Spartak Moscow vs. Celtic
12:00pm ET
This is the early kick-off match that is being played in Russia.
Celtic’s first match at home was a farce. I watched it and I couldn’t believe my eyes. This was an arranged draw between the clubs. Look Celtic had ZERO SHOTS ON GOAL all match and Benfica had TWO SHOTS ON GOAL. So the mighty Celtic’s home record still stands. It’s a fortress, yadda, yadda, yadda and the match was fixed. LOL what else is new.
Spartak Moscow’s match versus Barca could have been historic as they found themselves leading after 59’. Let’s be clear hear Spartak were out played and possession was Barca’s 72% of the time. Spartak’s only 2 shots on goal went in. They will be without Romulo today and their main keeper Andrew Dikan. However, Spartak have no less than 4 Brazilians and 2 Argentines and many European internationals including former Celtic Aiden McGeady who plays for Sprtak now and has 2 goals and 3 assists to date.
The match in Barcelona although they lost gave Spartak a huge boost of confidence as they have won their last three matches since (3-1, 1-2, 1-3).
It seems the ZERO SHOT ON GOAL DRAW versus Benfica boosted Celtic’s confidence too as they have won their last three since as well (2-0, 4-1, 0-2). In those three matches Celtic managed 11, No Info, 12 shots on goal in the three matches respectively.
How do you go from ZERO SHOTS ON GOAL to an average of 11.5 shots on goal? That’s because you don’t belong in the Champions League and the match was fixed for the draw. Benfica will win their home match as that is the pay back for the fix.
Celtic will not be able to arrange a fix in Russia. The Russian mob is too strong and Spartak will not comply. I doubt they would have gotten to the referee as well. They will be on their own and since Benfica and Barcelona are the two teams expected to advance in this group it will be up to the Head-to-Head matches between Celtic and Spartak that will determine 3rd place.
In conclusion, Celtic may feel mighty in attack in the SPL but they are toothless internationally. Spartak Moscow is too much offense for them. I looked a dozen times at this match and for the life of me I can’t see how Celtic will handle the Spartak offense and they certainly do not pose any legitimate threat of attack.
