I think you have a team that at the very least makes the NBA Finals. I think they have a good shot to beat Brooklyn in the Finals too

You are officially on record. You picked the chalk (I'm shocked) to meet in the 2022 NBA Finals. And have LAL over BRK.

Noted. :)

That's fact. To act like you knew back then, what you know now, is dumb. And disingenuous.

You must not watch a lot of basketball then. Dwight Howard was always overrated. The only reason he even got to a finals in 2009 was because Turkey Glue and Pietrus and co. were raining 3 pointers throughout their playoff stretch. He faced little resistance that run aside from LeBron basically playing like God in that ECF.

"Prime Dwight Howard" doesn't net you championships. He just wasn't ever that great. Nash was washed up at that point. Kobe is not the type to elevate others the way someone like LeBron can. It was never going to be a championship team. It was a hard no on a title before they even stepped on the floor together

I predict they'll make the NBA finals. Have not predicted who will win the finals though. I do think they have a good shot to though.

Dwight Howard was always overrated.

I agree 100%. I never said he wasn't. I said he made 8 straight all-star games and at one time was considered to be one of the top front line players in the NBA. Did he have obvious holes in his offensive game? Of course. But he was a force in the paint and on defense. Those are facts. Not my opinion.

Compared to how much I used to watch, you are correct. I watched a lot of the playoffs this year, but in general I haven't really watched a lot of NBA for about a decade.

I watched enough to better predict (over you) how the Western Conference bracket would break this year though. :)

A good shot? What does that mean? You pit them slight favorites over BRK? Slight underdogs? Take a position here so we can use it against you later. :)

He was on defense and the boards, not really on offense. He got a lot of cleanup buckets. He was a force in the sense that he could go up and get rebounds. But I think saying he was a force offensively is implying that he had some sort of post game — which he did not

You combine this with Kobe being pretty overrated by that point, Nash well past his peak, and this was never going to end well. the Kobe element probably drove the price up way harder than it should. People struggle to admit it that he is at best a fringe top 10 all time. And by that point he was not at his best anymore either

It was a dreadful price

I will make a prediction, don’t you worry. I love the NBA.

Gonna wait til free agency pans out. I think Brooklyn should be the slight favorite until we see how the Lakers back fill their roster. I will say though that I like the alpha (Lebron and Westbrook) vs beta (KD and Kyrie) angle, so that may play a factor

Re-read the facts again if you are having trouble with all this. Facts, not my opinion.

You don't get voted to 8 straight all-star games. You don't start 6 of them. Without being considered one of the top front line players in the NBA. And the reason he was considered, was for his defense and dominant play in the paint. Facts.

We must be talking past each other. I didn't dispute his all-star game appearances. I said he basically had no offensive game, including no real post-up game. He basically couldn't score outside of 5 feet

He is an all-time great rebounder, which played a role in his scoring.

Yes. He used to dominate the PAINT. As I've said. A few times now.

The paint is a big area. Can shoot over 15 feet and still be in the paint if it's by the elbow.

Most skilled bigs have post up moves that can allow them to score from further out than 5 feet, which the majority of the paint is. He was very stoppable in the post, unless he got basically right at the rim

Now this is just getting stupid. Everyone knows when talking basketball, the PAINT generally means inside, near the basket. No need to keep up the childish debate about this. Everything I claimed about Howard (at the time) was spot on.

Make sure to stop back in here before the season tips off and make a stand with LAL or BRK to win it all. We need that on record. :) I'm out for now.

lol I know I'm giving you a hard time

Point being he scared nobody with his offensive game. He was just a big athletic force who was overhyped the entire time

Have a good one

Alright after today's signings I'm rolling with the Lakers officially. Great offseason for them.

You are rolling with the old men to win huh? Is the NBA starting a new senior tour/league for the Lakers next season? They might have a shot at that.

Hahaha

Yeah, I saw they may be the oldest team ever

They have a nice team though regardless

More 3pt shots, less physical style play, phantom fouls. With today's NBA style you can still be effective being old.

Yep and this team will be very effective

They got some nice shooters to compliment their core 3 too. This will be a good team. Not really a major weakness
