So you're canadian and you would rather live in the States... what that hell are you doing here?
It's actually harder for canadians to live in the usa than other immigrants. I can't just apply for a work visa (nevermind that I own a company, I am not an employee lol).
Their tourist visa for canadians is much stricter than CR, can only go for 6 months on, then I have to stay away for 6 months. If I break the rules I risk being banned for up to 10 years. I can't risk that because of all the real estate I own in the usa, and the amount of business I do there.
Partly the reason I live in CR is I don't know where else to live. It's an easy limbo.
I lived and worked in the States (legally just so you know) and finally decided to come back home and stay here. Too much shit to deal with me, I guess I'd rather deal with the potholes.
personally I would love to spend a year in Australia...so that I can do the tourist shit and then the not so touristic stuff in calm and taking my time.
the US states that I like (which are normally the least populated and pretty isolated but are normally very peaceful and beautiful) all have terrible winters.....I could put up with one or two......but not much more than that.
CR has spent a shitload in me (via education) so I am not going anywhere as in moving...I can put up with everything (potholes....traffic jams etc) ....but the thing that is truly getting out of hand is the crime. No matter how much money you throw at that problem ...you just can't get rid of it.
Well you're right, I suppose the judicial system creators never thought this country was gonna deal with all these foreigners escaping from poverty and violence in their own nations, our location in the middle of the continent makes us the perfect bridge for all the drug trafficking and the problems related to it. The system needs to fixed no doubt about that.

What amount of crime goes unreported in Costa Rica do you think? 10%-20%-30%-40%-more?
I have heard its 25%+ No idea if that is true.
Lets hope the green party is not reelected.

Most or all of nonviolent misdemanors such as stealing up to a certain amount, vandalism, grafitti, should be enforced much more stringently, with offers of inter city trash detail and probation over the current catch and release. Easy to implement, postive results, with both the shame factor and good PR.
