A couple months ago, I put a nickel on Oregon when they were +400 to win the title. I have several solid hedge options...could walk away with about $1,200 if I put the right amount on the OSU ML. I still might...but where's the fun in that?
Before OSU played Bama, I said on these very boards that I thought both teams were overrated. Bama's defense is not very good and they gave up a ton of yards/points to teams all season long (by their standards). It's hard to get a good read on Ohio State because the entire B1G is dogshit from top to bottom...rendering a lot of OSU's stats meaningless. The Buckeyes will not have faced any offense like what they are about to see on Monday...not even close. They could find their fastest players to try to emulate Oregon's offense in practice, and it still wouldn't help them a great deal. Part of the reason the Ducks offense posts pinball numbers so often is they are extremely difficult to prepare for...and by the time a defense starts picking it up, they find themselves down by 30.
The only game Oregon lost all year was when half their starting OL was banged up. Mariota excels at extending plays when he needs to, but even he couldn't do it that night against Arizona. Now that the Ducks are healthy again, you see how potent they are. I'm convinced Oregon will score in the 40s...I just don't know if OSU can keep the pace. Buckeyes ran Elliott up the middle on a simple zone read play time and time again, and Alabama couldn't stop it. Oregon doesn't have a physical Steel Curtain type of defense, but they do have a quick one...and that might be what's necessary to shut down Ohio State's offense enough to win. Think the public is overreacting to Ohio State beating Alabama...leaning towards the Ducks -6.
