RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 5 QUINTUS 3/1

# 2 BLUE VOYAGE 20/1

# 1 BEERS IN THE SKY 5/1

I have to consider QUINTUS here. This pick will feel the med change - with second time Lasix today. BLUE VOYAGE - Gomez has one of the top winning percentages in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. BEERS IN THE SKY - Will almost certainly go to the lead and should never look back. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in dirt route contests in this bunch.

Race 2 - Claiming - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $14300 Class Rating: 94

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NOT WON A RACE IN 2014. THREE YEAR OLDS, 121 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $10,000

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 7 SOUTHERN ROCKET 3/1

# 3 SIRTORI 6/1

# 5 MUY MAN 8/1

I think SOUTHERN ROCKET is a solid choice. Looks competitive to be up near the front end at the first call. Is hard not to look at based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been decent - 88 avg - of late. With a strong 88 average speed rating at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. SIRTORI - The average Equibase class figure alone makes this horse a solid choice. MUY MAN - It's a good sign that Turetsky is using Gomez on this horse. Gomez and Turetsky are a potent pair for profits.

Gulfstream West - Race #5 - Post: 3:09pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 66

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#4 MACUTO (ML=5/2)

MACUTO - The Oct 24th contest at Gulfstream West was at a class level of (71). Dropping to a lower class rank significantly, so he should be in a good spot to win. This horse didn't run well in the slop in his last race at Gulfstream West. You should overlook that performance. Last raced at Gulfstream West with a poor draw. I swiped some data from The Brain, and his computer says the inside should be a big help to this one today. This equine wins a lot of money per start. Tops in this affair.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 CUM LAUDE (ML=3/1), #5 LET IT BE FAMOUS (ML=4/1), #3 AMPLIFIED OTHER (ML=5/1),

CUM LAUDE - This gelding has had numerous attempts at Gulfstream West and still no victories. Notched a quite unimpressive rating in the last race in a $10,000 Maiden Claiming race on Oct 13th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that fig. LET IT BE FAMOUS - Common speed fig last time out at Gulfstream West at 6 furlongs. Don't believe this less than sharp equine will improve too much in today's race. AMPLIFIED OTHER - This gelding most likely won't be right there at the finish line.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

#4 MACUTO to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

Hawthorne - Race #6 - Post: 4:15pm - Optional Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $22,000 Class Rating: 94

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#6 VIVA BERTHA (ML=8/1)
#4 IT'S TAMARENO (ML=3/1)

VIVA BERTHA - This mare should get an idyllic trip in this spot. She looks like the only 'stalker' in this affair. Have to give this mare a shot. Ran a strong contest in the last race within the last thirty days. This horse has the class to win the race. A tactical ride by Emigh, and this one could bound home the winner. IT'S TAMARENO - Have to watch for this animal on the turf. Last race at Arlington, scored a big turf number. Have to think she can do it again in this field. This horse didn't run well on the soft turf in her last race at Arlington. You probably want to discount that performance.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 THE BEST OPTION (ML=4/1), #9 JAZZ BEAT (ML=9/2), #5 PISTOLS DRAWN (ML=5/1),

THE BEST OPTION - Hard to keep chasing this kind of 'bridesmaid' horse. JAZZ BEAT - This vulnerable equine showed very liitle last time out finishing fourth. Don't expect any change in today's event. PISTOLS DRAWN - M/L odds of 5/1 make this racer a pass by my criteria.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - VIVA BERTHA - Looks like Kirby has been trying to find the right class level for this horse. Took a big drop in class in last race, but returns to a similar class in this affair. A good sign she may win today.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

#6 VIVA BERTHA is going to be the play if we are getting 5/2 or better

#2 VOODOO TALES

DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: ONE DIRECTION

Spot Play: AMBLE OVER HANOVER

Race 1

(8) ONE DIRECTION was a going-away winner last week in the debut for new trainer Dustin Jones. (2) NAMESMUSCLE debuted for new connections last week and the result was a winning effort. (6) NUMBERS GAME looks like a logical option to include for the triactor.

Race 2

(6) OLYMPIC SON was a dominant winner last week and appears to be the horse to defeat to cap off tonight’s Early Double. (7) BAUDRON raced very well last week to finish second at 33-1 for trainer Riina Rekila. (4) WILLIAM STAR is lightly raced coming into tonight’s contest, which may benefit him over some of his rivals.

Race 3

(6) MUSCLES ALL OVER attempted to go gate-to-wire last week and came up a nose short. It was a gritty effort on the gelding’s behalf, especially with no respect from the betting public at 57-1. (1) DELCREST MASSY draws the rail in this second leg and will look for a much better effort after disappointing last week. (3) INSECRET received an inside trip last week and completed the triactor for trainer/driver Per Henriksen.

Race 4

(10) MITTCENT VAN GOGH will need to overcome the outside post 10, but he looks like the best horse in the race on paper. (3) VERO HANOVER went a tough trip in each of his last two starts as the Shadow Play son was parked the route and will look for a cleaner journey tonight. (6) GALAGHER SEELSTER likely will receive some attention in here with a terrific overall record coming into tonight’s contest.

