Tuesday comp play is the Cardinals to even their series with the Reds.

It's been a real struggle for St. Louis on the road these days, and last night was no exception, as the Redbirds lost their 5th straight on the highway.

I like them to stop the bleeding tonight behind Adam Wainwright who happened to be on the hill the last time they won a game on June 1st when they blanked Los Angeles, 2-0 at home.

Wainwright is now 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA the last 3 times he has made the start. The Cardinals are also 7-3 the last 10 times he has started on the road.

The Reds will counter with Tim Adleman whose last home start saw him get lit up for 6 runs in just under 5 innings of work against Colorado back on May 20th.

St. Louis is overdue for a road win, and tonight they get it behind their steadiest pitcher this year.

4* ST. LOUIS

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Tuesday MLB Free Pick Atlanta Braves Run Line -1.5 runs +185 vs Philadelphia Phillies @ 7:35 ET - I am going for the big payback here as you can see. I know I could have Atlanta at roughly a pick'em price on the money line but by laying the +1.5 runs we get nearly 2 to 1 odds and we're going against the worst team in baseball. That's hard to not like especially when you consider that 12 of the last 13 Phillies losses have come by 3 runs or more! With 92% odds in our favor that a Phils loss comes by 3 runs or more, the main question is simply will Philadelphia lose Tuesday night and that appears to be an emphatic YES based on this pitching match-up. The Phillies will go from facing the Braves worst starter, Bartolo Colon, last night to now facing their hottest starter, Jaime Garcia, tonight. Garcia has a 0.42 ERA in his last 3 starts. As for the Phils, they'll have Aaron Nola on the mound and he is 0-3 with a 5.62 ERA in his last 3 starts. Also, Nola has given up 15 hits in his last 12 innings versus the Braves while Garcia has given up only 7 hits in his last 13 innings versus the Phillies. By the way, 20 of the Braves 24 wins have come by 2 runs or more this season. I love the nearly 2 to 1 odds here when you consider the pitching match-up and the propensity that both teams have for being involved in lopsided games. Free pick on Atlanta Braves on the Run Line -1.5 runs +185 early Tuesday evening. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

Play on: Blue Jays -120 at betonline

Play - Toronto Blue Jays w/Estrada (Game 971).

Edges - Blue Jays: Estrada 3.82 ERA and 1.17 WHIP away this season, and 6-1 away last seven team starts during June, and 2-0 versus A.L. West this season. With Estrada in strong KW form with 29 Ks and 4 BBs his last four starts, we recommend a 1* play on Toronto. Thank you and good luck as always.

DMack's Bonus Play for Tuesday, June 6, 2107 is on the Milwaukee Brewers

The Giants have lost four of five and go to war tonight with Matt Cain who has never been a mystery to Milwaukee ... 3-8 with a 5.01 ERA in 13 lifetime starts. Chase Anderson has turned the corner and pitching very well (4-1, 3.30) this year. This year Cain ERA on the road 8.28 while Anderson rocks a 2.12 ERA this year at Miller Park. Enuff said.

Tuesday's six-pack

— Predators 4, Penguins 1— Home team has won all four Stanley Cup final games.

— Al Pacino will play Joe Paterno in a movie that Barry Levinson is writing for HBO.

— Over/under for no-hitters this year at William Hill sportsbooks in Las Vegas is 3.5.

— There were seven grand slams hit Saturday, the most ever in one day. Mike Zunino knocked in seven runs, but probably didn’t even get on SportsCenter.

— 7 of Ryan Zimmerman’s 16 homers have come in the 8th inning or later.

— Apparently, the Cardinals wear navy hats on the road if they’re playing a team that wears red hats, like Cincinnati.

June good month/bad month MLB starting pitchers

After a series of fine starts, Lester was roughed up by Los Angeles at the end of May, which raised his ERA to 3.86 - but like the weather, the left-hander warms up and has experienced several strong June's.

You know the saying, “May flowers bring June showers.” For Major League Baseball pitchers hurling during the month of June, showers are hopefully not in their immediate plans. Instead, MLB starting pitchers hope to stay in the game long enough to avoid having to clean up early.

Listed below are hurlers that have enjoyed a two-to-one or better success ratio in team-starts over the course of the last three seasons during the month of June. On the flip side, we've also listed pitchers that struggle in June, winning 33% percent or less of their team-start efforts. To qualify pitchers must have made a minimum of 10 starts, with at least one start each June over the last three years. And for your convenience alongside each record we break down each pitcher’s greatest success or greatest failure rate either home (H) or away (A) within his good or bad month.

Note: * designates a categorical repeat appearance by this pitcher, maintaining status quo from last season’s June list.

GOOD MONTH PITCHERS:

Wei-Yin Chen, Miami Marlins (11-5, 8-2 H)

Chen was 2-3 this season before being shut down after his May 1st start. His right elbow received a platelet-rich plasma injection and there is still no timetable for his return from the DL.

Jon Lester, Chicago Cubs (12-5, 6-1 H)

After a series of fine starts, Lester was roughed up by Los Angeles at the end of May, which raised his ERA to 3.86. But like the weather, the left-hander warms up and has experienced several strong June's. And when pitching at Wrigley Field this season, opposing hitters own only a .179 batting average.

Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers (13-4, 7-1 H)

Baseball's best pitcher continues to shine and with how the L.A. Dodgers enter this month, Kershaw should pile up the victories. While Kershaw is still sensational, he's been plagued for the first time in allowing home runs, with 10 already surrendered.

