I'm surprised... pleasantly.
Riley says Moevao will start, and Quizz - despite his pleading - won't play

OUTSIDE THE MULTNOMAH ATHLETIC CLUB ... that blue blur you saw on Burnside at about 11:30 a.m. was me after I realized the Civil War Beaver Huddle was at the posh Multnomah Athletic Club, not the Rose Room of the Rose Garden, which was strangely quiet at 11:15 as I camped out at the door.
We saw coach Riley as he arrived for the SRO event. ... people were being turned away at the door. A guy sat outside, holding a sign that said, I NEED TICKETS.
Yeah, and I need lessons in reading press releases, but that's another story.
Riley said No. 1 quarterback
Lyle Moevao will star tomorrow's game, as we all suspected. But Pac-10 leading rusher
Quizz Rodgers is being shut down. His sore left shoulder simply did not come around, despite the prayers of maybe 100,000 OSU fans.
Was he ever close?
"No,'' said Riley.
"We don't want to put him out there at risk in any way, and I think he would be.''
Did Quizz try to convince Riley he could go?
"Oh, he kept trying,'' said Riley. "He said, 'I'm just re-habbing, coach. I just want to be ready.' But it was a group decision. It's not about one game. There's too much at stake in a deal like this. You don't want to see a guy play that has a chance to hurt himself further, and that is the case here. So it's pretty simple.''
Riley said Moevao, who missed the Arizona game with a sore right shoulder, looked good in practice this week. "He's healthy, and so is Sean (Canfield),'' said Riley. "So we're kind of at that place right now.''
That 'place' is having two good QBs who are capable of winning the most important game at OSU in 44 years if the measuring stick is the Rose Bowl.
I asked Riley if he wanted to play this game on Friday. "Today, or next week,'' he laughed. "It's always the same for me when I get to this day. I always want one more day of practice.
"But it's time.''
Finally, it is.