Race 5

(7) E W FISHER will debut for new trainer Joe Cirasuola and will add Lasix to his program this evening. (2) INDIAN LAKE disappointed last week at a low price after racing very consistently in this class in prior weeks. (9) PROTEGE SEELSTER has just two wins this season from 28 starts, but was a looming threat in this class over the Mohawk meet and now into the Woodbine fall months.

Race 6

(9) SUGARSAM was a winner last week in the opening leg of the series for trainer Corey Johnson and driver Jody Jamieson. (7) WINDSONG LORD will need a big effort to make it to the final next week, but I think he’s capable of it. (2) CLASSY HILL draws inside, comes from the Alagna barn and was a winner two back.

Race 7

(8) ANTAR PHIL made a miscue last week at the start, but rebounded nicely to eventually make his way to the lead and settle for second. (7) HIS BOY ELROY raced very well last week for trainer Belliveau to finish second, only defeated by three-quarters of a length. (9) FRANKIES BOY comes from the O’Sullivan barn and the Artistic Fella colt finished a game third last week at 40-1.

Race 8

(8) ROBERT HILL has posted back-to-back wins, including last week in the opening round of the series. (1) HALTON HURRICANE was a winner last week in the first leg of the series for trainer/owner Robert Robinson. (6) MIDNIGHT PLAY was a game second last week after doing most of the work on the front end for trainer Bill Cass and driver Jonathan Drury.

Race 9

(9) OHO DIAMOND caught me by surprise last week with his 13-1 upset in the opening round of the series. (5) KAMIKAZE LINDY made his first career start last week and raced terrific in my opinion, considering he began from the outside post 10. (7) DIONYSUS LINDY has hit the board in three of his last four starts, including a second-place finish last week.

Race 10

(1) AMBLE OVER HANOVER offered a high price of 23-1 and likely will offer a fraction of that when the gates unfolds to start tonight’s Late Double. (9) HOPETOBEFIRST has been racing well at Ontario’s ‘B’ tracks and will now move back onto this circuit. (8) PINNACLE PEAK raced terrific last week for trainer/owner Floyd Amos and driver Roger Mayotte.

Race 11

(5) I C D MOOLAH has won this class in each of his last three starts and looks like the horse to beat. (1) ELECTRIFY looks like I C D Moolah’s main rival and begins from the rail. (6) VITAL SIGN has been a consistent threat in this class for many weeks and has a terrific overall record this season.

Yonkers: Thursday 10/30 Analysis
By Derick Giwner

DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 31 - 108 / $171.90 BEST BETS: 5 - 9 / $18.40

Best Bet: IT REALLY MATTERS (11th)

Spot Play: EXPENSIVE TOY (4th)

Race 1

(2) BRICKYARD NELLIE just missed at this level starting from the far outside. She gets post relief and should make the top easily. (6) DELICIOUSLYNAUGHTY has been racing well but can’t last in the final yards. (5) CAMPHOR HANOVER is very capable given a clean cover trip.

Race 2

(1) SUN OF A VICTORY finds a field without much early speed and he drew the rail. New acquisition for top trainer Rene Allard should prove tough. (7) COCOTIER kept his form for new connections last time and got claimed for the fifth straight start; obvious player. (6) TURTLE EXPRESS looks like an import with a chance if the trip works out.

Race 3

(5) MAGNUS DEO showed life in his second start for trainer Kevin Carr. This is a tight-knit group, but don’t be shocked if he finally wins his first race of the year. (4) AZOREANSAILOR is another coming off a decent effort for a new trainer; post relief. (8) SEA VENTURE is plenty sharp and might be able to overcome the poor post. (1) MOMMA’S ARTIST & (3) NOBLE’S GRAND SLAM have drawn well and have speed; worth using.

Race 4

(4) EXPENSIVE TOY was hung to dry in his first start for trainer Drolet. Making the top from this spot should be much easier. (5) LONG FIGHT HANOVER had a tough trip last time and second best in his prior start. (3) ROCKROCKWHOSTHERE drew three straight seven-holes here; post break.

Race 5

(3) ZINDERELLA comes off a win at this level and doesn’t exactly face the toughest group. (1) PERFECTLY ROYAL drew the best post and seems likely to fire out and protect her position. (4) GLAM CAM was a winner when last at Yonkers in this condition.

Race 6

(5) CAT CORA is the sharpest horse in the race by far. I don’t love her in this spot, but she looks like the one to beat. (1) IF I DIDN’T CARE finds a field without too much early zip and should come away well from the inside. (4) CASE SOLVED is as good as any of the others in this uninspiring field.

Race 7

(3) VELOCITY VESPA can leave away from the gate nicely and finds little to no speed to her inside. (1) VICTORIA MAY N has some class to her and finds the perfect spot tonight; must use. (4) MACHO CHICK drops down and gets a better post; good combination.

