Blah, blah, blah.
President Obama said he would not have approved the release of five high-level Taliban officials held in Guantanamo Bay if he thought the release threatened American security.
Blah, blah, blah.
Obama was speaking at a joint press conference in Poland Tuesday morning and was asked about the controversy that has erupted over the prisoner exchange that resulted in the release of POW Bowe Bergdahl.
"We have confidence that we will be in a position to go after them if they in fact are engaging in activities that threaten our defenses," the President said Blah, blah, blah, while explaining that the agreement brokered with the nation of Qatar included assurances that the activities of the released Gitmo detainees would be monitored. Blah, blah, blah. "We will be keeping eyes on them," Obama said while acknowledging the high recidivism rate of released detainees.
The President also addressed the concerns expressed over the wisdom of releasing the terrorists from US custody in exchange for Bowe, a man his fellow soldiers are calling a "deserter."
“The United States has always had a pretty sacred rule and that is we don’t leave our men or women in uniform behind,” Obama told reporters.
“Regardless of the circumstances, whatever those circumstances may turn out to be, we still get an American soldier back if he’s held in captivity, period. Full stop. We don’t condition that. That’s what every mom and dad who sees a son or daughter sent over to the war theater should expect, not just from their commander in chief but from the United States of America.”
Blah, blah, blah. Spike.
