Both Damian Lillard and Jerami Grant have played well lately, and if Anfernee Simmons catches fire, the Hornets will be in trouble. Charlotte is winless in 14 consecutive road contests against Portland. Also, the Hornets have covered the spread just three times in their previous 11 meetings with the Trail Blazers.

The Celtics had been playing incredible basketball and came off a great west coast road trip. Then they proceeded to lose three straight at home to lesser teams and all of a sudden the question is not so absurd. But this is a tough spot for the Rockets as the Celtics have found their mojo again and they won't fall into the trap of taking anyone lightly at home. The Rockets just played Monday night in cold Chicago and had to head east to even colder Boston for Tuesday. This should be an easy Celtics win. Take Boston to cover the spread.

Dallas will beat Houston once more. However, I’m not sure the Mavs will be able to cover a double-digit spread. They’ll be a bit tired after that wild game against the Knicks, and the Mavericks are only 1-4 ATS in their last five home contests against the Rockets. Dallas has won four games in a row, and none of those victories has come by more than nine points.

The Jazz will look to take advantage of Sacramento’s 3-point defense. We should see a tight battle between a couple of bad defensive teams, and I’m backing the Kings to win and cover. Sacramento won’t take a ton of shots from downtown. The Kings will attack the rim and try to exploit Utah’s bad defensive rebounding. The Jazz are 28th in the league in defensive rebound percentage, whereas Sacramento paces the NBA in this category.

I am going to trust the New York Knicks on the road, as I see them breaking their losing streak in this game. I am also going to lay the points (-4.5), as they have shown that they can dominate on both ends of the court. New York is allowing the 13th least amount of points per game and the Rockets are only scoring the 27th most. Houston won't consistently make shots in this one and the Knicks will slowly pull away.

Altitude could be a problem for the Celtics. The power of Jokic against a Boston team that struggles abasing big men will how him to work and lead Denver to a. win. The Celtics are 0-5 against the spread in their last five games playing on two days rest. The Nuggets are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall.

The Heat aim for their third straight victory over the Clippers after a 115-110 win as 6.5-point home favorites on December 2, 2022. Miami is only 1-7 ATS in its last eight dates with LA, but I think the Heat will be able to keep this one close and cover a 5-point spread.
The Heat outscored the Clippers 58-32 in the paint in their previous encounter, but LA went 17-for-36 from downtown. I’m expecting to see more of the same and would be surprised by a big margin of victory, whoever comes on top. Four of Miami’s last five games have been decided by five or fewer points.

1k Golden State -2.5 (LOST)

The Warriors should get Andrew Wiggins back. Wiggins, who’s averaging 19.1 points per game on 45.0% shooting from deep, has missed 13 straight games due to a right adductor strain, and his presence would be a huge boost for the Warriors’ offense. It’s hard to trust the Hawks defense if Clint Capela remains sidelined, so I would take the Warriors to cover.

I’ve mentioned how good the Warriors have been on the home court lately. On the other side, the Hawks are 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS in their last ten showings on the road. The Hawks have also covered the spread in three of their past ten games overall.

I’m expecting the Hawks to bounce back and take full advantage of Sacramento’s struggling defense, so give me the visitors and points. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray will control the flow, while the Hawks’ defense will contain the Kings even if Clint Capela remains on the shelf. Young dropped 35 points on the Kings in their first meeting of the season, and I’m looking for another strong performance from a two-time All-Star.

1k Golden State -6.5 (LOST)
It’s hard to back the lowly Pistons, who would love to get the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. They just lost by 31 points at the Trail Blazers, so I’m going with the undermanned Warriors. Hopefully, the reigning champs won’t decide to rest Klay Thompson, who played 46 minutes last Monday.

It’s hard to predict the outcome when you don’t know if two of the Clippers’ best players suit up. LA has been pretty cautious with injuries so far this season, so I’m not expecting to see Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in the uniform. Denver beat LA 114-104 as a 4-point road favorite, and the Clippers missed both George and Kawhi. LA made 54.4% of its field goals but missed 15 of its 34 attempts from the foul line and forced a paltry six turnovers. The Clippers are 2-9 SU and 4-7 ATS in their last 11 meetings with the Nuggets.

Devin Booker’s absence is a huge blow, and if Cameron Payne doesn’t suit up, the Suns’ backcourt will be quite shorthanded in a tough matchup against the Heat. Miami has played very well lately, and Jimmy Butler will torture the Suns’ defense, so I’m going with the Heat to win. Both teams are capable of playing tough defense, and I’m expecting Miami’s superstar to make the difference on the offensive side of the ball.

1k Toronto -3.5 (LOST 108-112)
This feels like maybe its a turning point for the Raptors. They are not supposed to be this bad at 16-22 – they have just way too much talent to be 12th in the conference. But that moment they fell behind the road-weary, banged up Bucks by the score of 90-69, something may have finally clicked. They came storming back to send the game to overtime and then ultimately lost it into overtime. But even though it was a loss, it felt like something for the Raptors to rally behind and build upon. The Knicks come to town playing well, but at some point the Raptors need to start winning basketball games and it starts here. Take the Raptors here to cover.

If Paul George remains on the shelf, I’m going with the Hawks to cover. Over the last couple of years, George has had problems with a hamstring injury, and I’m expecting him to miss a few more games. The Clippers have been cautious with Kawhi Leonard all season, so the Hawks have a nice opportunity to keep it close and eventually pull off a straight-up victory. Both Atlanta and LA have struggled a lot lately, so I would be surprised if anyone wins comfortably. The Hawks are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six contests against the Western Conference, while the Clippers have only covered once in their previous five outings at any location.