Race 8

(7) LITTLE MISS HENRY got on a roll in the Richard Banca barn and should keep her form for new trainer Carr. (3) ARIADNE HANOVER gets a better post to work with this time; dangerous. (2) SCOOTS WEST is another getting a more favorable starting slot.

Race 9

(1) CANACO STAR steps up a notch for new trainer PJ Fraley but should be aided by the post one draw. (5) SEA CRUISE HANOVER just missed last time. She can win from on or off the pace. (4) RD IOU overcame post seven at this level most recently.

Race 10

(6) SOCIAL SCENE hasn’t won since August but finds herself in a great spot this week. (3) KNOW IT ALL comes off a good effort; using. (1) PALM PATROL ships down from Woodbine and gets a great post to work with.

Race 11

(6) IT REALLY MATTERS has been firing on all cylinders and should have no issues making the front in this added distance race. (3) TAG UP AND GO comes off a good mile. (2) BLUEBIRD KIDSQUEEN raced a bit better last time.

Race 12

(5) ACE OF PACE picked up some confidence up at Vernon and has a solid history of success at Yonkers. (2) ROYAL KNOCKOUT gets the class and post relief daily double. (4) PARK N ORCHARD cloased well from post eight last time; moves inside.

At the Gate - Thursday
By Mike Dempsey

It has not been a good year for early contenders for the Breeders’ Cup as Magician joined the ranks of horses that will not make it to the big dance.

The defending champion of the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) becomes the fourth major contender to scratch. The colt will miss the Turf due to lameness according to his connections.

The four-year-old Galileo colt was severely lame in his right front leg when he came out to jog before heading to the track this morning according to a report at Bloodhorse.

It was just a day after trainer Bob Baffert announced that American Pharoah would miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Baffert said the colt had a deep bruise in his left front foot. The colt was the 2-1 morning line favorite.

Those two join Wise Dan and Beholder on the sidelines. Wise Dan was seeking his third win in the Breeders’ Cup Mile but is out with a minor injury and Beholder, winner of the 2012 Juvenile Fillies and 2013 Distaff spiked a fever and will miss her chance to repeat.

Also out now are Free as a Bird, who was being pointed toward the Turf Sprint (G1) and Handsome Mike, who was headed toward the Dirt Mile (G1).

In the meantime, we have the second day of the Aqueduct fall/winter meeting with the eight race card kicking off at 1:00 eastern today.

Here is today’s opening race from Aqueduct to get the day off to a good start:

AQU Race 1 Md Sp Wt (1:00 ET)
4 Gold Shield 5-2
5 Aldrin 4-1
1 Tradesman / 1a Frosted 2-1
6 Gunlock 5-1

Analysis: Gold Shield was not a threat in his debut but came back with a game effort on the stretch out last out at Belmont Park, beaten just a nose for the top spot while 6 1/4 lengths clear of the rest of the field in the outing. The colt was a $1 million Keeneland purchase, out of the stakes winner Dream Supreme ($1 million) who has dropped six winners including three stakes winners, top earner Majestic Warrior ($239,229).

Aldrin also moved forward nicely in his second career start after tiring to finish seventh in his debut. Last out the colt tracked the early pace, after getting bumped coming out of the gate, battled with a pair of foes around the far turn and gelding on gamely for the runner up spot. This guy was also a $1 million Keeneland purchase, out of the stakes winner Tap Your Heels ($47,275) who has dropped a pair of winners, top earner stakes winner Tapit ($557,300).

Wagering
WIN: #4 to win at 2-1 or better.
EX: 4,5 / 1,4,5,6
TRI: 4,5 / 1,4,5,6 / 1,3,4,5,6

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 7 OClm $62,500N2X (4:00 ET)
2 Voodoo Tales 2-1
7 Expression 4-1
6 Alwaysthinkinoyou 3-1
3 Making Havoc 6-1

Analysis: Voodoo Tales exits the state bred Punkin Pie where the filly tracked the early pace and finished evenly in a third place finish as the beaten favorite. She was making her first start off a three month break for the Esler barn. She was a good-looking Alw-1 winner two back at Belmont Park, drawing away to win by 6 3/4 lengths and earning a career top speed fig. She owns a solid pace profile throughout and figures to bounce back with a better effort here for a sharp outfit.

Expression set the early fractions and was caught inside the final furlong last out in a runner up finish at this condition last out in her first go off a seven-month layoff. She won at this level on the inner track at the Big A last December. She won't be on the lead here like she was last out but has shown she can win tacking a tracking role. She fires just about every time out, landing in the money in 14 of her 23 career starts and 3 out of 4 over the main track here at the Big A.

Wagering WIN: #2 to win at 9-5 or better.
EX: 2,7 / 2,3,6,7
TRI: 2,7 / 2,3,6,7 / 2,3,5,6,7

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Aqueduct
R4: #6 The Frood Dude 10-1
R4: #3 Bold Senator 8-1
R6: #5 Pure of Spirit 8-1
R8: #6 Americas Guest 12-1
Good luck today!