Carlos Martinez, St. Louis Cardinals (9-4, 5-2 A)

After a really slow start, the Cards Martinez has lowered his ERA more than 1.50 runs and is back to typical career numbers. Quietly, his batting average allowed is at .217, compared to .244 for his St. Louis career.

* Anibal Sanchez, Detroit Tigers (8-4, 2-0 A)

With low velocity and sharpness to his breaking pitches gone, Sanchez has been sent to the bullpen with his substantial contract and only being used in mop up roles and even then his ERA is still at 9.00.

* Chris Tillman, Baltimore Orioles (12-4, 8-2 H)

Tillman started the season with shoulder woes and did not make first start until May 7th. After five starts he still seems to searching for location and command and he will be worth watching given his prior June numbers.

BAD MONTH PITCHERS:

Nate Eovaldi, Tampa Bay Rays (5-11, 2-5 H)

Still recovering from Tommy John surgery ant not likely to hurl this season.

Francisco Liriano, Toronto Blue Jays (3-9, 2-6 H)

The 33-year old lefty has been on the DL since mid-May with a bum shoulder and is scheduled to start for Toronto on June 2nd. Once possessing one of the best curveballs in baseball, age and injuries seem to be taking their toll.

* Shelby Miller, Arizona Diamondbacks (4-10, 2-5 H)

After a much better start to this season compared to last, Miller blew out his elbow and is another Tommy John victim.

Jeff Samardzija, San Francisco Giants (5-11, 2-5 H)

San Francisco has made few front office mistakes in the last nine years. After not learning their lesson about long contracts for starting pitchers like Matt Cain, they signed Samardzija to five-deal deal and are not reaping the benefits. There was a reason he was 47-61 BEFORE going the Giants and he is 13-18 with them.

Ervin Santana, Minnesota Twins (2-8, 1-5 A)

The right-hander is easily off to the best start of his career in 2017, pitching for Minnesota. He will enter this month with a 1.75 ERA (career 4.01), however, in past seasons after quick starts, Santana has eventually regressed towards the norm.

* Jered Weaver, San Diego Padres (5-11, 3-8 H)

With a 0-5 record and 7.94 ERA after nine starts with San Diego, the Padres placed this former ace on the DL. Weaver is a shell of his former prominence and the separation between fastballs, curves and change-ups, no longer fools batters. It’s sad to watch from a hurler who really understood how to pitch side-and-side and up-and-down without an overpowering heater.

WNBA Betting Recap - 5/29-6/4

League Betting Notes (Monday, May 29 through Sunday, June 4)

-- Favorites went 10-1 straight up (SU)
-- Favorites went 8-3 against the spread (ATS)
-- Home teams posted a 7-4 SU record
-- Road teams posted a 5-6 ATS record
-- The 'over' went 7-4

Team Betting Notes

-- Washington (5-2) has started to perform well lately after a slow start. The Mystics have won four in a row while going 3-1 ATS. It's a start contrast after going 1-2 SU/0-3 ATS over their first three outings.

-- San Antonio (0-7) continues its search for their first victory of the season, but they're still a respectable 5-2 ATS, including a perfect 4-0 ATS on the road. They'll be home for two this week, including home dates with Seattle (4-2) and Chicago (1-6). The game against the Sky on Saturday might be their best chance for that elusive first straight-up win.

-- The Sky have dropped four in a row and they're 0-4 ATS during the span, while going 1-5 ATS over the past six outings. The 'over' has cashed in three in a row, and Chicago has yielded an average of 94.7 points per game (PPG) over the past three.

-- The 'over' has connected in three in a row for the Storm. They have scored 81 points or more in each of their four wins, and they're 3-1 ATS over the past four outings.

-- Indiana (3-4) continues its erratic play, failing to cover in consecutive games this season. They also cannot win on the road, going 3-0 SU/2-1 ATS at home and 0-4 SU/1-3 ATS on the road. They have two games at home this week and one game on the road in D.C. on Sunday.

-- Phoenix (4-3) was tripped up at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon despite the fact they were 4 1/2-point favorites. The Mercury dropped its first road game in three tries, and they're just 1-2 ATS on the road.

-- New York (4-3) has won and covered consecutive games for the first time this season after a win against the Mercury. The Liberty have also been a friend to total bettors, as the 'over' is a perfect 4-0 over the past four outings.

-- Connecticut (2-5) has struggled to win games, but they're one of the most consistent against the spread so far. The Sun ave covered three in a row and five of the past six. They have a full week off before hosting Atlanta (4-2) on Saturday.

-- The 'under' has cashed in four straight games for the Dream heading into the upcoming week.

Tuesday night Bonus Play is the Red Sox as they open a big three game series in the Bronx against the first place Yankees.

A Boston sweep puts them atop the division, and while I don't know if they can sweep all 3, chances they snag the series opener look good to me as Drew Pomeranz opposes Masahiro Tanaka.

Pomeranz has been throwing it well for the Sox, going 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA his last 3 times to the mound, while Tanaka has been a puzzle for the Yankees, as the "ace" of the staff has looked anything but, going 0-3 with a 7.88 ERA for his last 3 starts.

Tanaka did blank Boston back in late April at Fenway Park, but it appears there is something awry with his mechanics as we head into the summer.

I am banking on Boston bombing him tonight to renew this A.L. East rivalry.

Take Boston.
