Pegula set to be pushed to the limit
The Arthur Ashe Stadium order of play is out of this world. Before the likes of
Ons Jabeur and
Daniil Medvedev light up the night session, the defend men's champion and a blockbuster women's match get top billing.
No. 3 seed
Jessica Pegula will hope to fly the American flag to victory, but will have her title credentials given an almighty examination by
Elina Svitolina.
Ultra-consistent Pegula, targeting a sixth Grand Slam quarterfinal in the past eight majors, edges their previous encounters with a 3-1 lead. However, Svitolina's return from maternity leave in April has been nothing short of wonderous. The Ukrainian has already posted a Roland Garros quarterfinal and Wimbledon semifinal.
What a match we have in store.
"Elina is so tough,” said Pegula, who prevailed in their three-set clash earlier this summer in Washington. “I feel like every single match we play is always a really good battle, where we make each other play better.
"It’s great to see her back and playing at such a high level so quickly."
