Any models out there yet on the economic ramifications of the shutdown ?

The economic crisis is the bigger one folks.. 22 million go on unemployment and counting.. Thousands and thousands of businesses destroyed.. Lives turned upside down.. You would think we would see models of alot bigger crisis..

I can't find any recent articles on this from a major US news source.

It's as if nobody wants to write about it.

Redeye, why do you care only about yourself. If you go back to work, and get affected, and pass it to someone who has a sick father or mother at home, and they die. You are responsible for there deaths, do you care.

If he doesn’t go back to work he will starve and die. Survival of the fittest

What type of economic ramifications are you interested in? Stock market and employment are going to be fine, so long as Trump does it right. If Trump continues to fuck it up, those things are not going to be good.

I would think the DJIA might be the best, as that takes into account all available information; and if anyone could come up with a model that makes better predictions about future economic conditions, they would become a billionaire. So maybe the best models going forward are going to come from guys like Bezos and Gates, as they were very clearly able to come up with the best economic models in the past.

If restaurants were to open tonight - there would be the same amount of people as last night there

Bars/clubs cannot be opened under any circumstance

Not much Trump can do - he ain't God and he doesn't have a magic wand

Agree with this.

Any model would be fine . Any model that would help people such as yourself to see the ramifications of shutting down the economy..

Agree with this.

+1

People have some rather rosy ideas as to what the economy is going to look like until a treatment and hopefully vaccine is out.

Better off getting used to the new normal, being frugal and planning for recession.

Feb 2020 ain't coming back anytime soon.

Might not be that bad but writing is on the wall that is how most should be thinking.

For that, I could just use my own economic situation, as measured by liquid assets. The changes that happened over the past five weeks should continue as long for as long as the "shut down" continues. Like so many Americans, my economics have been stable since the pandemic started and most likely will continue to be stable for as long as it lasts.

Not exactly what I'm looking for.

The economy has been shutdown.. I would like to see some models that show the economic ramifications and the devastation this will cause.. Not to much to ask to see what the new poverty rate could be , unemployment rate could be , how each sector of the economy will be affected. etc.. How the economic devastation will translate into suicides , depression , overall health affects from bad economic conditions..crime rate in long run has to go up with a bad economy. Just a sample..

This can't be good news for families correct ? I think we all have the Chinese virus models stamped on our foreheads for now.. Just want to see the other side of this..

That just brings us back to the first post I made. DJIA takes all available information into account, so that it the best model we have, and it can be further broken down by sector as well -- energy, finance, manufacturing, retail, technology, etc. So long as Trump handles everything correctly, poverty, unemployment, and crime will remain low, and health effects will be minimal. If he fucks things up, poverty, unemployment, and crime will go up, and health effects will be large. It doesn't have to be doom and gloom -- and it most likely will not be.

Set travel bans and restrictions where they apply to limiting the virus from spreading

I would have set a quarantine stay at home for older people and people with health issues.. that's the two groups that are significantly at risk.

If your sick stay home.. and away from others.

A health alert advisory

Everyone else carry on with their lives.. If you get sick or are coming down with identified symptoms , go home , see a doctor if needed.

been my take from the beginning..

Without the economic shutdown there would have been many more deaths. Why? Because many hospitals would have been overwhelmed & they wouldn't have been able to handle all the non COVID-19 emergency cases in addition to all the COVID-19 emergency cases. Then doctors, as in Italy, would have had to choose between who lives & who dies. Many thousands more would have died.

Without the shutdown many more would have become sick at the same time. That would have led to many businesses shutting down anyway. And many of their customers would have stayed at home, anyway, leading to even more business closures.

As things are going, there is much "herd immunity" already being built up. As many economies are now beginning to gradually open, or about to do so within the next few weeks, the "herd immunity" will slowly & properly be built up even more, so that hospitals & such are not overwhelmed.

Why is anyone saying “the young people can go back to work. Just leave the old and the sick at home.”

People making this claim STILL do not understand this particular virus. Crazy shit.

By saying that, you’re still admitting you don’t understand the specifics of this virus.

If it were that easy where we could have just let the young people still work. Then we would have already put that in motion.

It hasn’t happened because it isn’t really effective with what we are facing.

This is not swine flu. This is not the annual flu. You can’t just confine those people who have it. Or who are most susceptible and allow everyone else to do what they want.

It’s not going to work like that, unfortunately. If you understand the virus then you understand why it doesn’t work
