Mr. Vegas Free Thursday NBA pick 12/11:

Can't trust these (mostly) young Cavs on the road, especially against the healthy Thunder. The home team is 12-5 ATS in the last 17 meetings and the Cavaliers are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Oklahoma City.

Play the OKC Thunder.

(15) WINNIPEG JETS at (16) COLORADO AVALANCHE

Take: (15) WINNIPEG JETS +100

Winnipeg was a winner for me on Tuesday as the Jets rolled to a convincing 5-2 victory at Dallas. I’ll be right back on the same side tonight as the Jets journey to Denver to take on the Avalanche.

The Jets continue to be somewhat under the NHL radar, but this team is playing solid two-way hockey right now. Winnipeg is not blessed with much offensive flash, but they’re playing at a higher level than most observers might have anticipated. It doesn’t look like a fluke, either.

The first thing that’s noticed when viewing Jets games is that they don’t take many chances. Their modus operandi is to protect their own end. They basically only take chances when an opportunity presents itself. The formula is working very nicely, and I believe it will serve them well here against a Colorado entry that’s not the most disciplined outfit in the league.

The Jets, as was the case on Tuesday, have the advantages in most of the categories I give the most credence to. I particularly like the fact Winnipeg has been so good on the road penalty kill. Colorado’s home power play has not been especially productive, so the special teams advantage is pretty clearly with the visitors. Winnipeg also has the better overall 5×5 stats, and their road data is as good as Colorado’s home figures.

I always like to try and come back with a team I just won with if the circumstances and price are right. I believe that’s the case this evening, so it’s another call on the Jets to register the win at Colorado.

Comp NBA Pick for Thursday, December 11, 2014: 10:35 PM EST

(703) HOUSTON ROCKETS VS (704) SACRAMENTO KINGS

Take: UNDER THE TOTAL.

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Thursday, December 11, 2014 is in the NBA scheduled contest between the Houston Rockets and the Kings in Sacramento. Houston has really upgraded the defense this season, third in the NBA in field goal shooting defense allowing .426% shooting, plus tops at defending the three-pointer. Houston is on a 17-5 run under the total and the under is 12-4 in the Rockets last 16 vs. the Western Conference. Sacramento is 5-1 under the total against the Western Conference. The Kings are back to .500 after their seventh straight game without leading scorer and rebounder DeMarcus Cousins, who is out another week with viral meningitis. The under is 12-5-1 when the Kings face the Southwest division. The Kings are also 7-1 under the total at home against a team with a winning road record, so look for more defense than oddsmakers expect. Play Houston/Sacramento Under the total.

Calgary Flames vs. Buffalo Sabres

Bonus Play Buffalo Sabres +143

Buffalo is 5-1 in their last 6 home games and just beat the defending Stanley Cup champions LA Kings 1-0 on Tuesday. The Sabres have allowed just 7 goals in the last 6 home games as goalie Jhonas Enroth has been solid.

Calgary is 9-6 on the road but off a 4-1 loss at Toronto and lost 3-2 to San Jose at home. They did win their previous 4 games.

Buffalo started the season poorly and most power ratings have them at the bottom of the league as their offense does need work but there is plenty of value playing them at home on Thursday night at +143.

Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams

Bonus Play Under 40

After the Cards "pulled a rabbit out of their hat", they now have to travel to a hot divisional foe to bring a serious D to the table.

The Rams D has playmakers all over the field facing Shaun hill on a short work week. Plus on the turf, Tavon Austin is dangerous in the return game.

Cards are 10-3 but scaring no one. The Rams are 6-7 and inducing nightmares on upcoming offenses. 52-0, 24-0 two weeks in a row has this defense playing with something to prove. The Rams will not make the playoffs but their defense could still be given top honors. The Cardinals can also play that style of game and I don't expect as much as 52 or even 24 for that matter on the side of the Rams.

I do expect the Rams to get a 3 point win or more so the spread is also good if you're buying half a point to bring it down to -3. You can also grab a Same Game NFL 7 point teaser if your book allows it. Currently at -120, The Rams at +3.5 with the Under 47 is too hard to pass up. Let's stick with what pays well here and it's the under 40.

Arizona is tough to beat at home with a 7-0 record. In St. Louis, they'll come out flat. They haven't scored more than 18 points in their last 4 games. Don't expect anything more than 14-17 by Arizona and 17-23 for the Rams.

Grab that Under 40 while you can or buy a point to bring you back to this key number if it moves.
