that's a good point kermit. To add, he was awesome a yr ago as a rookie with Team Sky, pulling in the mountains. There's a big difference between playing second fiddle and being The Man at a Grand Tour....we shall see.
Yes I agree Froome was better than Wiggins but of course he was doing his required duty. I’m just of the opinion that whether you give Thomas credit or someone else credit for being instrumental in Froome’s 4 wins, Thomas was there ! He was obviously the best rider in last year’s Tour and a very deserving Champion! That’s not my opinion of Wiggins !disagree. Froome was a beast . Sure he had a great team, but he could do it all. A special rider. As a reminder, Thomas crashed out of the tour de france in 2017. Froome didnt miss a beat, won easy. In 2012, Froome was the stronger rider but had to follow orders and let Wiggins win , he should have 5 titles .

just because a rider crashes out doesn’t mean “ He wasn’t there “ ! It’s part of the Tour ! I guess my opinion is “ Out There “ as you say but the fact remains Thomas was there ! I have been a Froome fan since day 1 and voiced my opinion during the Tour won by Wiggins. If you want to go back to my posts during that Tour, you will see I voiced my opinion during the race that Froome was the strongest rider. There is no question that Froome was a beast and I agree. However I firmly believe Thomas was the best Cyclist in last years Tour and earned his Title and Froome was, there !are you serious? Again, in 2017 Thomas crashed out early-- he was NOT THERE. Froome won, without him. Thomas was part of the team, but he was replaceable-- 2017 showed us that. Landa and Kwiatkowsky took on a greater roll in the mountains protecting Chris. Also, in 2013 it was Thomas' first year on Sky. It was Richie Porte that was Froome's right arm man.
look, i know you like Thomas, but to say ; 'Without him I don’t think Froome would have won 4 !', is , well, .....out there.
anyway, it IS FROOME who has been the key ingredient in this Team Sky 6 of 7 domination of The Tour de France. He helped Wiggins, helped Thomas and won 4 himself. He won titles DESPITE the loss of ; R Porte, Thomas , Landa.
it will be interesting to see if Sky can win WITHOUT Froome......Bernal, Thomas will answer that...
and in case you're not aware, Thomas did not participate in The Giro a yr ago, not surprisingly
Sorry but crashing out in stage 9 is NOT being a spectator !Thomas did deserve the title, a great rider.....but he is NO Froome, lol. And Froome didnt need Thomas to win a Tour de France. And who cares that he 'was there' in 2017, as a spectator? Team Sky won without him, he crashed early in the race. .....cmon , geez. I think Froome regrets riding in The Giro a yr ago. At that age ? He had delusions, perhaps thinking he had become superman and at an advanced cycling age to win both The Giro and Tour de France in the same yr. To his credit, he did win The Giro. But it likely cost him the Tour de France. He was spent. Opened the door for Thomas. BTW, Froome hadnt been in the Giro in the previous 6 years, insane to participate a yr ago. He has SIX career Grand Tour wins, sitting tied for 4th all-time.
anyway, lets see what tomorrow brings
Good thread. Very interesting to bet on stages. I looked into some sites before and it can get very technical and scientific. Very interesting.[/QUOTE
Yes the Tour can sometimes get very technical! GL if you’re planning on wagering on individual stages. Lance Armstrong won a Tour De France without winning even one stage. Strategy is key to winning the Tour.
