oh, so he's out by choice.
too bad, he woulda been a contender.
Turns out there were many ways he qualified, so he wouldn't have needed to play a qualifier. Fedex cup points for one- he's 4th right now.He set up his schedule this year to try to qualify for the Ryder Cup in Valhalla in Kentucky close to his hometown. He is playing events that he has played well in the past. He also hates Torry Pines and hates the 36 hole qualifier he would have had to play to try to get into the Open so he never even signed up for it.

yeah, but he wants it for self indulgent reasons. Not at Torrey Pines. He has had lousy results there his entire career. Now people are bagging on him for dropping out. I don't have a problem with it and it makes me feel good to know we have at least one guy that wants to be on the team more than anything.

Tiger's injury creating big problems

The evidence simply doesn't add up: 51 days between rounds of golf for Tiger Woods; skipping the Memorial tournament, which he had planned to use as a U.S. Open tune-up; and that photo of Woods riding in a golf cart Wednesday for a practice round at Torrey Pines, site of this week's major championship in San Diego. It all leads the medical and golf community to speculate that Woods' injury to his left knee is more than he's revealing, and the April surgery -- described by Woods as a routine procedure to repair the meniscus, the floating cartilage in the knee -- is probably more serious. Maybe everything isn't "on schedule," as Woods has insisted.
What's your source?Angle,
Perry wasn't exempt for the Open and his win didn't get him in. He was signed up for the sectional qualifying and chose not to try to qualify so he could concentrate on making the Ryder Cup.
FWIW.... Adam Scott is supposedly nursing a broken finger so I wouldn't expect too much out of him with that rough.
