That would be said correctly like this...

Conservatives believe in their own self-serving vision of God and use it to pass judgement on others. Liberals believe in the freedom of religion that our nation was founded on.

On a side note, who cares who believes in God, at least for us Americans, God is a non-issue in a political forum. Well unless you want be unconstitutional.

This simply means it's not the government's place to impose religion and should respect all religions. Nobody is saying that you can't be religious, I'm sure that some of the founding fathers very proudly religious having made the break from government imposed religion as in England.
So yes the government trying to impose a religion or trying to imply that christianity is the correct way or the American way does go against the constitution.
