again from wikipedia:

Release efforts[edit]

For months, U.S. negotiators were seeking to arrange the transfer of five Taliban detainees held at Guantanamo Bay military prison to the Gulf state of Qatar. The transfer was intended as one of a series of confidence-building measures designed to open the door to political talks between the Taliban and Afghan President Hamid Karzai's government.[SUP][50][/SUP] That move – at the center of U.S. strategy for ending the long, costly conflict in Afghanistan – was supposed to lead directly to Bowe's release. The Taliban has consistently called for the United States to release those held at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for freeing Western prisoners. But the Guantanamo transfer proposal, which legally required notification to Congress, ground to a halt when the Taliban rejected U.S. conditions designed to ensure transferred Taliban would not slip away and re-emerge as military leaders.[SUP][51][/SUP] Ultimately, the Obama administration agreed to the prisoner exchange allowing Bergdahl to be released on May 31, 2014.[SUP][52]

What a vile, subhuman creature Casper is. His irrational, insane hatred of the President of a Country he doesn't even live in, and can't vote in, should disgust every American celebrating getting a Soldier back after a 5 year ordeal. But of course, not in this Hellhole. Instead, Let's criticize Obama. Sick, sick people.

Another "great call" by the sewer rat with anger issues.

And to think he's labelled another poster "wrong way" because of some stupid election where the moochers outnumbered the producers. face)(*^%

If it wasn't official before, it certainly is now: The Guesser is a "terrorist-loving POS" because he's celebrating the release of 5 - count'em FIVE - of the world's most dangerous killers in exchange for a deserter who loved playing badminton with al-Qaeda.

Freed US soldier celebrated Xmas, played badminton with captors

Has this fratfraud-ball-sucking jackass ever been right about ANYTHING?

I see this as phase one of beginning to release prisoners from Ghitmo. It is politics as usual for our fearless leader. 1 Sgt = 5 Taliban leaders.

Maybe he realized that could have been his son unlike the marine being held in Mexico. Maybe that will be the next prisoner exchange. He shunned Congress and bypassed protocol, what's new. So killing bin Laden and getting Bergdahl free are his two biggest accomplishments thru two terms so far. Right. Maybe just a simple phone call to Benghazi could have prevented that attack when all is said and done. We could have made some kind of arrangement that might have saved four lives.

How right you are.

If Obama can’t close Gitmo because he has no place to put the detainees then the his next move will be to free them under the guise of a POW swap.

Where there’s a will there’s a way. Even if it means breaking the law.

At least he can't blame anyone else on this one. Maybe he was negotiating this deal when Benghazi was going on. Good grief.

Mullah Omar, the head of the Taliban, doesn’t make statements often. Omar is so reclusive that some have even speculated that he is either dead, or otherwise incapacitated in Pakistan. But on Sunday the Taliban released a statement attributed to Omar, who declared the release of the top five Taliban commanders from Guantanamo a “great victory” for the mujahideen of Afghanistan.
mullah_omar_2.jpg

The five Taliban leaders were undoubtedly among the most dangerous detainees held by the U.S. since the 9/11 attacks. Over the weekend, however, the Obama administration announced that they had been exchanged for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held by the Taliban since 2009. The Taliban had long demanded the exchange as a prerequisite for beginning “peace talks” in earnest with the U.S. The talks have thus far gone nowhere. And it says much about the Obama administration’s approach to diplomacy that the U.S. was willing to drop its preconditions for the talks (including that the Taliban renounce al Qaeda), while the Taliban stuck to its upfront demands.

"This whole deal may have been a test to see how far the administration can actually push it, and if Congress doesn’t fight back they will feel more empowered to move forward with additional transfers,” said one senior GOP senate aide close to the issue. “They’ve lined up all the dominoes to be able to move a lot more detainees out of Guantanamo and this could be just the beginning.”

Useless cunts, all of them.

I don't know Dave. It just keeps getting worse.

At the end of the brief event, the soldier’s father, Bob Bergdahl, recited the most frequent phrase in the Koran — “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim” —which means “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.”

After Bergdahl finished his statement and his praise for Allah, Obama hugged him.

The Taliban echoed Bergdahl, saying the trade happened “due to the benevolence of Allah Almighty and the sacrifices of the heroic and courageous Mujahidin of the Islamic Emirate.”

Obama response:

The White House did not take into consideration the circumstances in which Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl wound up in Taliban captivity when negotiating his release. Even, reports that he may have deserted.

The New York Post reports that a White House official said “Frankly, we don’t give a s–t why he left,” when the subject of his possible desertion was raised. “He’s an American soldier. We want to bring him home.”

