The U.S. Women’s National Team will look to claim first place in Group G when it faces Colombia in its final first round match at the 2016 Olympics on Tuesday, Aug. 9 (6 p.m. ET on NBCSN, NBC Universo) at Amazonia Arena in Manaus. The match will be played in hot, muggy conditions with temperatures forecast to reach into the 90s.

The U.S. opened Group G with a 2-0 win against New Zealand on Aug. 3 with goals from Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan, and went on to win a crucial match against France, 1-0 with a goal from Lloyd.

Colombia dropped its first two matches, a 4-0 loss to France, and a 1-0 defeat against New Zealand. The USA is 16-0-1 in 2016, earning 15 shutouts while allowing just four goals.

Fans can follow all the action from #USAvCOL on Twitter @ussoccer_wnt and @ussoccer_esp, and follow the team along its Olympic journey on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat (ussoccer_wnt).

STORYLINES

USA vs. Colombia: The match on Aug. 9 in Manaus will be the fourth consecutive meeting between the USA and Colombia in a world championship. The teams previously faced each other at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a 3-0 win in group play on goals from Heather O’Reilly, Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd; at the 2012 Olympics, a 3-0 win in group play on goals from Rapinoe, Lloyd and Abby Wambach; and at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a 2-0 victory in the Round of 16 on goals from Alex Morgan and Lloyd.

Lloyd has scored in four of the five matches she has played against Colombia, only failing to score in the most recent meeting, a 3-0 win on April 10 in Chester, Pa. Christen Press scored once in that game and Julie Johnston notched her first WNT brace (the scoring of 2 Goals in a game). The USA also defeated Colombia 7-0 on April 6 as Crystal Dunn, Mallory Pugh, Lloyd, Tobin Heath and Press scored while Allie Long registered her first two WNT goals.

[h=2]Allie Long[/h]

Lloyd Keeps Scoring:
With her goals in the first two games of the 2016 Olympics Games, Carli Lloyd is now the only American to score multiple goals in three in separate Olympics.

Against France, Lloyd scored her 90th international tally and is 10 away from reaching the century mark and becoming the sixth player in U.S. history to score 100 or more. It was her 11th goal of the year, second-best on the team, and her eighth Olympic goal. She is now two goals away from tying Abby Wambach’s U.S. record of 10 Olympics goals. Lloyd has scored 27 goals in her last 28 matches starting with the Round of 16 game at the WWC, and has scored at least one goal in six consecutive world championship matches, which also began at the Round of 16 at the WWC against Colombia.

Tobin Heath, Brazil’s Favorite: U.S. WNT midfielder Tobin Heath has quickly become a fan favorite in Brazil due to her ankle-breaking moves and skilled footwork on the pitch. In Brazil, a country that lives to see the jogo bonito, Heath is delighting fans every time she touches the ball. Her presence on the field in the USA’s first two matches has been crucial to the team’s success and she has assisted on two of the U.S.’s three goals so far in the tournament. Heath has upped her assist total to six in 2016 and 27 for her career.

Onto Quarterfinals, so who’s next? With a win or a tie vs. Colombia, the USA can clinch the top spot in Group G and a quarterfinal match-up against the third place team from Group E or F. If the two third-place teams come from Group E and F, the USA would play the third-place team from Group E. If a third-place team comes from the USA’s Group G, the USA would meet the other third-place finisher, whether it be from Group E or F.
