Major questions unresolved as of today for Zona:
Very important info here that could most definitely affect the CMU game...

Arizona has issues

Ryan Finley greets his readers Monday with two big issues facing Arizona, which will face a better-than-you-think Central Michigan squad on Saturday.
Who the heck is the Wildcats' quarterback?
And what's up with the big names on the injury list?
Coach Mike Stoops will have a news conference today at 11 a.m. (PDT). He may announce who won the quarterback battle between Matt Scott or Nick Foles. Or he may not. The guess here is Matt Scott is 1A, but both guys could play Saturday.
As for the injuries: receiver Delashaun Dean (hamstring), guard Vaughn Dotsy (finger) and tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) have been out or severely limited all preseason.
The coaches have been saying all along that all three should be ready to play, but this one is a big "we'll see," most particularly for Gronkowski, the Wildcats' best player.

Good luck Conan. Love the PAC 10 totals. Looking like it could be a good year for some UNDERS.

Nice to hear from you again Pez.

I also appreciate your vote of confidence on the totals wagers, that being one of your own strong points if my memory serves me correctly.

I do believe you are quoting UW +8.5/LSU 1H.

Thanks for all your information Conan, (and UOwe) you know the Pac 10 and then some, far better than me.

Thank you.

I haven't bet it yet. I am assuming the number will be 1/2 of the line on the game. We'll see what it really is in a couple of days. Hopefully. Then I will make it official or perhaps even bump its value -- depending. I respect all the time Ducks has put into reading up on the Huskies this season. Far more than I have. I've been working on the WAC teams lately and maybe a couple MWC teams. Utah intrigues me because of their QB issues there. I will be interested to find out who Wittingham ends up with under center.

Both Scott and Foles are going to play. From the way it sounds they will probably get roughly equal time as well. This may end up being similar to the way the QB situation was for the Wildcats back in the Dick Tomey days when OJ Jenkins and the other guy (cant remember his name) both rotated in and out depending on the situation.

Also a little bird told me there is no way Gronkowski plays against CM due to his back issues.

It looks to me like Arizona has reverted back to their "no-name" QB system. Tuitama must have been just a glitch on the radar. Back to normal again with nobody of consequence under center. Ho hum. Apparently Arizona is not a dream destination for an aspiring HS QB to go. It must be very hard to compete for the best recruits when everyone that has played QB there has sort of faded into oblivion while playing in the shadows.

I think qb coaching is lacking under stoops. Tuitama developed quite slowly. With gronk out it severely limits that offense, he was/is an excellent relief valve. They will be running the ball a ton this early season.

Gronk's injury is some kind of godsend to the CMU side (under play too.) It was hard to believe it happened when I heard about it. Just a bruise, whatever... not the case. Throw in their QB issues and this one looks like a real grind. The Cats had better watch it.

I saw that Jake. I'm going to sleep on it for a night. I have no choice because I must go to Western Union to fund up 5Dimes. I was really hoping for 10 now I will be lucky to get 9. Grrr. 9½ at Bookmaker, grrr.

conan,

you dont think the cmu pass game can get over on zona? what about zona's pass game? cmu was ranked 118th in pass defense last year and returns a bulk of starters.

also that scott kid has wheels and isnt affraid to scramble (at least not in HS). he was in the same backfield as ryan bass (az st) and they ran all over people. when teams played the run he buried them with his arm. the under isnt a play for me, but with lefevour returning and cmu playing 6 games that were won by 3 points a less makes me like cmu.

gl on your plays

really like the stanford play

im personally taking sj state and ucla under also.

El Taino, I hear you. In my estimation, I don't think Zona will be firing on all 8 when they come out of the chute and hit the ground. Reports suggest that their offense has not yet begun to click in practice so far this fall. Now they are in game prep mode, ready or not.

I should also mention they have one of the best punters in CFB (Keenyn Crier) who typically buries the ball inside the 20. CMU's offense could have a very long field in front of them much of the night. Zona's D is also 3rd or 4th in the conference, no worse.

I think neither Scott nor Foles has thrown more than 55% completions in practice over the past 3 weeks. It's possible that Zona's offense could appear to be rather one-dimensional this weekend if they don't snap out of their funk in a hurry. I don't see anyone stringing together a slew of completions any time during this game.... except perhaps LeFavour.

Scott will not be asked to throw the ball much. It will likely be Grigsby and Antolin with 45 carries between them. No posession go to guy on 3rd and 8 and no Gronkowski in the red zone either because he has a sore back. Ground and pound all day long.

We'll see about Foles arm, perhaps, but I think sparingly at best. Dykes should bring his 2 young QB's along without asking too much from them. Both rookies may be susceptible to bonehead blunders. Both put up their share of picks during fall camp. Perhaps CMU's coverages will push them beyond what they can safely execute? Can't say. But it's not impossible.

PS... SJ is a gutsy move but Tomey's da man when defense matters. So Barkley is going to drive for 6 or 7 TD's eh? Well we'll see about that. Carroll would be wise to pull his starters in the 3rd quarter and let the 2's figure out how to score. I hope you hit.

UCLA under feels very strong to me too. SDSU may be sporting a new attitude with their new HC in this game. I sure hope so.
