategy. maybe only a hundred bucks at some times, but it seems that at some point i am ahead nearly every time i play bj. anyway again, my prob with casino gambling is taht i dont know yet what amount would make me say, you know waht ive won x amt of dollars so i'll call it a night.
