If the Native Americas "Redskins" are complaining then I could understand, but so far I have not heard of any

I've yet to meet one offended by the term and I've dated women with Native American in them or fully Native American....Even the term "redbone" is more common in the black community here in Atlanta and usually refers to black mixed with Native American, or a Tropical Look, or mixed with latina to create a brighter look....Nobody thinks it is racist cause it usually black people distinguishing themselves as they have caramel, yellowbone, redbone, lightskin, and darkskin labels....Obviously, living in Atlanta for this long I have piles of experiences here to fully know this information as my hometown city.

Scott had a good point with The Devils. I am a very religious person and I find that offensive.

It doesn't matter if the Catholic Church finds it offensive, but somebody does so they should change it.

The name is offensive, its equal to a word that starts with N. Snyder may fight this all he wants, but in time he will have to change the team name. If Congress wants to get real nasty, they will start having hearings about stripping the NFL of its tax exempt status (which needs to be done regardless).

Are you a Native American?

They should change the name to the "White Skins" and give whitey a little taste of his own medicine.

Dude white people aren't cool. Change the name to white skins, honkies, or dego's and no one would care, but it certainly wouldn't sell.

It is obviously offensive otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation....

I say, if it is offensive than change the name... I get the "slippery slope" stuff but it is what it is...

I have Native American in me.......Not much, but I got Cherokee in me like many down here.....I'm offended LOL, although I'm alot more offended when I have a bet on the Redskins and they don't cover the spread.

I wonder what percentage of Cherokee it is to qualify to be offended or can I claim and represent one of my ancestors who had alot more Cherokee in their blood so I can start my own casino.

Would everyone just stop with the "I'm offended" bs. Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.

Call me whatever you want. I don't give a shit.

This is such BS....Harry Reid says he's not going to another Redskins game until they change the name. You would think
with all the problems we have in this country Harry Reid could surely find something better to do with his time.

But who judges if it is honestly offensive? If a person could get their 15 minutes of fame, then you could always find somebody who is offended at something. Where do we start? Where do we stop? Who gets to decide if somebody is really offended or who just wants thier 15 minutes of fame? Maybe I'm truly offended by the Devil name, or maybe I'm just trying to prove a point.

Who decides? Somebody who is in an appointed position by some politician who is just pandering and looking for votes perhaps?

Of course it is offensive. But we all face offensive things every single day in our life and don't make a federal case about it. Get over it.

What a joke. There aren't enough other problems in this country for the government to worry about? Oh yeah, they are fighting for gay marriage too.

Who is it offensive to?

The Cleveland Indians logo is offensive to me. Can we change that too?

This is completely outrageous. Who game the USPTO the authority to determine what is "offensive" anyway?

So does that mean the United Negro College Fund and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People should have their trademarks revoked?

Anyway:

Not all Native Americans oppose the term Redskins. Capital News Service identified three majority Native American high schools that use it proudly, including Red Mesa High School in Arizona.

“Being from Native American culture, [the term] is not derogatory,” said Tommie Yazzie, superintendent of the school district that oversees Red Mesa High School. He identified himself as a “full-blooded Navajo.”

Red Mesa High School is located on a Navajo reservation, and 99.3 percent of its students are Native American, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Here is a map of the 62 high schools that currently use the nickname "Redskins" As has already been pointed out, the name is in use on Indian Reservations.

The fact of the matter is that this decision has nothing to do with what is "offensive" and everything to do with useless government bureaucrats getting their rocks off in telling other people what they can do.