There have been multiple accounts of Bergdahl's capture. Taliban commander Mulvi Sangeen claimed Be Paktika province. The US military denied that account, and in one of the hostage videos released during his captivity, Bergdahl said he was captured while lagging behind a patrol.

The Washington Post reports that Bergdahl is believed by many of his fellow soldiers to have slipped away from his platoon’s small outpost in Paktika province on June 30, 2009, after growing disillusioned with the U.S. military’s war effort.

Rolling Stone detailed several emails Bergdahl wrote home expressing murky statements that suggested he was gravitating away from the soldiers in his unit and toward desertion.

“I am sorry for everything here,” he wrote. “These people need help, yet what they get is the most conceited country in the world telling them that they are nothing and that they are stupid.”

Bergdahl also complained about fellow soldiers. The battalion commander was a “conceited old fool,” he said, and the only “decent” sergeants, planning to leave the platoon “as soon as they can,” told the privates — Bergdahl then among them — “to do the same.”

“I am ashamed to be an American. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools,” he concluded. “I am sorry for everything. The horror that is America is disgusting.”

But, according to the Obama Administration, none of this matters. He was worth five Taliban prisoners simply because they vowed to bring him home. “Frankly, we don’t give a s–t why he left.”

Nice.

[h=1]Fellow soldiers call Bowe Bergdahl a deserter, not a hero[/h]"I was pissed off then, and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war, and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

The guesser is a silly, laughable joke.

Sgt. Bergdahl's Father is a real piece of work.

Sgt. Bergdahl's Father Deletes Disturbing Tweet
"God will repay for the death of every Afghan child, ameen!"

In a twist to an already sordid story, a tweet by recently freed American soldier Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's father, days before his son's release, may prove to be damning evidence against the Bergdahl family.

"God will repay for the death of every Afghan child, ameen!"

It has since been deleted from his account, but not before it could be screen-captured. Now the Obama administration will have to add this to the mounting questions surrounding Bergdahl's release.

Other unanswered questions also remain regarding the details of Bergdahl's capture in 2009, as Michelle Malkin offered in a "flashback" Saturday at her site. There is also a 2012 CBS News report that pointed to a Rolling Stone article highlighting emails between Bergdahl and his parents saying he was "ashamed" to be an American. In another he writes, "The horror that is America is disgusting."

The Obama administration has its hands full right now. A lot has happened in just a few days: Shinseki's firing at the VA, Jay Carney's resignation, and now releasing high-ranking terrorists with his arms around the Bergdahl's. The days ahead will be interesting indeed.

Did not ever say I was not happy for he or his family. I am, wholeheartedly.

Just very perplexed why anyone would trade LeBron James, Bosh and Wade for one 5th round draft pick.

Makes no sense.

"Within hours, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid shot down Hagel’s optimism for reconciliation."

“It won’t help the peace process in any way, because we don’t believe in the peace process,” Mujahid said."

"Instead of portraying the exchange as the beginning of reconciliation, Taliban emir Mullah Mohammed Omar called the release of the five commanders a “great victory” and a “huge and vivid triumph.” The Taliban also published photos of the five released commanders as they arrived in Qatar."

“This huge accomplishment brings the glad tidings of liberation of the whole country and reassures us that our aspirations are on the verge of fulfillment,” Omar said, according to a statement released yesterday at the Taliban website, Voice of Jihad."

“It won’t help the peace process in any way, because we don’t believe in the peace process,” Mujahid said."

Lefty loons hear quotes like that and somehow twist the words into an outstretched hand. The Taliban did the trade because they figured it was to their advantage. To not slice off an American head these bloodthirsty animals had to believe they were getting something better. In other news Mujahed said, "Don't forget we also got the US' First Round draft picks from 2015-2021," and later was quoted as saying, "When the name Redskins becomes available, we'll take it!"

Uh oh...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A senior official confirms to Fox News that the conduct of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl — both in his final stretch of active duty in Afghanistan and then, too, during his time when he lived among the Taliban — has been thoroughly investigated by the U.S. intelligence community and is the subject of “a major classified file.”

"In conveying as much, the Defense Department source confirmed to Fox News that many within the intelligence community harbor serious outstanding concerns not only that Bergdahl may have been a deserter but that he may have been an active collaborator with the enemy…"

"Sources told Fox News that many officials in the Executive Branch are “quite baffled” by the White House’s decision to allow the president to stand alongside Bergdahl’s father this past weekend, given the father’s history of controversial statements, emails and online posts."
